  • Same same. I moved to Firefox for Android back then and use ublock to hide their nags forcing you to use their app. And of course the ads they were trying to shove down our throats by killing third party apps. It's still a great repository of knowledge that I'll search via Google, but otherwise I browse for fun here.

  • Ignoring all the other obvious issues... How would this even work if these gestapo fuckers are rounding people up at Home Depot and court houses and routine traffic stops? These farms will just continue to bleed legal and undocumented migrants, regardless of whether they're directly raiding a farm.

  • Solid Explorer has always been my go to. I never understood why basic file explorer functions essentially required the use of a separate app, but it's functionality is superb and the now-baked-in-but-terrible file explorer in android can never hope to match it.

  • Of course I believe in freedom of speech, but Marco and the Felon-in-Chief CERTAINLY do not, so this is clearly a smoke screen. And frankly, I suspect that any previous examples of this happening are in the interest in basic human decency. The fact of the matter is that American businesses doing business internationally have to be held accountable for the laws of the countries they are operating in as well, so this all sounds completely ridiculous.

  • World News @lemmy.world

  • And your pc is connected by fiber directly to the modem? It sounds like not, which was the point of of the parent comment. But you can't tell me that you think this is a normal and typical use case, to install PCI-E fiber optic network card.

  • I don't think "most" have fiber to the home, first of all. Cable companies in the US do multigig speeds via fiber to a relay and coax cable to the home. Fiber is great when it's underground or in a data center and safe, but it is delicate and easy to break the cables so not a great home solution. Fiber terminations are difficult and more expensive. The power efficiency payoff on a 1m cable from your router to your pc is probably going to be measured decades, more if you factor in the higher cost of the cable.

  • If they're already working a full time job and just need the little extra money to get buy something nice for themselves, the pay is kinda irrelevant. Far simpler than on-boarding for a part time job you'll only need for 3 weeks.

  • It actually wasn't a joke. I went from SGN20U back to a Pixel for a few years, before getting my current Fold6. My prior experience with Samsung was that you could not disable updates and you couldn't even delay updates because it'll only let you snooze it for a day or two before it forces the update down your throat no matter what. Had it happen once while I was driving in unfamiliar territory and lost navigation for 15 minutes. Had it happen overnight once and my alarm didn't go off in the morning. Infuriating.

I did go ahead and turn off auto download just now - if it actually works without constant nagging, I'll be thrilled. Cheers.
