  • From life of experience, it’s just as you said: without lying.

You said it here, ‘I have an abusive family, I’m glad I managed to turn out ok but I don’t want them to involve you in their bullshit.’

And if you don’t want to talk about it just say it as well and leave the door open: ‘I don’t want to talk about it and ruin the day but if you want one day I’ll tell you.’

I’ve been married for almost 20 years without having met her parents, they didn’t "approve" our wedding and we just didn’t care about it. As long as you are two sane and respectful adults there’s no problems.

  • and I'm sorry for Switzerland that will be stucked in the middle of one country: your fault for that 😛

Don't worry for us, we will be happy to see a united Europe, that might even convince the old swiss-german to vote "ja" this time. We'll stay open for you guys, specially if you buy our chocolate, watches and some weapons parts.

In my vision for our future (call it science fiction), Europe as a continent is a federal block, including Russia. One big colour on the map, from Atlantic to Pacific (a friendly and peaceful colour, one that prefer having orgies and eat good food but that will wreck you if you annoy it).

  • They’re on the backlog for me.

I bought it mostly for supporting the strike and for the Godot C# books.

  • Nom de Dieu de putain de bordel de merde de saloperies de connards d’enculé de ta mère, je vomis dans sa chatte puante, t’arrache la tête et te chie dans le cou.

You see, it’s like wiping your ass with silk, I love it.

    • The Merovingian. Matrix Reloaded
  • Nope, we learned about it from an English written post (see my other comment) about a pcgaming article.

If course we immediately spammed the French lemmy because vive la grève !

  • Ah no it’s not. But I’ll never lose my job over that.

And worst case scenario, I’ll get 80% of a huge salary for 2 years and plenty of free time to start my own business (blackjack and hookers not planned but everything is negotiable).

  • The best useful source: https://www.lemmyapps.com/

You can filter the search by various settings to have just a few selected results. I personally use Voyager on phone and computer.

Fuck the employer, we riot and strike every few months, does it look like we care about employer regulations and company image? Without us the company will die and the head of state won’t allow it, so we do basically whatever we want.

Plus safety isn’t the issue here, not when Internet Explorer 6 or 7 was the only supported browser till late 2023. We are talking here about the non safety critical "admin network", the network with only the administrative computer (emails, word processors etc).

The really safety critical network is air tight from the administrative world and Internet, it runs on Linux with tons of hardware redundancy.

Windows machines are just glorified type writers and internet browsing screens, they serve no operational business.

  • We have (or had?) a bad English cursus at school, I don't know if that changed as I have not be at school in a while.

A somewhat strong culture with enough to read, listen and watch 100% French content in a lifetime, so that doesn't help. And a few remains of rebellion that does not help as well.

I believe the French dubbing industry is also known for its quality with plenty of talented voice actors. But I heard this from others, I usually consume cinema or tv in the original language.

You are right that it clearly does not help. I am always annoyed when I see a French speaker crying over Steam forums that x video game does not have a French traduction, just play it in English duh.

Anyway, we have a perfect dumb science excuse that we love: We cannot speak good English because of our native language frequency. That's it, we can't do shit about it, c'est la vie 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Achually! Historians said it has been invented in Paris in 1789 and not in Belgium.

Belgium did import those after learning to make them from rotisserie "Chez Pèlerin" in Montmartre, with the success we all know.

But it seems fries are indeed French. Not that we care about that fact, we prefer eating "des frites belges" as everyone else, they taste better than freedom fries.

  • I don't know about Chrome but that would be worth a search. Our corporate browser was still IE for a while. Now it evolved to Edge.

They are deep in the MS ecosystem...

  • I speak perfect English and voluntarily keep my French accent cause it gets me laid.

Also because I'm too lazy to introduce myself or put the fucking emphasis at the correct place, but mostly because of the first reason.

  • Meanwhile in the US they call those Western style saloon doors, French doors... (spoiler alert, they are not French).

  • Mine does the same (well, even less trusty addblocks are blocked).

But I found that copy/pasting the profiles folder of Firefox does the trick. In this folder there is an extension folder and xpi files that I can backup on the corporate cloud + usb drive to restore all my extensions.

Cause yeah, extensions are blocked but pasting into %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ is not :)

  • Same in a little bit to your west Europe.

  • Costs? Most probably. Until we have bleed less aircraft but even if the tech exists none are in the pipes, not at Airbus and Boeing tho, not until they design an all new aircraft (so in minimum one decade at Boeing and Airbus is not in a hurry because of that).

Today only the B787 is not using bleed air. Even the latest designed airliner Comac C919 use bleed, as well as the A350.

Including a sensor in the bleed duct might mitigate the issue but it's more work than a simple software upgrade, so, cost...

Maybe the next incident will force the industry. It would probably need a big enough incident involving a strong investigation board. So not the Swiss STSB (in the case I linked) as they and FOCA lack the influence, nor the FAA (in the video case) as they have proved this last decade to be incompetent as a regulator and ANSP, they have to get their shit in order first and put the money where it is needed.

Best case scenario would be an Airbus and BEA as the latter would put huge administrative and political pressure on the manufacturer whatever the costs are. Then once all Airbus are retrofitted Boeing and FAA would not have a choice but to do the same.
