  • Anglo-saxon economics. Very short term goals, no viable survival strategy of the country.

  • I guess they'll either drown, freeze, burn or starve.

I don't have the impression they'd act before they're dying.

  • Totally agree, as I once wore a suit on 'casual friday'. (I refuse to wear them for work, but had a wedding afterwards)

  • My Elora ratchet set, bought in '99, used it on all daily drivers and hobby cars, saved me loads of cash on car maintenance. (And several jobs in the house) still going strong, although both ratchets need maintenance.

  • I got a Samsung S2 in 2013 I guess. Was from my employer, where I could choose between that phone and an iPhone, which would cost me extra (and I had to return the iPhone when leaving, withiut reinbursment). I rooted the S2 pretty soon after I got it to be able to install Titanium Backup.

I wish I had the phone still, but just before I left the charge port failed and I got a battered one from an ex colleague. On peaving I could buy it, which I would have done with the original, but not the write-off I got.

  • I wish it would be as easy to install as typing apt-get install i2pd and just answer a few questions. (Or even better, have it as advised package off qbittorrent)

I'll look into the script to see what it's doing before trying an install, but most users either blindly run the command or won't bother.

  • They use those discs and no, they don't scratch the screen. There is a thin adhesive film at the side that touched the screen. When the screen is to hot when you use itm like during games, there is a slight chance that the film gets loose. (had dat happen with 1 of the discs after years of use) The replacement discs are expensive compared to the pen, but I bought 2 pens in 2017, my wife stopped using them, but I use them daily and had to replace 1 disc in al those years.

I got my hands on 2 cheap predecessors (I guess, the 1.0 version) but either they were cheap knock-offs or a bad batch. Also the discs weren't compatible (main reason I bought them). The 2.0 version is slimmer, which I prefer.

  • They'd loose loads of sales. I wouldn't mind, as I don't 'celebrate' those days anyway, but economically it would be bad for loads of stores and every company that is making or other way involved in all that junk.

It's more about commerce then religion anyway.

  • We have 2. The el-cheapo (Lidl) is called Robby and is let loose in the bedroom and bathroom. The rumba is called Robert and is for the livingroom.

  • I've been using the Adonit Jot pro 2 for years now. Love how they handle, they are slim and light. No clue how they write though, as I don't write on the tablet. There is no compatibility issue, as there are no electronics in it. For me it was a slimmer replacement of the cheap ones with a rubber tip that were damaging the screen's protective film.

  • Thanks, I found K9 on F-droid. I used that years ago, no clue why I switched...

Now to find a foss alternative for Business Calendar that works on Android 13. Calendar specific notification sounds are great, but not when they are played hours after the scheduled item.

  • Depends on why people start projects.

When projects are only started to 'just get them done', then AI can be seen as a tool to get them started or even do all.

When projects are started to learn something, I personally would ignore AI completely, as I want to learn something other then how to hand over projects to AI.

I am lazy, but not that lazy. I automate IT tasks myself when I have to do it more then once. I automate with Puppet for own use, script at work and Ansible when I can't avoid it. (The market wants easy partial automation, not total control)

  • To be honest, not.

    1. my employer gives apple mobiles out
    2. anything usefull can't be done on those small screens
    3. screens that are large enough to show anything useful aren't portable
    4. when I'm out of the office/not working from home, I'm not available for work, so I don't need to use android for productivity

Privately, I have an email client for emergencies (used aqua, but with the subscription junk now introduced, looking for a good FOSS alternative) and a calendar which I need to check more. That's about it peoductivity wise.

  • Yeah, everybody with a phone can be followed... unless the leave the phone at home, forgeg toncharge it, ...

For every high-tech problem there is a low-tech solution.

  • I'm using calibre as server and moon+ reader (pro) as reader. I can download the ebooks from my calibre server and with the pro version of moin+ reader I can sync reading positions (and books) between devices. This way I can continue reading on the phone where I was on the tablet while traveling.

  • Text? isn't that dead for ages?

  • Maintaining your own mailserver is getting challenging, but post like these show it's still worth the effort.

I don't unsubscribe from spam, I block domains.

  • That would explain a lot. We'll see how this develops. For me it would be no big loss when adblock detectoon starts to work here. Loads of spare time to get back. ;) (no ads or no content, as I refuse to watch ads)

  • No ads here, adblocker active and I can watch yt in the Netherlands. Either the ad block detecting is not perfect or not globally active.
