  • Newer versions of OS'es have that option, but I guess most computers are pretty stationary, while most phones leave the house very regularly.

  • I for one totally agree with you. It took me ages to find a wife that didn't want kids as well. Ok, she can stand kids, for a short while, but wouldn't one in the house. I rather stay far away until the kids are about 12 or older. I took a vasectomy when abortion was discussed and rejected. No way I'd have more kids then wanted (0).

I don't understand why people have to like pups of their own kind at all costs. Of a lot other species I like the offspring, just not my own kind. Could be because I think we are with to many at the moment, at the cost of the rest. Ah well, nature will solve this issue for us.

  • It proved impossible for me.I use the phone for almost nothing, but what I use it for is hindered a lot by the bloatware (and huge amount of ads). At the moment I'd rather use a 5-6u old device that's debloated and rooted then a new one.

  • Depends on your banking app. In old Magisk versions you could hide Magisk for apps, but that is dropped since Magisk 24.0. I guess it depends on the banking app if they have a problem with rooted devices or not. The 2 I use don't jabe issues with a rooted device. I don't use NFC for payment so no clue if that's an issue.

Edit: It looks like they added MagiskHide again in 26.1 and added a DenyList feature. I need to dive into this.

  • Then I'll limit myself to the situation at work. ifupdown2 works great and doesn't need replacing at home.

  • Strange, it did block the ads here (Lineage 20/Android 13), but indeed didn't remove the squares around the ads.

  • After trying a Samsung A13 stock for a week (got lured in with the specs)_ I'm back again to my old Nokia 6.1 with Lineage. The hard requirement for the next phone will be custom rom support. (Pref Lineage) When you have tasted freedom, first rooted phone was the Samsung S2, 1st with custom rom a Moto G2, it's hard to go back.

Oh, I forgot, while developing for the '15 Samsung Tab S2 I got a value edition version gifted to develop something for as well. A company wanted a cyanogenmod/Lineage for that tablet and gave it to several developers to get that image. (tablet still runs)

  • I was developing Cyanogenmod (and later Lineage) for my own tablet (Samsung Tab S2 10") and I figured I could develop for the 8" 'blind' when the developer for that tablet quit. I got a few donations from the community to keep on developing on my own device. A few years later I'm answering this post on the device I could buy from those donations. (On Lineage that's been developed based on my code)

I also got a load of top quality classical LP's from a neighbour of my parents whe they moved away as 'your son loves LPs, would he like classacal albums?'. I still have to check most of them out. (Already found the piano items)

  • Just one. The defense business is a tad strict on security.

  • When you get a vasectomy, tight fitting underwear helps in the hours/days after (relieving the strain on the wound).

  • I've been using Lineage since it was called CyanogenMod (was maintainer for Samsung Tab S2). It is the cleanest rom I found. You'll need a gapps (google apps) source, but there is Nickgapps that gives a core set that only gives google store and the required services, so you can add whatever you want from the store.

I don't know GrpahenOS, but the only one even less bloated I know is AOSP, on which Lineage is based. You can add whatever you want, root is available via Magisk, which gives even more options. (Ad blocking via LSposed and MinMinGuard spring to mind)

  • I can't wait to chat with others via fediverse.

  • Most of the companies have a policy that requires you to wear the card visible to others. That it has rfid is just a bonus to get trough doors without hiring a guard to let personel in.

Believe me, it's not so bad when they allow you to wear it from your belt. (You can even put it in your pocket and give a feeble excuse when they ask you about it) At the company I'm at, I run the risk of getting shot for not wearing the badge. That makes me a tad less rebelous. (But I still refuse to wear the badge around my neck)

    • You'll survive those few days of 25C. Believe me, you'll wish for them soon enough when stuck with 40C days in spring.
    • You'll have fun
    • You'll marry (eventually)
    • Believe the doctor on the underwear part
    • You won't have kids, it worked
    • in 100 years, nothing will matter, go have fun and talk to girls. ;)
  • When you listen to FM, the frequency is cut-off, at 15 KHz when I remember correctly. It could be that the higher frequencies make you tired.

The radio in my car was setup so bad I couldn't stand any source, until I found the hidden equalizer settings. That helped, but the plastic dome tweeters in the rear speakers were the main cause. (I removed them completely)

  • My main router here is a RPi4 with 4GB memory, Debian and an USB interface for the connection to internet. The switches are Netgear (324 and a gifted 724) and tthe main server is an RPI 4 as well, but with 8G mem.

  • Same here, I have 2 for signal though, this one private and another for work signal. (It's the one for user KoffieNu@feddit.nl)

  • That's useful when you have a backup tool like TitaniumBackup (root needed) to do the backup locally to SD. That negates the need to sync to one of the 3 supported cloud platforms. (where a selfhoster wouldn't want to store the data)

  • Would it be an idea to add the alternative interfaces in this post?
