  • Check, the American dream of 1-2% is the American nightmare for more then 75%. (And probably just a disappointment for the rest)

  • I half agree, internet is important to have access to all views available. The problem now is that it's profitable to keep people in their own bubble as most are to lazy to look at more then 1-2 sources for their info and loads limit themselves to corporation (facebook for one) or government regulated sources (freely in the US or by force in Russia and China).

A lot of people are dissuaded to think for themselves, which is killing for a source with this much info of which a lot is garbage. Internet went downhill when the commoners were given access and thus the corporation found a new place to fleece money from them. (and yes, this could be considered as a garbage opinion as well ;) )

  • I'm thinking all current issues will boil down to 1 major issue, to many humans on to little space. The human race is still growing in numbers while the livable space on earth is diminishing fast (even simply ignoring the dwindling clean fresh water supply and options to grow food). Either we need to stop the growth or get off this rock.

As loads of humans still think that nature doesn't include them and they are not part of the diminishing biodiversity, it doesn't look good for the foreseeable future. Maybe in a few centuries when we're either down to 1-2 billion (or less) or have spread out into the universe.

  • Looks familiar. We already have the same issue in The Netherlands (Hi neighbour).

1st time buyers can't get a house as they are to expensive, current owners can't move on as they 1st need to sell before they can buy something (and hope that the selling prize covers the mortgage costs), social letting (entry level) has an issue with availability of houses and most others for the letting market are in the unregulated market and those houses are being sold off as the letting out of houses in that market is being regulated so much that it's not economical anymore.

On top of that, it's to expensive to build new houses and the country is already needs 1m houses in the next few years. Due to this the right wing is hammering on stopping refugees entering the country when they are about 5% of the immigration issue. (expats are the other 95%)

  • Check, lemmy.world is having issues with attacks as they are the largest and they are finding size related issues in the software before anybody else due to the same reason.

  • And you being way to late to buy food for your animals is their problem so they should stay open? When you're this close to letting your animals starve, you're very bad at planning your shopping.

We have at least 1 week of food to spare (for both us and the animals) when we go out for the next batch, as we know that sometimes the stock at shops is low, we can't get out shopping the day we want or won't have it delivered on the day we want. Just in time is a bad method of getting food. (or to be honest anything, as you rely on nothing going wrong and Murphy is always awake ;) )

  • What are the rights of the directories? (dkim and postfix directory)

I see only r for group, not other, so I'm expecting /etc/postfix to be 750 as well for group postfix. (is opendkim user member of that group?) You need 751 (x for other on dir) to be able to get to directories in that directory.

  • Not only if you can monetize it or not (I always had the mode 'when I can afford to live the life I have, I have enough'), but if you have your peace and quiet now or not. For some the American dream (work hard, get rich and famous) is great, for most (including those that work themselves to near death to be able to eat) not so great. (or even a nightmare)

Personally I'd rather have a legacy then be famous. (or just be left alone with my wife, pets and hobbies)

  • Nah, with how it goes in the world it's more a horror movie now instead of comedy.

It is almost as if humanity decided to see the movie as a challenge instead of a warning (or just plain entertainment, what it was meant to be).

  • Thanks, it was already a mess to figure out without systemd 'defaults' barging trough my settings. Maybe I;ll keep my personal setup as it is and only let systemd dat the interface names of the 2 physical interfaces and have the dependencies of services linked to the virtual device states. As long as I can ditch NetworkManager at work I'm totally happy.

  • Oh yeah, that definitely should be the case why it is not working for me, I am using the GitHub version which is 2.1.1…

On 11 and later that could be the case indeed.

But I think now I’m confused did you actually manage to get rid of the Sync ads blocks? Or you have the block with the “empty” ads?

The ads is gone, but the block is still there with only the text "Sponsored content" in it.

In the Lsposed app within the MinMinGuard section you have selected Sync for Lemmy there too or only within the MinMinGuard settings?

I've selected every app in the MinMinguard section in LSposed. That is where you specify for which app LSposed should activate the module. In the MinMinGuard settings (open the app itself) I selected whitelist as mode (block everywhere except where specified) and I whitelisted 2 games, so they can run ads for in-game goodies and the rest get their ads blocked.

I am a bit lost in your third point, maybe can I see some screenshots?

When you open MinMinGuard you see 3 tabs at the top, auto, blacklist and whitelist.

