  • Reminds me of wildfires.

Australia was gripped by some of the worst wildfires in history, and it was said that, while wildfires are inevitable, climate change contributed to the scale of them.

Saw loads of Americans call it alarmism, abd not an issue because it was just Australia.

Then the next year America was gripped by some of the worst wildfires in history. Suddenly those same people were wondering if it could be that climate change thing.

  • Russia never stopped being capitalist. They had a communist party for a period, but actual communism was never achieved.

  • And yet emissions got worse, and capitalism is making advertisements to over consume everything. One is not isolated from the other.

Also, kinda weird to suggest that industrialised economies were not capitalistic...

  • Good. This means Greta is doing the right thing. Also, it's about time she's back in the spotlight, and not some minor footnote when talking about activism events.

  • Well, like skin, of course. :V

  • I've handled both avocados and my own penis plenty of times.

  • "The American dream" only existed for a very short period in history and was largely caused by factors not directly in control of America (i.e. Europe needing to rebuild itself after WWII), and then it was only allowed to a certain group of people with a particular level of skin pigmentation.

It would be more productive and rewarding to try and find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

  • Hah! I knew it would be somewhere in France!

  • What's the opposite of "news"? Because "news" implies things/stories/topics that are new.

Would "olds" be an acceptable term?

  • Wat?

Pretty sure my penis is made of skin, and not avocado.

  • You'd have to find a job that pays enough for this lifestyle. And with the kind of resume this produces, it's a pipe dream.

  • The fans certainly did more to keep Bionicle alive than the corporation that claims they own it.

Hell, even the original writing team cared about Bionicle more than LEGO did.

  • I would certainly be interested.

  • That depends on a number of factors, and largely comes down to price. I'm not particularly rich by any stretch of the imagination.

  • I posted the story to someone else on the comments.

  • Can't afford it (or one that would make anything in the quality I'm after) and don't have space for one.

  • There was a big ambitious project called "Masks of Power" which was going to be a full 3D action platformer. It looked truly amazing for a fan project, certainly better than anything LEGO has done for Bionicle.

The team had been working on the project for eight years. In that time they've had multiple talks with officials from LEGO, who seemed to be fine with it (especially since Bionicle has been dead for 10 years). LEGO featured the project on their official podcast, and even allowed for a Steam release, so long as it remained free and none profit.

We were going to get the first demo of that game a few months from now. But two weeks ago LEGO sent a cease and desist, and the project is dead.

There are several large, ambitious projects in the works by Bionicle fans, a number of them animation projects, one of which I'm part of as 3D artist... But now with Team Kanohi and their game project lynched, we're all feeling like there's a sword hanging over our heads.

  • It's not just limited to games...

We see it most prevalently in games because the gaming industry is massive. But this can also happen to your car... Or your fridge...

    Here's a fun story:

There were these few blind people who volunteered to have cybernetic implants that would help them (partially) see. The company went under, the patent is held by a patent troll, but the people still have those implants in their head... Which have now either shut down or are malfunctioning...
