  • Why do you think they were worse before?

It seems like the Internet has allowed them to band together to reinforce and validate each other's stupidity. I think they're far bolder than before but I'm willing to change my mind.

  • It's always helpful when someone shows us their entire ass like this.

  • I haven't used Evernote in at least a decade, I didn't even think they were still around.

  • In case anyone is on the fence about this issue and doesn't realize this is easily disproven misinformation, there hasn't been an election for the president or legislature in Palestine since 2006.. Hamas has maintained a stranglehold on the region for seventeen years by discontinuing elections.

Even if that was true, this is a bad faith argument anyhow: it's entirely possible to focus on the atrocities being committed by both sides. Rivermonster simply seems to enjoy regurgitating Israeli propaganda.

  • Oh yeah, the one where you turn yourself inside out. it's a pain but this op ed said it was effective!

  • Of course! I love Lemmy because so many people are just so damn nice and reasonable. Thanks for being a part of that

  • It has a lot more than three sentences. A button should pop up at the bottom that prompts you to load the rest of the article.

  • I'd say when the level of discomfort from doing nothing begins to exceed the level of discomfort from doing something.

  • But why would American politicians write laws that would effectively send themselves to jail?

    But hard agree.

  • The reason one party is holding the country hostage is because the United States's political system has massive problems that are readily apparent to anyone who pays even the slightest attention to US politics, but the majority of Americans have done absolutely nothing about it. Political dysfunction has been getting measurably worse for decades and only a fraction of Americans do anything of substance. Hell, a significant portion of the population actually votes in SUPPORT of antics like this. The Republicans have been pulling stunts like this for decades now.

So yes, in an indirect way, this is also on United States citizens. The Republicans are the ones directly causing the issue, but the population can be seen as complicit as it does so little to prevent them from acting as such or by actually supporting this behavior.

  • I'm one of the mods of a few subs even though I'm no longer active. I hopped on yesterday and had a chat with the remaining mods of a couple of subs. They've been SO busy moderating assholes, propagandists, aggressive conspiracy theorists, and spam bots. They're suspending and banning accounts every day or two when it used to be an account or two every month. These are all small to medium sized, niche subs dedicated to helping people and sharing various ideas and people are trolling and harassing users like they've never seen before.

I checked out some of the subs's contents and in short order found I let myself get sucked into trying to educate an anti-masker in a sub that really shouldn't attract that type. It went how you'd expect, and it made me realize I haven't had a single interaction like that on Lemmy. It's nicer here.

  • Lol, I feel you so hard on that. As I said in another comment which I didn't realize was also to you, I think a lot of people agree with the point you're trying to make. I certainly know you and I agree on a lot of things.

  • I think it's a non sequitur because American Democrats ARE conservatives, as is noted later. With that in mind, the comment chain reads as:

Them: Conservatives have always supported genocide.

You: Then why is the other conservative group supporting genocide?

I believe a significant chunk of the site agrees with you regarding the subject matter, I'm just pointing out why I believe it's not going over well. Take it or leave it, I'm just trying to provide constructive criticism.

Edit: shit, i read your comment as "it is not a non sequitur". I'm too tired, words hard, leaving original comment for posterity.

  • Thanks for doing the digging I was about to do! I love it when people substantiate their claims and fact check unsubstantiated ones. It's just nice.

  • This is what happens when you get locked into having only two major viable political parties. This shit is going to continue unless the American political system is reformed to allow multiple viable parties, for example with ranked-choice or approval voting.

Both parties Apparently just fucking Republicans will fight against this tooth and nail.

  • While I agree with your intent, your tact here is pretty counterproductive. Making a point in such a way that it causes the Internet version of a mass eye roll suggests you're getting written off.

    What good does that do?

  • I think the issue here, hence why you're getting dragged, is Democrat ≠ progressive, therefore your comment is a bit of a non sequitur.

  • The irony of this statement (in the Greek sense) is palpable.