    • auto: you can't select anything and the app decides for you when to block ads and when not.
    • blacklist: everything gets to show ads by default and you select which apps get blocked.
    • whitelist: nothing gets to show ads by default and you select which apps are allowed to show ads.

Select the option you want. I went for the whitelist mode. Alas, LSPosed doesn't have that option, there you need to activate MinMinGuard for every new app you install, but at least after that you're safe from ads when using the whitelist mode..

  • Ehm, I thought we went overboard with the surefeeds we have for the cats (4) as one of the previous set needed special feed and buying 4 of those was cheaper then feeding all cats the same very expensive food. This proved a good investment, as shortly after a 2nd cat needed special feed and now one needs medicine trough the feed. But that's the other end of the process.

Here we have 4 cats and 6 litterboxes which get scooped daily. With the general rule of thumb of 1 box per cat and 1 extra worked well here with the clumping litter we use (wood based). 3 litterboxes are on the groundfloor (hallway), livingroom on the 1st floor, 2 boxes on the 2nd floor (hallway and a separate room accessible via a cat flap) and 1 on the attic. It takes me about 5 min to scoop the 3 on the ground floor, my wife needs a few min more as there are more stairs involved and the cats use those more since we use the same litter in all boxes (they went downstairs for the clay based grit, now they just go to the closest free one when they are in the bedroom).

I'd almost advice to try an extra litterbox 1st and don't place them in the livingroom. (when I saw the picture of those automated boxes they were situated in livingrooms) We humans have our toilet somewhere else as well. (you could try to teach the cat to use the toilet)

However, I'm curious about the automated boxes advised here.

  • You need something like this?

I guess he does. He's given all his away and has none to give left. (and still has energy to post instead of just abandoning the account)

  • Upvote: useful contribution

Downvote: clear nonsence I think is worth my effort (itt rarely is)

    Neither: rest.

  • I'll see what I can manage. Thanks for the pointers.

When I can manage simple ipv4 networking via networkd I'm already happy, as it means I can ditch NM again at work, that's giving me a lot more headaches then a flapping SLAAC that I'm not dependent on. (already switched back to my super stable tunnel) The situation here is a setup with 2 ipv6 tunnels, 1 ipv6 SLAAC, source based routing and no default gateway in main routing table for ipv6. Everything runs via the ipv4 pppoe connection. (and a load of vlans both sides of my router to internet)

  • Idiocracy was a great movie when it was satire, alas it's now at best a documentary (at worst a 'what could have been if things were good' movie) Reality caught up and beat it, alas.

  • I have:

    • Magisk (26.1) with zygisk enabled
    • Zygisk - LSposed v1.8.6 (6712) installed and enabled in Magisk
    • MinMinGuard 2.2.0 ('fixed' version from xda) installed and enabled in LSposed for all apps via hide uncheck everything and then active for every app I have (you can just activate for the app you want to test with, but ymmv, maybe it uses a system app to get the ads)
    • in MinMinGuard I've used the whitelist option with 2 games activated in the list as I want to have ads there to get more goodies

It could be the version you use. I totally forgot I had a 'fixed' version for Android 11+ (it's been running almost a year without issues/ads getting trough).

  • Replace a bunch of poorly integrated tools such as NetworkManager

You got me here... I'm now battling NetworkManager in scripting (alas, still no Ansible in place there, I doubt it'll be long before I have implemented it), the thing just refuses any configuration via files. Time to dive into the networkd setup. I also hope I can get rid of the very unstable ppoe and wide-dhcpv6-client setup I have here now via ifupdown2 on Debian. The restart I like as well. Time for a deep dive I guess. On Debian NM never caught on, thank $preferredDdiety, but at work it's a disaster.

  • I can't believe this reaction. You sound like you think CompuServ was internet and got replaced by Google. (or even didn't now the time before Google)

I admit that it would be nice to have a list of all available communities when looking at the all list in the communities section. When federating with another node, don't get everything, just the community list or the other node so people can subscribe when they want to. But it's just a nice to have, not a huge issue worth stating that 'a lot' is needed.

There were (and still are) separate communities before digg and reddit, the latter got to big for their own good and now the federated solution has nodes with a few to a lot of communities. It's a nice balance between the fragmented communities before the big corporation invasion and the colossal sites. Pick what you like and when you like the Reddit setup, they're still alive. (although the content quality is dropping fast)

  • Then I'd say, nothing. Why would you want to be famous and be bothered by people everywhere you go?
