  • The guard rails have been ropes with a polite "do not cross" sign for decades. Last 10 years the republicans have been jumping over them scribbling on everything... and the democrats are just going "they can't do that, the sign says don't cross".

  • Hate to say it, but I cannot find an alternate front end to it. There might be one, but documentation on it is pretty scarce, every tutorial I've ever seen has just told how to let nextcloud use it.

  • I mean it's true, but the same general concept could be said about the internet. Everything runs on IPV4 or IPV6 so they can't use names. OP's concept is why isn't there say, a universal phone book that say if I punched DHORK into my phone, it would go to a server where you are listed on, return your phone number, and then my phone automatically dials you.

To which I suppose the reality is... it wouldn't really be much of a helper. everyone would have like 3-4 digits in their usernames anyway (because any combination of real first/last names, and english words would be gone in hours of the systems introduction). So your typical registered name would be JohnSmith3821 Which isn't that much faster to learn, write or dial than a normal 9 digit number.

  • Again though I'm seeing it, at least working well, would be like a patreon, I wouldn't think of it as a reddit "power user", I'd imagine that more as courting people that already have some form of business. Say authors, artists, video game developers, youtube video creators etc... that would be posting stuff either early or exclusively there.

  • Yeah will believe it when I see more documentation. Does medicare fraud exist absolutely... is it possible they found some cases of it, absolutely...

Now knowing them is it likely that most of what they found is entirely legitimate things, maybe if they are being particularly clever they will get 1 or 2 legitimate mistakes to headline, while tens of thousands of people who actually qualify and need it are stripped from the roles (assuming they don't just shut down medicare universally)

  • I mean question if you are meaning at work, or in your personal twitter etc...

That being said free speech is about being able to say what you want... but not about forcing others to be around said speech. IE I don't know your political views, don't really feel like digging through the post history because it doesn't matter.

Conceptually though, if say I worked with a racist for instance. he spent the day talking about how mexicans are taking our jobs etc... that would make the workplace very uncomfortable... and as I need to be at work to survive, I would hope my workplace would have an HR person willing to put an end to that. I got no problem if someone else believes that shit, or if he goes home and posts on twitter and other media sources...

  • " problematic under current security standards."

Is there an understatement of the year award.

It's slightly troublesome that not only were a bunch of 20ish year olds, at least one in his past was fired for posting company secrets on discord... not only are able to walk into any government agency and get classified information... but are also, notably posting them to the public. (and that's just what we see them doing publicly... lord knows if anything is traveling through any hidden channels etc...

That's "problematic" in the way 9/11 was a "troubling event".

  • Care to even explain the question... if it were serious and simple I'd make the POST for you... not give you an account lol

Giving you the best benefit of the doubt, and lets say your bans were unjustified, and the reddit admin's are power tripping. You are IP banned, any account you get, is probably also going to be auto banned from scratch as well.

  • So sounds to me like... reddit's looking to compete with say patreon etc... IE allow people to post content either early to payers, or release some things exclusively to payers.

Obviously the value of that will depend on how big of a cut reddit goes after, and assuming they don't try and move existing participant focused subreddits to it.

  • Much as I kind of wish the US would be overtaken by a european nation or Canada. Unfortunately it's the problem of how military progress has happened since WW2. AKA the US military is scaled up enough to basically make the USA vs "Every nation of the world suddenly decided to gang up and attack the US at the same time"... is an even match.

Which in and of itself is terrifying to me, that we let that happen. I mean realistically what is more likely to happen in history... 1 crazy leader goes tyranical.... many groups need to get together to stop it. Or... every nation in the world goes insane at the same time, one powerful nation that still holds it's sanity needs to snap them all out of it.

In short IMO a long time ago the world should have done a "OK look, it's not good for one guy to be too much stronger than everyone else. We need to start a pact where, say the US starts trading it's weapons to 10 or more countries... so that theoretically a 5 vs 1... should be a guaranteed victory for the 5.

  • I mean I'd say it's good for hope of getting rid of the asshole. Democrats are terrible at getting rid of incumbants even when they are awful.

Was going to say I expected NYC to be pretty left wing as well so, Adams should be a quick easy one to get rid of... but then remembered Juliani was stupidly well loved for such a long time.

  • I'm just shy of 40... My ex had what's now my son when I was 21. My son is 18 so... guess I'm kind of close to there... though my son has my level of anti-socialness so... I dont really see being a grandparent in the near future.
