I'll say just one thing:
Every single one of you assholes who wouldn't shut up about him stepping down since the dude missed the toilet bowl fifty years ago after a particularly wild night out better sure as fuck step up now that Old Joe has stepped down.
A sitting god damned President of the United States has stepped aside less than half a year before reelection. Make no mistake: The man swallowed his pride and ego HARD to make this decision. Let's honor that by creating a wall of votes so god. damned. thick. Riley Reid would gasp.
People are scared. Most of the ones calling for Biden to drop out were just parroting popular opinion, with the rest uncertain where him actually dropping will take us. I think your feelings are valid here, though to give people some credit: At least we made the right choice. Immediately after the debate I wasn't sure if Joe dropping out was a good idea. After the Miss Heard Around the World I strongly felt he had no choice.
Time for Part whatever on this several part series, I guess. BOOTSTRAPS IT IS.
No. This is on the team, not just Biden. Being surrounded by people who won't tell you the actual truth would make most of us blind to real issues. As people on the left, as voters in general, we need to stop pointing fingers at a person and begin pointing fingers at the processes and issues that cause bad individuals to be placed in positions of authority, and the reasons why the teams behind even the good ones may not wish to speak out. This is systemic and mass recognition is the first step to a solution.
Falling completely into the hands of fascism, you say?
If you are all sick of this don't stop after we win the coming election, keep on pushing at every level. Take some devious, malicious pleasure in controlling our Government by staying united and rigging the elections by choosing a candidate together. Game the system with your pinky to your lips and with every new progressive and left-leaning politician put into power, swivel that chair and laugh.
Nothing, absolutely NOTHING, would scare the shit out of the trash-tier politicians more than us taking actual ownership.
With all respect to the lady, I highly doubt her husband was particularly keen on taking a bullet.
"But it was a bullet meant for our god-king!"
Yeah, and it missed. Hubby didn't even have time to yell "Get down, Mr. President!".
I know it's callous. However, we MUST be callous and unmoving right now. WE do not have the same room for pity and remorse as our politicians, whose jobs are to play that part. Unfortunately for the Right, we have a job to do.
I'll wash my hands 4.5 years from now when we all have some breathing room.
Reminder to tell EVERYONE to not only not listen to this, but to also put down the research pitchforks for a second and go all in Blue, regardless of the nominee. Don't stay quiet. Worst case you won't be able to speak safely this time next year.
I struggle to trust numbers nowadays. After being on Reddit for 11 years and now here on Lemmy, and around the Internet my entire life, lemme tell you about why people would self-identify as something else for a moment:
Because they are anonymous.
There are a huge amount of people who are on the Right on Lemmy trying to pass off as Blue, or blue-leaning.
I must be behind. I've been under the impression that pulling people in on a minor loss meant greater margins. Perhaps COVID had a significant adverse impact on that as well.
The literal entirety of the retail market across the planet has a concept called a "loss leader". You take a monetary hit on Product A with the expectation that people will come in for that AND by virtue of the service being readily available, also buy Product B, C, D, etc. I imagine, if done with minimal intrusiveness, Microsoft could easily do the same with Windows.
On paper as a concept it works. I'm not sure I'm savvy enough to understand the actual issues though.
Any document for doctors who will actually listen and not make incredibly fucking idiotic observations about completely irrelevant medical topics? Asking for at least half the population of women in the U.S. who have gone in with a legit problem and been verbally pushed aside and not listened to.
"When was your last period?"
"I came in to be prescribed anti-depressants. I have been officially diagnosed."
"Yes yes, but how is your uterus?"
"I am going to need anti-psychotics if you keep this up."
I believe that on the current course with no changes that the road to victory just got a lot more difficult.
Which I said.
In my post.
That you should read out loud to yourself.
With questionable situations like this I take into account two possibilities:
- "We shall do this thing unless a thing happens that convinced us not too!"
- Hail Hydra!
The party is fractured. The only thing the majority agrees on is not Trump. A true and popular figurehead can shore up the doubtful. Biden has a way out now, though from my perspective only one. I am hoping beyond hope there is someone smarter than me on their team with a brilliant counterplay.
I'll bet you actual money there will be shirts, shoes, hats, and bumper stickers of that moment.
Your mistake is using the usual logic. That flip only works to identify breaks in a logical way of thinking and serves to highlight how something might not make sense in reverse. Except instead of If A then B and if B maybe not A, we have:
If not fascist, vote Biden
vs
Trump.
He is the equation. No if-then statements, no maybes, nothing. Just the equation of Trump.
