  • No clue why we need AI for that, we can arrange our mass extinction perfectly by ourselves by just continuing on this road. 🤭

At this moment, I think the main issue is that we as a species don't think enough of our mass extinction. For some strange reason, most people (at least in 'the west') think they'll survive whatever happens, nuclear war, climate change,...

However, no matter the method of our extinction, I guess most people thinking about it think it would be bad. From nature's point of view we're just "a species" and when evolution in this direction proves to be a bad route, no big loss.

  • Lemmy seems to be a good place to start. ;)

I usually use ddg to search for sites, lurk there for a while to see what the questions and answers are and after a while either ask a question myself, when I like the site and haven't seen the questlon with appropiate answer in search results. That is, when I'm not member of a RL club and they have meetings/a site I can find the answer.

  • When Android is old enough, yep. Android 13 needs an update of Titanium backup for it to work again. Alas, TB didn't get an update since '19 so I'm using neo backup now. (Haven't tested message restores yet)

  • Ehm, good one... what would happen to all satellites and ISS? Would all that junk still spin in the same orbit or would it be flung out into space?

  • I see loads of posts that ad blockers stopped working on youtube. However, I still have no ads there. I'm running vivaldi with ublock on Linux and Vivaldi with minminguard on Android (EU based).

Is this a firefox issue, US only,...?

  • I'm using a cooling element in the water to keep it cool. Those come from the fridge. The cooler came with to elements you can fill with water and put in the freezer, but I prefer to use the elements I already have.

  • I'm using Magisk, LSposed and MinMinguard (2.2.0). LSPosed has the minminguard module enabled for all apps (including system) and minminguard has the whitelist mode with no app whitelisted. Works great. (And when a site starts nagging anyway, I'm out, not worth my time)

  • I think the biggest issue would be food. We have loads of farmers in the area and the bike is usable. However, to many people in the area and a lot of specialized crop.

With the canned food, I guess around a month, then it'll get challeging.

  • The web is decentralized, social media, which is a small part of it, just isn't. (Which consumes loads of traffic)

  • There would so be a market for it, although I'd rather have the artificial odor market be killed off instead. Saves a lot of waste as well. (as the air pollution, those smells... yuck)

  • Nop, not stupid. I've managed to get almost all conatcts to signal, butnalas, some distant relatives still have wa. (It hasn't made a beep for months now)

  • "Survival of the fittest" when used to indicate the stongest should survive. Instead of the one best suited for (fitting) the situation.

  • Aircooler

Pretty simply put, what you get when you take a fan and put a chilled/frozen water bottle in front of it. Say a fan in about the same housing looking like a portable airco with water being dripped in the airflow instead of using a coolant in a radiator to cool the air flowing trough.

It's a cheaper way to get the temp 1-2 degrees (C) lower instead of freezing your *** off in dehumidified air.

  • Who out there using computers without sound?

I use my computers without sound, until I watch a vid (I use headphones for that). I hate the constant beeps for attention. Same with tablets, no sound, not even when playing a game. The only device that is allowed to make a sound is the phone. (and then very limited)

  • American kids sigh...

I'm getting old. (Bought my 1st Linux ISO in '95)

  • They wouldn't like that. Also their food shouldn't be in the bag, but in their cage... (according to them)

  • Why should you want to cancel shows? When you don't like the show, don't watch. When nobody likes a show, nobody watches, no ad income -> exit show.

Of your example, I never heard of the last one, and to be honest, the name doesn't sound interesting enough to find out whatnit's about. Simpsons I haven't seen in ages (does it still run?) And I'm happy with the 2nd reboot of Futurama, rewatching from the start.

Just because you don't like a show it should be canceled. Ignoring it is way easier. When it's worth to have it canceled, it's not worth to fuss about.

  • For me there is no legitimate interest from sites. When they ask to track you, the answer is no for me. Required cookies that will break the site when you block them are bad enough, but can be useful for fora or sites where you order stuff.

  • Quit.

The government here (Netherlands) failed to make any long term decisions. They didn't even make bad decisions, just none what so ever. After the government fell, all major political figures in the main parties just quit. Time for new blood and for the youngest generations to start making decisions. The oldies won't survive long enough to have to worry about the mess the world is in and the mess will only get worse.

No clue if elections will result in something better, but it'll be interesting to see which direction the voters will be going. I't finally worth it to vote for the youngest eligible voters.

  • An air cooler. I hate airco (and way to expensive) and got the tip at the hairdresser to get one. Great way to spend the giftcard I received when joining a union. (maybe the union subscription tops it, not sure yet)
