  • On top of everything else, they don't actually produce pears.

Ugh, it's like people are against free food. I know fruit trees can make a mess, but why not plant fruitless trees over paved areas, and fruiting trees in parks and other wooded areas? It's also true that the fruit will attract so-called 'pests', but they would also attract more beneficial creatures as well...

We are so alienated from life in this country :(

  • The logging industry sucks. They log old growth and plant a single species in what was previously a diverse ecosystem. They spray poison to protect their saplings from competition, and among the poisoned dead are fruit plants which fed the local wildlife. All wildlife suffers as a result.

I met up with some loggers who took down a very old pine I used to walk past. They told me that it looked like it contained a lot of good wood, but after it fell they realized it wasn't so good after all. So they left it laying there, and their attitude was 'oh well.'

Adding to all this suckage, the industry takes trees from the land we all share and if they don't get exported to another country, they get processed and sold here for exorbitant prices. That wood could be used to build affordable housing but no, the rich have to get richer, even if it means shitting all over everything.

  • I'm sure there are plenty of people with the traits you listed out there for you. Unfortunately, they are probably shut-ins for the same reasons, so it would probably take some work to find them...

  • Imagine an industry ruining your homeland and family's way of life, and then government offering you a job in that same industry to keep you silent and obedient. It seems a lot of desperate people are applying for jobs anyway, but what does that do to one's psyche?

  • Irfanview for image viewing.

Finally somebody mentions this. It's lightweight & loads quickly; is highly customizable and can do a number of image edits like cropping, filters, resize with various resampling methods; it can save to a bunch of different formats; etc. It's always been one of the first things I install.

  • I have lots to say, but I won't.

The best bet is do plenty of research and read trip reports. And don't stop reading until you've heard about poor metabolizers and Olney's Lesions (which might not be an issue, but evidently is for other dissos.) And then read some more :) Then you can make a somewhat informed decision about it...

  • Thanks a lot for the recommendations! Lots of interesting things here, and I'll be diving in very soon.

Mohamed Shawky goes by 'chusss' on YouTube. here's one I like: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h-x0x41dsfM

Yeah, I've heard of Nightwish. Not my favorite, but last time I went looking I was trying to find pieces closer to Epica's Omega album... and not even Epica's older work was what I was looking for...

  • At least they provided this tidbit:

Engineers also discovered, as they plowed past the first 14,800 feet (4,511 meters), that the rock had much more porosity and permeability. That, paired with the extremely high temperatures, made the rock behave more like a plastic than a solid, rendering drilling virtually impossible.

    Plastic Earth confirmed.

  • Just going to point out that alcohol is literally a poison people drink to make them feel good.

It starts that way, but quickly turns on you. Pretty soon you're pissed at everything for no good reason, you're tired but have enough energy for angry outbursts, and your world just shrinks and shrinks along with your brain. Horrible drug. Maybe some people can handle having a drink regularly, but I sure can't ':S

Anyway yeah, getting caught up in politics can be similar.

  • I do like symphonic metal, and that's a great song... it gave me goosebumps. I'll be sure to check out more of Blind Guardian's work. Any other suggestions are welcome! Maybe stuff similar to Epica's Omega album, and instrumental pieces similar to Essence of Datum, Mohamed Shawky, Rivers of Nihil, & Naxatras, if you've got the time :D

  • The Ys series OSTs, especially the PSP titles. Nice mix of metal and violin.

Hollow Night. The City of Tears track in particular.

Any covers made by Orchestral Fantasy on YouTube. He focuses mainly on classic 16-bit titles and pretty much nails each one.

  • Eh, I think it's impossible to accurately judge a person's entire intelligence, whether it be by the comments they make online or by their behavior irl. To me, 'idiot' is a bad word, worse than most.

That said, it does seem like people are too quick to believe the lies spouted by politicians. I suppose they will continue to believe them until said politicians' policies affect them in a negative way (e.g. suddenly finding themselves homeless, which is a reality for more and more people these days).

  • You're right, and it's horrifying that it continues. I guess I was just voicing a wish that it would end soon.

I also don't trust either party to fix any of these things. It's a sly game their playing, and sadly it's still working -_-
