  • Can't add railing to every steep area. Jk, of course we can, we've got the resources :D

It's a sad story though, how he let go once he knew he was risking his wife's life by continuing to hold onto her. That final look of goodbye which probably took place, and the letting go.

  • Hard science fiction: Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. What would terraforming Mars be like?

Video games: the three Castlevania games for Gameboy Advance, and the three for Nindendo DS. Not trilogies per se, but they came in threes :)

  • Thanks for the detailed info. It would be awesome if the CEOs and shareholders took a pay hit, so they could keep work here and pay them more to boot. (I haven't run any numbers to see if it would even make a big enough difference.)

I didn't know the CHIPS act was having trouble. Last new I heard was that US workers supposedly didn't have sufficient work ethic, or something. Iirc, it sounded like they didn't want to be worked to death...

  • Beelzalel Smotrich, ugh. I can't fathom the mindset required to keep supporting Israel as it travels this path.

I wish more people would realize that what those in power do to the most disadvantaged among us, they will eventually do to the rest us, should we get in their way.

  • I just did a quick search, and found this:

Concurrent use of stimulants with antidepressants is a high-risk behavior and is medically contraindicated due to potential cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzyme inhibition and a resulting increase in serotonin levels.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4309786/

So it was the common culprits, the P450 enzymes. I'm lucky to have not given myself serotonin syndrome many times.

  • One could do some photogrammetry and then analyze the 3d mesh. It only requires taking multiple photos from different angles. Might even be able to get something going from online photos, provided you match the time of day for the entire set...

  • Governments worldwide will do anything to preserve their hegemony, except make living more tolerable.

Any potential movement against government overreach needs to counter every tactic they use. This means: communicating away from prying eyes and ears; using custom-made encryption when communicating remotely; full vetting of members, lest the movement be weakened; having a cell-based structure; knowing all the psychological tricks the govt. uses; etc.

(I can say these things freely because I am not a part of any movement ;) Additionally, I am not advocating violence.)

  • A funny thing I found out about dwelling on negative emotions like fear and guilt is that it never helped me become a better person. Quite the opposite. Only by facing my issues head-on and forgiving myself if/when I screw up do I actually make progress. (Some religions would have us look 'outside' ourselves for forgiveness, but that always places our spiritual wellbeing on some unknowable other.)

  • The US will probably want another land base in the general area. Megiddo, for instance, might be a strategic location. Of course, the people living there would need extra defensive capabilities. But to get public support, the initiative will need a name... perhaps something like 'Arm Megiddo'. /j

On a more serious note, this could easily get very bad very quickly, and not just 'over there'. We trust our governments to make decisions that keep us safe, but once they stop doing that they invite total destabilization from within. If the mainland gets attacked, all hell could break loose here...

  • I've got one, if dreams count.

Twenty years ago I had a series of dreams in which I was told about the design and usage of Mind Control Technology. The tech worked like this: two microwave/radio signals were sent out, one directly to a receiver, and another passing through a brain and then to a receiver. By subtracting the unaltered signal from the one altered by a brain, a sort of 'map' could be derived. That map was then analyzed to find key areas of interest. Then, using patterns saved from that, a new microwave signal containing said patterns was sent out to the subject, the result being total control over their mind and actions.

I was first showed how it worked on a cat. They would make the cat playful, sedate, or mean and angry.

In another dream, I was just doing my own thing in a city. I passed by these strange, clear globes on street corners. There were also suspicious white vans driving around. Suddenly, the globes and vans emitted signals, and everyone just lost their minds, killing each other with whatever they had on hand! After a while of this, the survivors woke up, covered in blood and not knowing what had just taken place. I was somehow immune, possibly because I knew the mind control tech existed.

Other dreams were along the same lines: signals going out, people going crazy and waking back up later, and me unaffected by it.

Come to find out later that there's a bit of truth to the initial dream. A man named José Delgado ran mind control experiments with animals (including cats!) using direct brain stimulation. And then there's this patent, which was a shocker when I found it: Apparatus and method for remotely monitoring and altering brain waves

Do I believe all this is true and happening right now? Let's just say I think it might be possible. To this day, whenever I hear abour a guy losing his mind and going on a killing spree, I wonder...

  • Hopefully any new site keeps the high standards romhacking dot net upheld; it's way too easy to make a hack that unintentionally breaks other things in a game.

Regarding Discord, its un-openness to the 'net at large is definitely a prominent issue. But another problem (based on my limited experience) is that its people just aren't very friendly. It's like a large portion of them are annoyed at having to interact with other people. I don't know why that is or even if it's true, but that's the feeling I got from it.
