I get your point but you're also kinda arguing in bad faith. I don't think anyone will dispute the noise to quality ratios, but you're misrepresenting the point of the original post while simultaneously proving it. The barrier to information is almost non-existent in the modern age, making the pursuit of those fancies plausible.

If I want to know the history of the band Smash mouth I can look that up in literal seconds. Or if I want to know how to bake a souffle. Or if I want to find schematics for an exhaust fan.

Travel back to the 90s. Pick any subject. Step 1 to learning more about that subject involves travel and the juice is suddenly no longer worth the squeeze.

I love books as much as the next guy, but let's not pretend that they are even remotely comparable to the Internet in regards to information access. My family had an Encyclopedia Britannica, they were great for summary on certain subjects but they were far from exhaustive.

Honestly it's hard to even get in the mood. Everything related to the 4th this year feels like satire.

This doesn't really address the whole of OP's question though. They are asking why our schools are so underfunded if we are spending so much more than average per student. The maths don't math.

The are encouraging you and all other non-Americans to not fall asleep at the wheel like we have. The system that allowed this shit show to develop has been building for decades and we allowed it to happen.

Do not allow it to happen where you live, because the oligarchy is coming for you too.

I have been doing everything reasonably possible to prevent and unfuck my local situation in Texas, but the state as a whole is absolutely screwed. I would argue that a very large minority is aggressively uninformed politically, and has no desire to educate themselves. They want to be sucked into the gravity well of their bigotry and hate and Christian window-dressing. It's disgusting and depressing and you would not believe the amount of people that I respected before all of this mess that I want nothing to do with anymore because of the ideologies they are willing to espouse. I barely interact with any of my family any more because most of them wanted this situation and still won't openly admit that they did this.

I feel completely powerless and like my only option is to run as far away from the place I have called home for my entire life.
