The trunk/bed was full of fireworks and gasoline canisters and the whole thing went up. I haven't found anything on known motives.

What blows my mind is they're repeating the cycle of oppression.

Cishet dominant society arbitrated what was "okay" for gender/sexual preference and we all had to claw our way into some measure of acceptance. Now ostensibly LGBTQ+ members are pulling a "fuck you, got mine" and drumming up excuses to exclude the outgroup that makes them feel icky. Just like always, the focus is on the outliers: supposed pedos, very unconventional pronouns, furries, etc. It's giving me flashbacks.

It doesn't give you or others a free pass to treat them as less deserving of respect than anyone else here.

If you have an issue with someone's behavior, block and report them. Their bad behavior doesn't magically give you a free pass to do whatever you want without repercussions.

I don't know why this is like high level calculus for some people.

Anyone "pretty much defederating" wasn't an ally anyhow. Lots of "I respected the transes until they said I couldn't pick and choose which are the 'good ones' for their space". They didn't participate before so nothing will likely change.

The whole argument doesn't even make sense. Whether or not the two individuals in question are trolls has no bearing on the situation. It DID give bigots, trolls, and perpetually online rabble rousers a very flimsy excuse to start shit and start shit they did.

I feel like I have more questions now, not fewer.

Whether or not someone is an abusive troll has no bearing on the respectful use of pronouns. I have two concerns here: ensuring people are respected and not encouraging the trolls. If either or both individuals here are trolling, they're getting exactly what they want with our collective response.

In response, I made a process guide for online encounters like these. It works regardless of the other party's motives and better frustrates trolls. If you have the mental/emotional bandwidth, let me know what you think.

Step 1: Treat everyone with respect, including respecting their communication preferences. If it becomes obvious they're not being serious and/or respectful themselves (ball/sack, dog/shit), then simply disengage and report. Their bad behavior doesn't justify anyone else's bad behavior in response, especially because that's what trolls want.

Step 2: If there's only suspicion their requests/preferences are somehow a form of trolling, harassment, or the like, either...
2.1: Respectfully ask non-accusatory questions for clarification, then return to step 1
Or
2.2: Disengage, report to a mod, and let them handle this shit

Rinse and repeat.

There are two overwhelmingly likely results to this little workflow.

1. A troll is treated with kindness and respect until it's found they're trolling, after which engagement ceases and mods have to deal with their shit. Remember: trolls get off on watching other people's outrage. No response = no outrage = an unsatisfying trolling session.
2. Someone who is not trolling but is having a difficult time being understood is treated with kindness and respect.

This sounds like a headache. I can barely juggle my account, I can't imagine two or more.

I suspect the issue they're having, much as I am to a degree, is that a country is literally murdering men, women, and children so it can take their land and possessions and most of the world continues going about its business as if nothing is happening. Scaled vastly down, it's almost as if a gang was murdering a neighboring family and the family is screaming for help while the other neighbors do their best to ignore it.

I get why people aren't flocking to Palestine en masse to defend Palestinians, but especially for anyone with friends or family there, it's all bizarre. It's a huge, devastating, pressing issue that weighs on their minds all the time and most of the world doesn't seem to even care.

We also have a bit of land and a full-face respirator is the best for working with anything dusty, spraying weeds, or even just burn piles. Smoke in my face? Zero fucks given now.

If I may, I recommend the Scott AV-3000. They're a bit pricey but you can beat the hell out of them for years, can replace individual components, and they work with canisters, cartridges, SCBA, and supplied air, all of which use a bog-standard connector. If there's any question on sizing, you're probably a medium. 80+% of the adult population is medium, around 15% large, and less than 5% small. Large is barely larger, small is way smaller.

I may or may not have had a job related to respiratory protection for awhile. Science is fun!
