  • Somehow I half expect to find out space X through some crazy means accidentally stumbled into time and interdimensional travel. He will bring in another dimensions hitler, argue it's a good guy... Trump will explain that this one's ok because in his dimension none of the people he killed were called jews, so he's ok, Hitler will meet with Nyetnyahu, the 2 will quickly become friends and the republicans will declare opposing alt-hitler as anti-semetic.

  • I was thinking exactly the same thing... maybe with the exception of the 30% that actually believed his bullshit enough to vote for him... I've been bracing for the huge inflation bolster since he was elected...

Hell trump and musk have kind of warned us, inflation is going to get worse (and lied about it being so it can get better... ignoring the general fact that inflation is a one way street, you can't fix it... you can only slow it down, and/or speed up wages to catch up to it)

  • but I do think they’ll choose to comply here rather than trigger more wars with the court system.

I don't know, there's an added benefit to "wars" with the court system. IE you get it to the supreme court, then you have precidence. it's a one time chore, to kneecap all courts forever.

  • I mean it's not just courage sadly... the DOJ has basically said opposing them is opening yourself up to criminal prosecution.

Again yes I will cheer on, hell I'll donate to the legal defense of someone who gets charged in standing up to them... but I can't blame anyone for not taking the extreme risks.

  • Well it's the concept of not being fediverse. Point is one great developer running everything is awesome. However he's tying it into bluesky... which also while it seems great on the surface right now, is still basically positioned that if it sells out it could be just as corrupted as Dorseys previous project

  • I would say lemmy is in one of the better positions of the fediverse, as far as being useful.

IE IMO the facebook/instagram equivelents you need an insane critical mass to get anywhere, because simply put, in a crowd of 100k in the globe, you probably don't have your friends/family... IE the people you use those apps to see.

Mastadon... a little bit better as you are looking for general stuff, but still the main drive of twixxer is reading on celebs, noteworthy figures etc...

Lemmy... well sure in 100k people you'll absolutely find some with interesting discussion on politics, gaming, plenty of memes and cat pictures etc... Obviously without a real huge constant growth we won't be the ideal place to discuss super niche topics (least ones that aren't only discussed by a handful of geeks). So barring either super narrowly focused migrations, or major exedus's lemmy will probably lag behind reddit when it comes to say discussing specific games/movies, but will continue to have great content in the overall gaming/movie/meme topics.

  • and that's a thing to me, IMO I don't think that there wasn't potential to make good mobile phone games... or say for developers of phone games to default to allowing a standard clip controller etc...

But even with the basic limitations of a phone as a controller, it's worth noting that the real fall of mobile gaming was just the rise of the shitty, microtransaction to progress games. That can be seen with the trajectory of even games that were origionally well loved mobile games, hopping on that bandwaggon (IE angry birds, plants vs zombies etc...)

  • Honestly the reality is mobile games just developed a horrendous development culture and incentive base.

What I find kind of baffling is why did mobile gaming manage to effectively kill pocket sized gaming systems. IE I'm seeing the positive sign of the semi-portable systems. IE Switch and steamdeck...

But the gameboys and PSPs were basically killed by mobile phones. But they offered, basically quality games... yes 4+ generations behind existing PCs and consoles. But fun complete games that were worth $20-$50 to drop, and actually get many hours of fun out of.

  • I mean... beyond the utmost stupidity of the US renaming everything internally. We're basically setting up for everything to work like our measurements system.

There's the solution. we won't actually anex any other countries... but internally in america we'll just call them all "eagleton" and "America's Hat" and "Dirty land where everyones trying to get into america from".

  • There’s tons of alternatives out there now that are as good or better.

Are they as popular, or the default use. How many "alternatives" are actually just piping through chatgpt.

Controlling information means getting control of the defaults, the ones people are used to using.

  • Which I agree with... IE I like the system of "your camera catches a hit and run", you can go knock on their door, ask them to share the footage with you... and you give it to your lawyer, cops or insurance adjusters as you see fit.

What people like me don't like is the idea that the cops decide to search your permission, use your footage to prosecute a crime you wouldn't want to. Imagine the same scenerio... except instead of a hit and run... lets say it was say someone delivering pot... or a hispanic person just going home for the day, and ICE was looking for someone to bother, etc...

Point is we're all happy to be witnesses to crimes that hurt people. but we also know you give cops too much power.. and you'll find horrible things happening

  • and sadly, the amount of people who use chatgpt to try and get factual information, is quite high... which makes this even more terrifying. It's about systematically gaining control of communication and information.

  • Conservatives talk so much about wanting limited government... but so quick to try to throw out literally what is taught in elementary school about... keeping the government in check.

What somewhat baffles me the most... is it's not like they are really even worried about being stopped.. only slowed down.

We know damn well that trump owns the supreme court... and half the federal courts. So the point is at the end of the day his orders are going through anyway, as the supreme court will continue to pick up these and overrule all precedent, constitutionality and general law.

  • Was a long article comparing it... and yeah long and short without going through stretches... big things to note is the biblical antichrist will fool most of the faithful, lie constantly, boast like crazy, the 7 heads could be in line with the 7 trump towers etc...

one more interesting thing that after those articles came out (was durring his first term), that to me jumps out is there's something regularly interpreted as a death/resurection of the antichrist. Basically it's described as a wound to his head, that vanished as if it was never there.

Which could be interpreted for trump in multiple ways. (IE the bullet to the ear, or even the lost 2020 election that most considered him defeated in politics and done for).

  • Unpopular opinion maybe, but I’m ok with this. It’s less clutter if all you want is to see public holidays, and it’s easy enough to install calendars that show other events.

Well it's not unpopular so to speak... had they never included them that would be one thing... Hell had they removed them 2 years ago that would have been a fine decision. On the other hand removing them right now... it's quite blatently obvious the motivation isn't decluttering. It's about making sure the racists in power don't have to look at anything that might make them unhappy.

  • That’s exactly me as well. Tried it, looked at random people’s cats and dogs. Not for me.

I think that's kind of the challange we've got with regards to making social media from a nerds perspective. We're a bunch of nerds that don't understand the appeal of the things we want to make alternatives to, and wouldn't be interested in using them even if they weren't run by horrible evil tech corporations.

  • Long and short... Pretty much all the big tech heads sat in the front at trumps innaugeration, including Zuck. Shortly afterwards there were a bunch of coincidental "bugs" of things like, all results being hidden when searching for democrats and LGBT, and people being set to follow trump.
