There was a big ambitious project called "Masks of Power" which was going to be a full 3D action platformer. It looked truly amazing for a fan project, certainly better than anything LEGO has done for Bionicle.
The team had been working on the project for eight years. In that time they've had multiple talks with officials from LEGO, who seemed to be fine with it (especially since Bionicle has been dead for 10 years). LEGO featured the project on their official podcast, and even allowed for a Steam release, so long as it remained free and none profit.
We were going to get the first demo of that game a few months from now. But two weeks ago LEGO sent a cease and desist, and the project is dead.
There are several large, ambitious projects in the works by Bionicle fans, a number of them animation projects, one of which I'm part of as 3D artist... But now with Team Kanohi and their game project lynched, we're all feeling like there's a sword hanging over our heads.
We see it most prevalently in games because the gaming industry is massive. But this can also happen to your car... Or your fridge...
Here's a fun story:
There were these few blind people who volunteered to have cybernetic implants that would help them (partially) see. The company went under, the patent is held by a patent troll, but the people still have those implants in their head... Which have now either shut down or are malfunctioning...
Oh for fuck sake, this has never been a good argument, and people who keep repeating these argument-questions (almost like they're a copy paste) either never read what Stop Killing Games demands, or lack the reading comprehension necessary to understand it.
The third option would be malicious sabotage, but I'm hoping it's just one of the two stupidity options.
But that would be great! Let's start an awesome exploration of a very existential topic. Certainly better and more interesting that talking about shopping.
Yes... Because all those games where you play as some American grunt fighting in the middle East is something totally different and not comparable at all.
Thor Love and Thunder was an absolute waste of Christian Bale. Holy crap was that disappointing.
Also hate how every movie since Guardians 2 and Thor 3 have basically been comedies. I distinctly remember Age of Ultron being disliked and critiqued for all the things that Marvel movies today do all the bloody time!
The only condition under which I wouid ever consider getting a neural implant, is if the implant and its software is open source.
Any closed source thing you stick in your brain will ultimately doom you.
Besides that, there'd also actually have to be a purpose. As it stands now, cybernetics isn't advanced enough to turn me into a full cyborg, so probably never in my lifetime.
I posted the story to someone else on the comments.
