  • Sure.

Though something no one is mentioning is if he felt like he had to stay on to do the right thing, and made a very difficult decision to step down, part of this energy may be a relief we've all felt at one point or another.

I just can't shake the feeling that Biden never really wanted the job. He took it because he was convinced he was needed to oust Trump.

  • 100 people see dumb ad.

40 people click on dumb ad.

10 people play game from dumb ad.

5 people stick it out and continue playing.

1 of those 5 spends money.

Games that are p2w exist in a symbiotic relationship with people who are willing to spend copious amounts of money. The people who don't spend money and still exist within these games help fill in the environment. ALL players of these games are the problem.

Mobile games are the most common example of this, though other games fall under similar banners. The truth is any free game with live service needs money to operate. Hell, even that fan-run DBZ MMO has costs associated with it that the community helps fund. This won't go away, it'll just disguise itself as something else.

I do believe, however, that for larger games the bloated cost of development needs to fuck right off. 100mil and 5 years or more? There is a logistical issue there that needs to be addressed. One of many, I'm afraid.

  • I've been waiting for Taylor Swift to jump in. Unless there is something I don't know, she's rather strongly in favor of less bullshit and more support for people, and for positive lasting change. There is every ch...y'know what? Fuck it. Imma predict:

Swift is going to come onto social media demonizing Trump, tearing down this false endorsement, endorse Harris, AND make a personal request for her fans to get out and vote.

  • That little clicker in the brain that goes off when you've had enough doesn't really work for me. I have to feel physically full or I still feel hungry. Even worse, my dopamine levels are garbage and eating makes me feel good.

Not saying this doesn't work. Only that I'm far from the only one where it is this simple.

  • I'm holding a hope that Walz hasn't succumbed to the greed yet. Though I expect Harris has to some degree. Like it or not, there is enough money in politics that most of us could probably be bought eventually, to lesser and greater extents.

    The real question is "when?''.

  • Military leadership in the U.S. has always traditionally leaned pro-U.S. If it came down to it there would be fewer Trump allies the higher up you go. Exceptions though, always exceptions.

Trying really hard to not draw parallels with that scene in Winter Soldier where it's announced that some agents are Hydra while some are SHIELD and they turn on one another.

  • With some exceptions the answer is likely very simple:

They aren't denying climate change because they believe it isn't happening, that doesn't matter. They're denying it because they:

    1. Are among others who claim they deny and so they conform or become outcasts
    2. Dislike and fear change they don't understand on a fundamental level
    3. Fear challenging those beliefs because doing so risks admitting a regular part of their life has been lived in the wrong

Eventually these three things combine until denial becomes their natural state.

  • I got a NEW credit card faster than my bank was able to reissue and send me a replacement debit/credit. By like half the time.

I wasn't aware biometrics were more secure. My info is clearly out of date! Though I was also thinking of the forced unlocking of phones by, er...other people.

Police. I'm talking about the popo.

Good old Tasker should be able to handle the bulk of automating things like an auto-shutdown. Might still need to insert custom code BUT they have a community. A couple searches and verification that you're not being a dumbass and downloading something malicious and wham bam easy - or manually type it out. I dunno. Don't be big dumb.

    Tasker ain't obsolete yet, dammit!

Remember, folks! NONE OF THIS MATTERS IF YOU GIVE UP YOUR CREDENTIALS JUST CAUSE SOMEONE CALLED AND SAID GRANDMA WAS INJURED IN A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT.

  • To further protect yourself, you can also:

    1. Formally request that large transactions through your bank be done with you present, in person. Ask if you can set a limit and only if done in person also temporarily lift that limit.
    2. Obtain a credit card. Either you fight to get your money back when fraud hits, or they fight to get their money back. You can guess which team is better staffed. I was procrastinating for ages getting one myself. Then another fraudulent transaction hit. Despite having a fair amount of knowledge in this realm and doing a solid amount of research independently AND reporting it immediately, it still took days to get money actually placed back into my account. AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN with a brand new card within 30 days. Likely the shitty auto update service large organizations can subscribe to, or I got unlucky on a brute force attempt. Either way, a CC will save you this hassle.
    3. Bitwarden.
    4. Passwords only on your phone. No biometrics without a backup plan.
  • Look, Donnie, PTSD sucks. Unlike your cult, those of us working against you do want you to seek treatment. Like legitimately. We want you to get better.

But also like fuck off while you're doing that.

    Thaaanks.

    Signed,

    Everyone Else

  • I do this on purpose. Calm and rational people will attend calm and rational debates. I don't actually expect to receive rational responses in a thread like this. My only goal is to plant the potential for a rational response when the normal reaction is anger.

So if I had to choose one, I'll go with very stupid. :) I've been called worse by those who claim I am in support of the act of pedophillia, when I am in support of treatment of those who have not taken action, and against the label and stigma produced by our society which stops these individuals from coming forward.

As a culture we equate action and desire without action as the same thing in these circumstances. People then who might seek help do not for a very real fear of their life, potentially literally, ending.

I'll take very stupid in a semi-relevant thread if it helps even one person decide to seek treatment. Because that decision will stop harm for themselves, and importantly stop potential harm to a child in the future. Whether harm was maliciously intentioned or not.

  • I'm not asking nor defending that in any way. I am challenging the typical way people look at individuals who are attracted to minors. There are people out there who are ashamed and scared. They know it's wrong. They don't act, yet the impulse is there, and with it the anxiety. There is a stigma even against them, those who can find help in treatment, but are labeled right alongside those who commit atrocities and act on that desire.

It's anger. Rightfully so. Often displaced.

Paraphilia is considered a disorder for a reason. It can be treated, and it is important to make the distinction.

I will die on this hill.

  • Preface: I am not defending any action done, or the people that act on impulse or through desire.

If someone were to come to you and admit that they're ashamed they like children in a sexually gratifying way, and stated that they never intend to act on those thoughts. How would you react?

I'm expecting kneejerk reactions. Surprise me, Lemmy.
