  • The Republicans thought the same thing, to be fair. The difference is that we can be 100% confident that they’re pumped full of the most insane propaganda and are astoundingly stupid to believe that their team isn’t the most wild, overt version of everything they claim is evil.

  • The real trick, I’ve heard, is to work remotely for a U.S. company. Get all the benefits of a civilized country but they pay you the bigger salaries(if you work in a field that isn’t 100% rat-fucked yet).

  • Shopping schedule? Bro life is hard and busy, plenty of people are struggling with all kinds of issues that they can’t easily schedule around and depression is it’s own beast.

Look, I don’t order food because of the price and because I don’t want to support that fucked up business model(also because I live in a walkable city) but, and I mean this in the most “I hope you take this as an opportunity to reflect” kinda way, go fuck off with that shit.

  • We say that but it only goes so far/it needs to go very far if we want to see what they’re doing right now actually stop or, if we dare to dream, be reversed. And the more they do right now the less actual support they need, come election time. Remember that conservatives are so terrified of some made-up “leftist” that they will even admit, if they have any self-awareness at all, to voting against their own interests in order to avoid that scenario. It’ll take a lot to convince to them to simply not show up, let alone hold their representatives accountable. And even if the Democrats get any sort of power, will they actually do anything with it or continue to sit on their hands while criminals run around?

I’m still hopeful because I have to be, but we can’t just “nah” away the very real chance that the country is fucking toast for at least the next four years and that outrage will only propel them to work harder towards making sure they don’t face consequences, not to doing the right thing. It’s how it’s always happened, and it’s way more aggressive than it’s ever been.

  • Also even if his voters hate what’s happening there’s nothing they can do about it now. All the power was handed over and the damage is done, no amount of regret will change anything now that the GOP feels capable of doing literally whatever they want and have all these majorities.

The writing was on the wall but that country is largely illiterate so it didn’t much matter.

  • I’ve been very clear that I’m talking exactly about, and I’ll separate it so you can understand:

    1. You assumption that the execution would be cleaner and/or more gentle, and
    2. That I know you’re admitting you’re wrong but I’m just wholly surprised at how you even got to that wrong answer in the first place.

I’m not being tricky with my words, but the U.S. is largely nearly illiterate so maybe that’s part of it. The motive at first was just the second point wondering how you even thought it’d be vaguely ok at any point and how you missed all the signs.

  • Trumps actions have directly impacted this, though. He loudly and proudly halted efforts to get bird flu under control and his tariffs will absolutely raw-fuck the entire country in a million ways including when it comes to the prices of gas because he’s literally put a tariff on it.

This isn’t complicated, keep up or shut up.

  • I’ve come to realize that the level of stupidity of people on the U.S. is far greater than I ever could have imagined and I thought I had set that bar as far down as it would go. But no, people are still shocked and confused at how this could happen, and did very little to prepare for the man, the party, and the weirdos(Musk, et. al.) saying everything outloud for years.

It’s a country that can’t be satirized because there’s nothing you could write that would be as stupid as what they do on a daily basis.

  • Again, there were literally no signs saying that he’d be discrete, zero, and a million pointing to him being crude, overt, and aggressive in how he approached this term. The republicans have never been much to care and Trump and this entire era of that party as defined by him have made themselves so distinct because they say the quiet parts out loud. It’s the whole brand.

I do not know why you expected any different. The very small part of me that hoped it would happen differently, that thought that maybe the rest of the party would help contain him, did so because it didn’t want to fall further into the despair that is a world where the U.S. accelerates its efforts to be a fucking blight on the world.

  • I mean, he literally promises it and in the end, does it matter if he does it right away or in a few months? That worthless country handed the worst person with the craziest revenge fantasies an insane amount of power and essentially begged him to go hog wild. All he has done in the last for years is scream more and more about how much damage he wants to do, how fast he wants to do it, and how little he cares about doing it cleanly.

I’m not trying to make you feel bad but, like, maybe believe people when they literally promise to be monsters. The U.S. is full of a lot of people, including even a bunch of dipshit conservatives, feeling regret because the obvious happened and frankly I have very little sympathy. “Who could have seen this comi-“ everyone; fucking everyone saw it coming it was right there with bright lights and blaring alarm bells.

  • He never has been before, why start now? He is famously not able to be secretive and even leaks top-secret to non-allied governments just so he can brag. I really, truly, don’t understand how you expected subtly from the “dictator on day 1” guy.

  • First, you said “I completely agree with him”. If you do not understand how that might mean we think that means you agree with his rationale then writing your assignments by hand clearly didn’t help you that much.

    But anyway:

Because sometimes you need to research things for homework? Because the kids with reliable internet will still be able to use it, will use it, and will have an unfair advantage over the kids who don’t have the same level of access(usually because their parents aren’t as well off, perpetuating the cycle of poverty). Even if we decided that every single piece of homework was to be 100% handwritten that wouldn’t make the internet go away and these problems would still persist.

It’s so much more nuanced than some weak take that doesn’t do much but expose your lack of understanding of the issue. Yes, there are some clear advantages to maybe scaling things back a little but this not the way to do it, not even a little bit.

  • He is literally, outloud, complaining that the reason is because maybe kids who are unsupervised and have access to things are somehow going to have less access(??) to conservative viewpoints. The society he’s so afraid of creating is one where he cannot control children’s access to filtered, conservative-biased media, and since pretty much every conservative talking point is a lie, exaggeration, or manipulated perspective they desperately need to be in control of the flow of information. They’re literally banning paper books, bro.

Also this is about hotspot use being expanded outside of schools(“off-premises”), but if that comment is your take then maybe reading comprehension isn’t your thing. Guess those paper textbooks didn’t really do anything to help you, either.

(Literally in the first line it explains that the intention is to help kids without reliable internet get their homework done. He just hates poor people, big surprise.)

  • I don’t know where you’re from but yes, Canadian and American conservatives at the very least are positive that if you don’t have money it’s because of your deliberate choice to make stupid decisions and if you have money it’s because you earned it. Generational wealth is a foreign concept to them and they detest the idea that maybe “unskilled” service jobs should also get a living wage. When they themselves don’t have much money though it’s because of taxes or woke-ism and also they’re smart for living out in the country where things are cheaper despite those places being cultureless hell-holes far from people’s families and friends.

It’s a way to justify their hatred toward poorer people and to not have to address the fact that maybe these rich people, including their own bosses, are taking them for a ride. Those comments pop up whenever someone who actually has a spine stands up for themselves and demands fair pay, probably because they hate themselves for being boot-licking cowards unable to do the same, but sometimes also because they make money for just being lucky that they had an interest in [high-paying field] and believe that actually they’re uniquely smart.

    It’s fucking tiring.
