While playing Final Fantasy X the first time, I got to Old Zanarkand and inside the dome, I saved behind a sealed door in the Cloister of Trials. I wasn't savvy to good saving practices and after solving the puzzle, got into a battle I was completely hopeless to defeat. There was no way to walk back out the door from which I entered, the only way out was through; and with my existing inventory, spells, charged up aeons, etc. I absolutely could not defeat the boss.

It was pretty crushing because this moment is so close to the end of the game, but I gave up and had to come back months (years?) later to fully start the game over. I think maybe I played 99+ hours of Final Fantasy VII and then decided to give X another try. The second time, I was much smarter with maintaining multiple save games for safety. Not to be bested again, I grinded up all of my limit breaks and aeons for safety and completely obliterated the boss in one go the next time around.

The RIF app developer now has an app for Tildes called Three Cheers, but I find Lemmy way more comfortable to use, and of course it's not in beta so there is an actual audience (if small compared to R*ddit). I've got it installed and requested access to Tildes when the news about API access came out, so I guess I'll be ready if it ever takes off. Still worth a look imo, if only for Three Cheers. Sync for Lemmy is excellent as well and so far is my go to.

Oh yeah also all arcade games with prizes are rigged. All of them. We literally have a setting that determines how often the game will allow wins.

One time on vacation, my little sister and I found a crane game in the game room of our hotel that was clearly over tuned - basically every button press was another win, it was great. We still remember it fondly. A stupid thing, but even at that age we knew these are usually scams and we we're stoked to just basically get cheap toys.

I literally only get Marvel Snap/general gaming, College Humor, tech, educational, stand up comedy, and drones. That's it. I don't mean to victim blame, but it learns what you click and what you stay to watch.

I don't know how the process worked exactly, but Nvidia had to payout $30 per card for the false advertising on the GTX 970. (In my head, I totally remember getting $100 per card for each mine and my wife's, but the internet says it was $30. 🤷)

Controversial take - sometimes you've just got to adapt to the times. I'll never forgive everyone for removing SD expansion in phones, because there's absolutely no replacement except "buy our expensive cloud storage and own nothing ever!" or "spend SIGNIFICANTLY MORE THAN THE ACTUAL COST OF FLASH STORAGE to increase your onboard storage!" which are both unacceptable. But wireless headphones are perfectly acceptable. If I want an audiophile experience, I'm absolutely not using my phone anyways.

For that to be true, it would have needed to be worth $44B in the first place, which it absolutely was not. But there is no doubt that his mismanagement has tanked the value of the investment. He's a narcissist so never see it that way, but the whole rest of the world knows that.

For me it's Starbucks and Chipotle - they both discontinued the best thing on their menu, chorizo. I've had other things I liked at both restaurants, but I'm not going to waste my money with either for what they've done.

I remember being amazed when I hit 100 hours in Final Fantasy VII, thinking that a game could never match it. Then I put 12,000 hours into World of Warcraft over about 12 years, so I guess I lacked imagination. I don't think in the rest of my life I will ever be able to beat that with a single game.

The perception of lost productivity, whether true or false, would be the opposition. I'm sure with a lot of specific jobs, productivity is highly maximized even at 40 hours. And in customer service positions, you might still need coverage 16 hours a day 7 days a week. So ultimately if your whole team of 12 works 8 fewer hours a week each, they'll need to hire 3 more people to cover the lost time. If nobody's weekly pay amount changed, now suddenly your labor costs have risen 25%.

What you're describing is "part time" and companies LOVE part timers. Lower pay, no benefits. What people actually want is full time, but full time means 4 day work weeks. Around Europe there have been tests where everyone maintains their salary but works 4 days instead of 5. The workers are better rested and more productive so even despite less time worked per week, the net work output does not decrease.

Sure it works better, and yet if I have my TV control in my hand I'd prefer to just use that, over my phone. Voice dictation is spotty in general, and the assistant button never behaves how I expect. Why break a perfectly working solution? 🤦

I thought this whole "object behind paper against a mirror" thing was just a meme at first because the result is very intuitive and not at all shocking... But then I guess people genuinely didn't get it? People really can be so stupid.
