  • That's what I use Twitter for too but what intrudes my feed is mostly memes and cat videos. While it may be true my experience however isn't that they're pushing right wing content to everyone because I'm not seeing it.

  • I don't remember which creator said it but basically by donating them even one dollar they're profiting more than if you sit thru hours and hours of ads. I guess objectively one can claim the moral high ground by watching ads but that really is like tossing bread crumbs to a beggar.

I'd really like platform like YouTube to come up with a subscribtion model that you pay like $10/month of which 20% goes to YouTube and the rest is split between the creators of which videos you have been watching. Even better if there's a way to prioritize the ones that you really want to give your support to.

  • I can list a ton of products I by principle will never use. Athelic greens, casper mattresses, simplisafe, express/nordVPN, Honey ... Some people may see a pattern there.

Ironically I might actually buy your product even if you spam annoying ads as long as you do it on a platform I block ads on.

  • I don't have premium and I don't see shorts either. I'm not sure if some of my addons is blocking those or I just clicked "not interested" enough many times.

EDIT: Yeah. Enhancer for YouTube blocks them

  • EDIT: Here's an explanation I saw earlier of how it's done in Finland:

How we do it here in Finland is that there are digital identity providers which use bank/mobile carrier to identify you. They then use MFA when identifying you. Any service can use these services to do strong authentication for you. And they don’t cost anything for the customer, and is really cheap for the company who wants to identify you. It is also build into the law that you must identify people using these, to avoid identity theft.

  • I believe this is only for users that want the blue tick in which case it sort of makes sense that to be "verified" means they infact have verified that you are who you claim to be.

Requiring a picture of you ID seems very 2005 though

  • I really hope car manufacturers would start making really cheap and basic versions of their cars. Modern cars are filled to the brim with features I could easily live without and don't want to pay extra for.

All I really need is electric windows in the front, heated seats, power steering, ABS/traction control, AC, cruise control, radio with USB and bluetooth, heated rear glass and mirros and that's pretty much it. Reverse camera is nice but not mandatory. The last thing I want for my car is internet access. Abso-fucking-lutely not.

  • Yeah I don't know who they ask to do this but I've been on Twitter since 2014 and they've never shown me this and if they mandated it I'd leave even though they already have my phone number and know who I'm.
