  • That I cannot disagree with... Will 100% agree that flaws were made with... (in no particular order)

    1. Voters not actually researching until it was too late. The amount of trump voters posting "what do you mean tarrifs will raise prices on stuff". and amount that were searching "what is a tarrif", stories of actual trump supporters that literally are getting deported etc... There's absolutely a lot of trump voters, that wouldn't have voted it if they took the time to understand what trump was literally openly saying he'd do... and did.
    2. Non voters... IE via apathy or disagreements on the democratic party. Be it over just lazyness, or to try and get the democratic party to represent them better... the end result is now it's going to take years of work whenever power is taken just to bring the country back to where it was a month ago... let alone improve it in the ways they wanted.
    3. The democratic party. Honestly there's 2 pretty blaring mistakes IMO in this campaign... starting with bypassing the primary, covering up Biden's senility and letting him re-run. Rushing the flip to harris with now no primary or system in place of letting anyone chose our candidate... Then some major misteps on the harris campaign, which I felt was doing amazing early on... making solid steps solid grabs, minor misstep in refusing to criticize or draw a strong contrast between herself and biden., climbing in the polls... Before suddenly making a hard right turn on messaging. Courting the unobtainable red voters instead of focusing on motivating her own base to get out and vote.

I agree, trump is awful enough, that this should have been a slam dunk. the fact that this was ever anywhere close is an embarasment to the country as a whole constantly.

That being said... it still sucks that there's a very good chance that even through those flaws, there's still reason to question if we had won by a few percent... because honestly the potential of a small scale sabatoge (IE one to drop a few percent of votes rather than just outright change the machines and do it in bulk), would just be a 4th factor to add to that list.

  • Agreed with most of the comments here... Bracing for the 2026 midterms and prepping for the advertisments that will focus on how rude trumps been, stuff like elons nazi salute etc... While somehow avoiding talking about the economic devastation, country burning down around us.

  • In a statement, President Donald Trump said his administration was "totally engaged".

We're ready to call it DEI... all we need is one woman or minority pilot or Controller. We're also ready to say it's common sense to blame DEI if there aren't any.

  • In general speed limits are enforced IMO, just within a certain level. IE yes everyone exceeds the speed limit... but typically by set amounts. IE I know myself I generally go 9 over the speed limit. I expect to get a ticket if I go 11-20 over the speed limit.

That being said, yeah the social construct is probably intentionally encouraged by cops, so that say when they are pulling over random minorities for an excuse to search the car, they have an automatic excuse for why they pulled them over.

  • Most importantly... if you ask the conservatives, if you pay your workers a living wage, you fail capitalism your stock prices are doomed

    https://www.financecharts.com/compare/COST,WMT

Yet unless I'm an idiot, when I put the chart out to 10 years... I see costco's stock price leaping... and walmarts price pretty damn flat.

  • Hypothetical... what if this is a coup by say Vance, or any of his underlings. The fact is the constitutional crisis's of arresting a sitting president are all defeated.

We then discover he's not immune to being deported for his felonies... and trump walks down the street as they ring the bell and say "shame" over and over again.

  • and care to realize that some things aren't options for everyone. The ones struggling with food insecurity... ain't the ones with parents that have an easy time finding transportation and ability to get them to work... Not to mention the general fact that if we increase the amount of people hunting the jobs that don't need education/experience... the openings dry up.

  • Jerkoff

  • No he's not quite wrong I'm not sure if they've ever showed grovers house.

But oscar lives in a trash can. which would indeed make him look like he lives a dumpster...

  • So... in public actions his 2 main plays were to negate consequences for people who committed violence in his favor.

Then to openly and publicly announce that he's taking away security for others... Guy may as well go on television and say "If some of my supporters were to happen to these guys, I'd probably pardon them".

  • The levels of chaos that can come from this are off the charts... Yeah someone can purchase life insurance on an unborn child... at the same time every miscarriage is on the board for manslaughter/homicide, basically leading mothers to prove that the miscariages were not intended or negligent. The ramifications and definitions of things are outright terrifying.

  • Unless democracy is disbanded I don't see that happening. He may be the same kind of con artist that trump is... but I can't see him ever getting that loser nerd image out of the heads of any group no matter how much MMA training he takes.

  • they just want to know what’s in your pants (or used to be).

    At the moment of conception....

Of course that's the real poison pill of this. The real intention is to declare personhood at conception... and pave the way for the nation wide abortion ban. Making things worse for trans people, is just the decoy.

  • Well yeah I wasn't saying all of them are. I was saying a disproportionate amount of them. IE say anti-capitalist views that are 1 in 1000 on facebook, are 1 in 50 on reddit, and 2 of 5 on lemmy.

  • I don’t think it helps that politics absolutely dominates Lemmy, where Reddit has enough diverse subreddits that you could probably just avoid politics all together.

I think that's the problem with all "alternative" social media... both ones that I like and stand behind like lemmy... and the opposite end, the Parlors, MeWe's, Truth Social etc...

The point is... mainstream people talking about shows, video games etc... rarely hit any kind of limitations in the public spaces. I myself still go on reddit to see communities of specific shows, games etc... and... it's fine for that. If I were to try and make the suggestion for a show or movie subreddit to move to lemmy, it would be a tough case.

The ones who see the flaws and limits of the corporate platform... are the ones either teetering at the edge of socially acceptable, or over it.

Whether that's say us lefties that believe All Cops are Bastards, or right wing guys that think america was better in Jim Crow era. Bottom line is... people looking for alternatives, are doing so because the existing platforms are likely to censor them... which means the alternatives will be disproportionately more extreme.

  • I mean, it's probably best to stay out of political subs at that point. Reddit's pretty far left of... mainstream US media, and yeah lemmy is fairly left of reddit.

But to be honest, just politics in social media will always be arguing. You aren't likely to find a political group that perfectly lines up with exactly where you are.

  • More accurately, when your podcast accepts nazi's on your show... and you let them go off on rants and you don't push back on them... your show is nazi propoganda.

It's perfectly reasonable for a show to have horrific people on.... so long as they loudly are showing "No that is bullshit, here's why that is bullshit!".