He is their god-king. If he says drink cyanide, a shocking percentage would do so. Because of the assassination attempt the timeline has shifted. It is no longer a race of one terrible choice and one middle-of-the-road choice, now especially it is about image and the charisma to represent a figure to the people who need to vote. Allow me to lay a short timeline:
Joe announces a second term. This was his chance to tell all of us that if he can't do it he will step down, for the good of all of us. This creates trust in a leader that understands what is important.
Trump confirms he will run. GOP immediately behind him while playing smoke and mirrors.
Fast forward through mostly normal months if you put aside all the court meetings with Trump at the head.
Joe challenges Trump to a debate. ALL OF US expect Trump to get destroyed. Despite his intelligence, old age is showing and Biden fumbles the ball. Honestly not badly in any other year, he just fumbled it next to one of the biggest imbeciles in recent history and because expectations were high, the fall went further.
However, this is a chance for Joe to recover. Apologize for his performance. Go full Dark Brandon. Explode out onto the news and talk shows. Hire Wendy's PR team and have then run his social media accounts. Admit he fucked up and then step up strongly and precisely. This is how you turn these situations around in your favor.
He continues to fumble and honestly? It isn't truly even his fault, until he admits that he is staying in to "do his best". Now the responsibility is 100% on his shoulders for everything, period. Before this he may have had wiggle room. Unfortunately, that is a statement of ownership. It was not popular.
Then Trump gets shot. Since it happened, best case was him not getting hit at all. Second best was the shooter finding success. Worst case scenario, well...see Trump holding a pose, blood running down the side of his face. Before this moment, Biden was unpopular, though still Biden. There remained ways to regain a foothold. Now even I, who supported him staying in, cannot find a reason for him to do so. He's lost the image game. A single bullet shifted the scale.
To win now it's on us to be the leaders. We all need to come out in numbers never before seen. Without our own figurehead, and there are people whose image could easily challenge and outstrip Trump's, we can now only rely on our collective desire to stop this evil. The problem is the people who can beat him don't want the job.
They would be heroes.
I just don't feel they'll step up.
You get it by coming together. The smart politicians, and the hungry ones, will back the measures if there is enough open and consistent popular support. Remember that it is about power. Political power starts and ends with numbers. Make it more valuable to some to support a change and they will become an ally.
However, this is done only through us coming together in unity, or under one or two strong leaders.
This isn't aimed specifically at you. I'm very likely guilty of this myself.
What you've said here highlights what I feel is the fundamental issue of unity for those on the left: We are all so damned certain we're the smartest in the room, to some extent anyway. We can box up and ship our opinions largely through the use of actual vocabulary. We can do real research. Many more of us have degrees, or are otherwise interested in some more academic form of hobbies, careers, and lend our strengths towards artistic approaches. Now this isn't universal and there are gigantic nodes of people who stand outside this generalization and yet still consider themselves not Republican, if not clearly left-leaning. There is at least a grain of truth for the majority.
It isn't that we bicker. We are so divided that each of the groups we belong to must, in their own way, be correct, or be offended. Just look at Biden: The majority on the Left call for equality and justice for individuals with barriers/disabilities. We yap on and on about their strengths and capacity to be incredible in so many ways. Then the instant Biden verbally fucks up we wholly ignore all the immense good he has done in favor of "Old man can't word properly!" and immediately draw lines.
What the fuck.
Yeah, that's a radical example and somewhat incorrectly used in the context of this discussion, and yet it does highlight why we get so fucked over so often. I've backed up and seen the whole forest for what it is and would really appreciate it if everyone else stopped attempting to cram their oversized heads into the nearest tree, all the while yelling about how their tree is somehow both wholly different and also the best tree. We're all in a fucking forest and Hexxus is torching the place. The problem is even those of us choosing the forest FOR the trees are at risk of being burned. All because the intelligent fools can't hear us yelling while their heads are shoved up an Ent's ass, blind in their false wisdom.
Gah, so angry.
The optimist in me was so hoping Trump would see the error of his ways after his life was tried and another made forfeit in his stead.
Motherfucker still talking about himself. God damnit. I had a hopeful moment, my bad. Back to Plan A: Big ballsy Biden's bountiful bouquet of blissful banter.
Which, I might add, is currently surrounded by the lackluster looming laughable languid leftist lobotomy of a circus performance, and I'm not only referring to the politicians. stares
Nah, Biden had a chance. They fucked it up by mismanaging his image, then even allowing the debate at all, and the last nail was ironically filled by the failed Trump assassination attempt. There were a lot of little things besides these, though in the last about eight months these are the big three imho.
