  • Why would you need usenet for that? We have NLUUG, that has them all (and BSD, and...) ready for download and use for net install. I guess there are more Unix User Groups that have sites like that.

  • Nop, when we want to reuse, we use containers, bags are for one-time use.

There is an exception, we have special treathed bags for storage of vegetables and fruits. The coating slows down ripening and the bags can be wased about 20x before the coating is gone. They usually don't last that long. Alas, the store that had them stopped with them, as most people just threw them away after a singele usage. (So we try to extend their lifespan, even without coating they're useful)

Ziplog bags are used for items where we want to use a few at a time of, instead of all at once, like storing carrots for us or the guniea pigs.

  • Wow, when I see the amount of data cleared by others, I wonder what they're reading. 325MB here. Thanks for the tip.

  • Most are, and still fall in the trap of replacing when repair would be cheaper in the long run. I still miss my 33 yo car that got totalled.

  • Ad blocker is still working perfectly... 100% personalized. (None 😇)

  • When will it end?

    Jump
  • Time is a figment of your imaginagion, luchtime doubly so.

  • The only silly amd serious easy solution, don't produce CO2 when not needed.

People in the west don't need a new smart phone every 6 months, don't need a new car every 4 year, don't need new clothes every year just to follow fasion.

Repair what needs repairing, use what you have and still works, don't buy new just because some sales idiot tells you it's better. At this moment we have huge waves of replacement of goods that function perfectly, but a new one is slightly more economic with the energy, ignoring the energy that is needed for production and transport. In the west we consume waste, not use products to their maximum potential.

  • Free for companies, not free for customers. There seems to be a difference.

  • It's normal in the US for companies to have rights and customers to not have rights.

  • Bought my 1st watch in '85, simple analog/digital display commodore and it still works.

  • Same here, bought a luxury safety razor for €79 with 50 blades. Alas, it's adjustable and that mechanic failed. Got a gilette version from the 60s and that's stoll fully functional, but the new one (qshave) is heavier and nicer to use. Bought a 20 pack of 10pc feather blades with it as well, 14 packs left. (280 weeks of shaving)

The type of razor is working out greatly, I just need to find a way to repair the qshave unit.

  • I was using DDG to get an idea what you're talking about, but I guess it's not Peter Tosh Albums or a Danial Tosh book (Happy Thoughts) Then I found ot's a posh woird for crap/junk.Ah well.

Nop, not here. When I buy cheap stuff it's because I'm not sure if I want to spend more on something better. Just to feel the water. I bought a frettless bass for €82 to see if I like that type of bass playing. If not, no big loss (they sell for a lot more used), if I do like it, I guess it'll stay. (I like it a lot, I'm just not that good yet in playing it)

Same with a clarinet mouthpiece + reed. At the store they had a range from €19 up to well over €100, but I have no clue if either a, the one I have works (mouthpiece is broken, reed is old) and b, I can/like to play it.

For some, these purchases would be considered useless, for me it's to try something without to high investment, so it has purpose. When people really want to 'throw away' money and have nothing to show for it, there are enough charities that could use the donations.

  • And Windows NT was the result of the failed joint venture with IBM while developing OS/2. While IBM wanted stability and preferred to let the user wait at power up until the IS was sure everything checked out, MS wanted fast user satisfaction and if things fail, just let the user reboot.

I prefer to get a cup of coffee when the computer boot up at the start of the day, but no, 'the market' preferred a quick start and regular coffee breaks during the day. I'd almost suspect MS from having stocks in the coffee industry.

Which OS is better? The one that meets the user's needs. I'm glad there is choice, my choice isn't everybody's choice. The Windows desktop at work comes with a helpdesk, which works fine for me. (when I need them, but I'll deny any knowledge of Windows ;) )

  • That would be really annoying (when I would use sound)

On the other hand, the Nvidia card I use refuses to work via the external monitor (USB-C) at power on when plugged in. Power on, then plug in, then I have screen... weird.

    • Apple: We support apple hardware
    • Microsoft: We support hardware from this list
    • Linux: You want support, write it yourself.
    • Nvidia: You want support, use windows
    • Laptop developers: You want performance, oh, you're a gamer, here have a Nvidia card.

You might ask, why a laptop: power consumption for the moments I don't need power. I don't want QHD on 17", 24" is better for my aging eyes so external monitor is a requirement. (previous one had 4K on 15", cheapest screen option to buy)

  • Why? There are so many snowflakes around, that you'd get texts like this:

    • ***'* ***** **** ***** ****!

I'd say get a life and don't be offended so much. On the other hand, the human plague would be solved fast when nobody would fuck anymore. You're on to something. ;)

  • I got it via this XDA post. (version 2.2.0, I was off a tad)

I'm running it with the latest Lineage (20), Latest Magisk (26.3), Zygisk activated and LSPosed v1.9.1 (6990).

  • Interesting to know. As of which version? RPi 4? I have to admit, I never tried it.

  • Sure but the 80s were when we knew as an entire nation that global warming was coming to wreck our shit.

Then I'm curious which nation you are in that denied the issues in the 70s. The 1st UN climate conference was in Stockholm in 1972.

Exxon had an entire team dedicated to energy transition. They had extensive documents proving global warming.

In the capitalisting era, nothing was more important then making money, not even species survival in the (near) future was important enough to allow to rean a few cent less.

And then they and other oil companies managed to punt the action, scrap their internal teams and bury their heads in the sand because of profits.

    Check, this.

The head of every oil company should’ve been brought up in front of the fucking Hague for that shit. Too bad they’re already all dead.

Nah, even the current ones can be brought to court, but not only the oil company execs, even governments are to blame. It would be a major improvement when something would be done, instead of still denying something is wrong.

  • Until now I haven't found a better alternative then minminguard. (Although I had to switch to the 1.20 version another developer based on the older versions to get it to work on Android 13) It works in all apps, not just browsers. (and the non-browser apps are the ones I want to block ads in)

What would be a good alternative then to minminguard.

  • Hmmm, then I'm happy that I bought the licence in '12 and it was useful... until Android 13. Now I know why restores on Android 13 fail.

Time to move on. I'll checkout neobackup.
