  • I use Linux on everything and that finger print reader comment hit home. I have spent hours trying to get them to work. Just cant seem to.

  • Hope everyone is doing good.

  • Ok hear me out. We build things that look like houses and when they go in to sleep the floor falls out and a pneumatic tube system sends them to jail. It would only be around 300x as expensive as housing them would be.

  • Also a lot of people dont seem to know how to complement someone. Complements are good, but only if you do them right. They are best done small, and casual at first. "Did you get a haircut? I like it." "That (Article of clothing) looks great on you." "You're always so stylish." Once youve got a few dates under your belt and the mutual interest is clear you can move on to things that are a bit more intimate. "Your eyes are beautiful." "I love hearing you laugh." "I always look forward to spending time with you."

Notice nowhere in there did i put "Wow your so hot." or anything like that. Thats boring. Meaningless. Stuff like that is fine if your having sex, and want something to say in the heat of the moment, but if you are trying to win someone over emotionally be more interesting. Just the simple fact you are interested in them makes it obvious you think they are physically attractive. You don't need to hammer that point home over, and over again. Its fine to complement appearance, but have an angle. Actually notice things about the person.

Everything is situational. Complements especially, and they have multiple purposes. First of course is to express interest, and to make that person feel good about themselves. Most people understand that. But 2nd is to make it clear you are paying attention. Notice changes. Notice what doesnt change. If you like someone it shouldn't be hard to do. Do they look a bit tired today? Sure would be nice if you'd been paying attention, and knew what type of coffee they like so you can buy it for them. Its not a hard thing to ask in casual conversation. "I prefer peppermint tea personally, what about you?" Then remember their answer. Then when you know what they like buy it, give it to them, and say "I was getting myself a drink, and figured I'd pick one up for you too."

  • Do we need either type of sign? I mean this is lemmy we are all adults arent we? If you are interested in someone go up, greet them politely, ask how theyre doing, say "I was wondering if you'd want to grab lunch or something together, and get to know eachother?" after a bit of casual conversation. If they say no drop it. If they are interested even if busy theyll try to find time to do it. Nobody is that busy all the time. Or if they are they cant date anyway.

If they say yes go to lunch get to know eachother more, if you enjoy it and go out together again bring them a romantic gift of some kind to make sure you didnt miscommunicate about your intentions. Don't play games, and guess and wonder. Be direct, but polite, and respect their decisions. If you are afraid to get rejected you've got 2 options. Get over it, or die alone. Always trying to compute in your head what someone else is thinking is gonna drive you crazy. Just live life.

  • We have no evidence anything happens after you die. The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. If it makes you feel better to believe theres some afterlife waiting for you go for it. Just dont be a dick about it to other people. Keep it to yourself.

  • It does. If the masses decide something you said, did, made, etc is different than what you intended there isnt much you can do about it.

  • It does support english ya and even works outside China for navigation. It doesnt have all the same locations like resturants and stuff sometimes tho

  • Yeah thats why i mentioned them saying it was proof of christianity specifically. A lot of christians refuse to aknowledge other religions being equally valid (or more so tbh for the older ones.)

  • Someone told me one time they believe in specifically the christian god because the world is so perfect, and i was like what fucking world are you living in and how do i get there?

  • UTC+08 Id be having a great time with all of China to explore.

  • Amap - Chinese maps app - extremely common China W

  • I never used most of them. I quit reddit when genzedong went dark. Quit tiktok when the ads got more common a year ago or so. I still use a FOSS frontend to watch youtube videos does that count?

  • What i did for work stuff that needs windows is i got an old Thinkpad T440S and put windows on that and just use it for work. Things worth like 50$ lol.

  • My 73 year old grandmother also uses it and says its "minty fast" lol not sure what that means. She latched onto the name when she heard it.

  • If you have newer hardware mint isnt what you wanna use. It is more stability focused. There are other distros that arr more geared towards faster updates and supporting new stuff faster.

  • i avoid using flatpaks if i can. recently had to migrate mine from the root partition to home partition cuz they had filled my root partition space.

  • Ok so when you go to google.com first your computer connects to a DNS server. This server usually set by your ISP unless you changed it manually, has a list of URLs and their IPs.

Lets says google.com points to the IP 1.2.3.4.5 the DNS server sends you do that IP which is the actual IP of the host server for googles website.

If you just typed in google.com and had no DNS server your browser would get an error and display nothing.

When you run a site like hexbear.net you need to BUY a url to have point to your IP. This involves paying a monthly fee. If you dont pay it then it can be bought by someone else. And they can point the URL to a different IP.

This is what has happened. The Hexbear.net url wasnt paid for and is now up for auction. Whoever buys the URL can point it anywhere they want. But if the people who run the hexbear site want they can just get a new URL and point it to their server. Thats why chapo.chat still works.

  • I meant the gnome extension not firefox
