  • Again, are you respecting someone's identity? I don't care what you think you're doing; if you aren't recognizing a person as the person they are, then the conclusion is that you're mistreating someone. The world isn't a place where your self perceptions overwrite the person you actually are.

  • There are plenty of respectful debates about trans issues, and tolerance of people genuinely not understanding queer topics. What cannot be debated respectfully is whatever or not to respect a person"s identity. No amount of polite language can make such a conversation respectful, as you're refusing to do the bare minimum required to speak to that person as an equal.

Creating a tolerant space requires not tolerating intolerance. This is not an authoritarian insight, but one centered on maximizing the freedom of everyone. If you demand a space where you can debate a basic fact about myself, then that is not a space in which I am free.

  • unless it's the guy who has made the movement reliant on him, you're wasting your time. you'd be better off with the wealthy elites who hold the most responsibility for this mess; and I'm not only talking about those who supported Trump.

  • When the night of long knives happens against the rebellious Republican senators, judges, or billionaires that try to be big men, then people will know why I insist that Trump is different. Until his heart stops beating, things will only continue to get worse for everyone.

  • They want to maintain the independent power of the courts, but none can have power except Trump.

  • Most people make fun of France because of dumb reasons like that. I make fun of France for their evil imperialism that gets too often overlooked in America.

But in all seriousness, the only thing we could do to stop this current mess is behead the king, and the US military is more than capable of destroying any large scale effort. I think targeting nobility could be a decent alternative, but I'm physically incapable personally.

  • They're making it unlivable for themselves, but instead of fixing the problem, they're just making things as bad as possible for the scapegoats.

  • You are not having this conversation in good faith. You're taking a very closed-minded perspective to someone saying "killing thousands of children is bad" AND "not enough was even done to save the hostages." I've met people like you in real life, and I suspect the pain of admitting that you're even slightly in the wrong about a country you value must really hurt, but it does not make genocide apologia ok. I've accepted my own country sucks, so you can make peace with a place like Israel too.

Also, if "discussion" like this is what this comm tolerates, I sure as hell don't want to be a part of the conversations here.

  • Not really. Plenty of upper class conservatives who read both quite well and not well enough.

  • there are people here who believe the english language doesn't only deserve zero respect, it deserves active disrespect. I personally use proper punctuation and grammar when trying to be authoritative, but i also think getting upset about people not following arbitrary formalities is pointless in this context. no capital is involved; no laws either. so long as i am understood, who fucking cares?

if that's not an energy you can get comfortable with, then i really doubt this'll be the only problem you have with lemmy's culture

  • Like other successful fascists, his skill is having his finger on the pulse of his supportive factions. The capitalists are less to him important than the rabid foot soldiers, but he still doesn't want them to see him as weak.

  • Nah, this isn't uncharacteristic for neoliberalism. Siding with fascists for imperialist reasons is the neolib way, and the Brits traditionally use a less restrained hand when censoring speech.

Even in the US, with our near free speech absolution, neolibs were supportive as cops cracked down hard on peaceful civil disobedience. If that's what American liberals were willing to do when bought by Israeli lobbyists, this makes perfect sense for the British version of the Democratic party. They'll be replaced by the proper fascists come next election anyhow.

  • Only influence as someone accomplishing only what Trump wants. He was only listened to when his goals fully aligned with Trump's. Such henchmen only have the illusion of influence, as they have no real freedom to act on their own.

It's a perfect example of the illusion of control Trump sells to the rich; they will only benefit by playing along, and will not get anywhere if they don't. He really doesn't need to listen to them, as they have no real power to wield over him.

Unlike under the liberal system where they could do any number of things to undermine politicians' power because politicians were bound to the ballot box, Trump effectively isn't anymore. He might legit die before his term is up, and is capable of thoroughly corrupting the system enough to remain in power without elections if he does. He is redesigning the government to not need congress or the judiciary, meaning nobody will really be able to stop him within the system.

Violent methods become the only option, and there is no shot the wealthy libs will actually be brave enough to act out. Most will just ride the grift until Trump dies, knowing full well they'll face little accountability for sponsoring death camps.

  • I'm honestly impressed by how many I see. It's probably just such an eyesore that I notice every one the enters my fov without fail. I always give those death machine a wide berth, as not only is the vehicle itself deadly, I don't trust the drivers in the slightest.

  • It is, but the bubble mustn't burst or the grifters will stop making money selling "the end of skilled labor" to braindead capitalists.

  • Musk never had a shot and never had any influence. He was never a shadow king, just a dog to be put down if it disobeyed

  • More like "Elong outlived his meger usefulness and Trump booted him like he always meant to." Trump has long disliked Elonga, and as soon as Elongat showed any signs of acting independently, he was doomed. He was kicked out for the same reason McCarthy was replaced by a nobody like Johnson, the same reason a weakling like Pence was needed for VP. There's just no room on it for anybody with independent power; only the king can sail.

The ship is far from sinking, and not recognizing that we're stuck with Trump until he dies is wishful thinking.
