  • Gotta admit, that would be the most hilarious assasination of all time.

"umm... yeah so we gave him a gift of a technology that america doesn't even use... of which the only way most people in america even remember they exist, is because we turned a bunch of them into bombs... But it's gold plated and tacky looking which trump can't resist, so we know he'll wear it openly on his next press conference".

  • I mean yes fuck them..., also it's sad that things are far enough in the lunacy that... they are aware how fucked the rest of the path is. It's kind of like when the headlines for Isis were basically "Al Queda is warning that ISIS is too extreme".

  • Problem here that comes first and foremost... we're threatening to block trumps appointments? Sorry none of his appointments should have deserved a single democratic vote. If you could block them... why the hell are we confirming the DUI initiative in charge of the military, and a medicine denying Health agent.

I can't name a single trump pic that's even close to qualified... and all of them should be fought every step of the way on their own merits... regardless of what musk is doing.

  • I'm for one solid in things... but yeah friends, family, I can do without all that.

Job, House, and of course citizen status... not so easily for me. especially in my case as I'm not legally married to my GF, and have an 18 year old non biological son that's also not legally connected to me or my wife in any way.

  • Which fricking is insane... because while a pain in the ass, social media is optional to begin with, and if you organize your friends together, you can all go join a mastadon instance or any number of other options. If I knew an easy way to leave the US, I'd have considered the option a long time ago.

  • But if all these generative models are so designed to replace the people upon whose videos they’re based, who/what will train the next generation of models, I wonder?

Maybe we hit a regular cycle...

IE Data is all trained on real video, gets good enough that humans cannot differentiate. Real video becomes rare, AIs are now training on AI videos. Result... AI video becomes effectively copy of copy of copy of copy... degredation becomes obvious. as mistakes are now compounding. AI developers have to start creating and introducing un-tampered video to train with. AI starts to get better.

  • I mean... one one hand it's hardly supprising. Off the bat we know AI is more knowledgable than any single individual that doesn't bother to research... and well 80% of online forum type posts aren't exactly researched. second, AI can confidently bullshit in a way that can only be debunked easily by someone knowledgeable.

  • Remember, a lot of the time we say “Well the President can’t do this” or “The President can’t do that”, we are relying on long-standing norms, expectations, and traditions. Not actual law. Trump is challenging all of that. He’s not relying on those long-standing norms. He’s challenging them. Instead of saying “I can’t”, he’s saying “Why can’t i? And what are you going to do about it if I do?”, and finding out that nobody really has an answer for that.

We will call this new style of politics "air bud politics". Where we find out that basically if we didn't say the president can't do something, it's assumed he implicitly can.

  • Is there a chance this can be half spun... IE lets say he doesn't have any actual ability to do more then send out e-mails and walk up to people and say "You are fired".

In the same way that I can walk into walmart and tell every employee they are fired. Which if I can make myself sound important they may leave... I don't have the authority to fire them, but who's going to stop me. First ammendment says we can yell "you are fired" in a crowded theater.

  • I mean off the bat that's one of the worse combinations of people/product I've ever seen. I mean off the bat electric car's target market is people that want to think they are doing something better for the environment.

So... then the guy making them goes loudly in the "fuck the environment" group.

To top it off though, Cybertruck itself always confuses me. I don't know who the target audience is. The original tesla's I could look at and think, that's a cool car, if they ever came down in price I'd be interested.

Cybertruck you look at and think... What a car would look like if you scaled up games from the 32/64 bit console era and made them HD without increasing the polygon count.

  • Geeze, so fricking ridiculous. Though I also have to ask... why the hell is europe "abstained" on that one. You'd think the guys that were wrecked by WW1 would be first in line to say "Fascism is bad".

  • I think that part was obvious, I think the real question is, what the fuck is a bill to "Denounce" anything.

Seriously, I assume there's a bill to "Denounce" facism too right? Can we get a bill to say "nickleback isn't very good?".

What exactly is a bill with no actual prescriptions?

  • Tardigrades are awesome, but what about those unaging jellyfish?

I mean yeah still not quite the same thing. IE obviously I don't see jellyfish surviving in space. But do tardigrades age?

Which side note it looks like they do... while they can basically go in suspended animation, waterbears seem to have about a 3 year lifespan.

So, these guys are virtually unkillable for 3 years, but Turritopsis dohrnii while it can be killed, can live forever.

  • I don't see that as a particularly good idea. One not really sure if it's possible. To my knowledge the only things that majorly run better in chrome, are google's sites. May be part deliberate, but could just be super tuning to what they know.

But the biggest thing is lemmy is a small community that is best to encourage to grow. Fact is doing things to alienate part of your user base, is only really a good idea when you are the industry dominitor. IE the one so far ahead that you can make everything 20x worse, and second place can do everything 20x better, and still not fall into range of the second place competitor.

  • That I cannot disagree with... Will 100% agree that flaws were made with... (in no particular order)

    1. Voters not actually researching until it was too late. The amount of trump voters posting "what do you mean tarrifs will raise prices on stuff". and amount that were searching "what is a tarrif", stories of actual trump supporters that literally are getting deported etc... There's absolutely a lot of trump voters, that wouldn't have voted it if they took the time to understand what trump was literally openly saying he'd do... and did.
    2. Non voters... IE via apathy or disagreements on the democratic party. Be it over just lazyness, or to try and get the democratic party to represent them better... the end result is now it's going to take years of work whenever power is taken just to bring the country back to where it was a month ago... let alone improve it in the ways they wanted.
    3. The democratic party. Honestly there's 2 pretty blaring mistakes IMO in this campaign... starting with bypassing the primary, covering up Biden's senility and letting him re-run. Rushing the flip to harris with now no primary or system in place of letting anyone chose our candidate... Then some major misteps on the harris campaign, which I felt was doing amazing early on... making solid steps solid grabs, minor misstep in refusing to criticize or draw a strong contrast between herself and biden., climbing in the polls... Before suddenly making a hard right turn on messaging. Courting the unobtainable red voters instead of focusing on motivating her own base to get out and vote.

I agree, trump is awful enough, that this should have been a slam dunk. the fact that this was ever anywhere close is an embarasment to the country as a whole constantly.

That being said... it still sucks that there's a very good chance that even through those flaws, there's still reason to question if we had won by a few percent... because honestly the potential of a small scale sabatoge (IE one to drop a few percent of votes rather than just outright change the machines and do it in bulk), would just be a 4th factor to add to that list.
