  • If I would have had the opportunity to go to a physio or physical therapist, I absolutely would have.

Unfortunately, I was unable because I had no money or insurance, and the doctors able to to refer me to one simply would not.

I was not at a chiropractor because I wanted to be: I was there because no one else would help me.

I am not endorsing chiropractors: I was explaining why folks might go to one.

  • I assume they didn't want me wasting time & resources. Plus, y'know.. I was poor & uninsured.

Appreciate your kind words! I'll never be back to 100%, as I was left with a lot of nerve damage for leaving it for so long, but I can walk again without pain, which I'm so fucking thankful for!

  • Gonna be completely honest: a chiropractor saved my life.

I experienced an injury and literally couldn't walk for 3 months. Three doctors kept ignoring my pain and thought I was exaggerating. They kept treating me like a drug-seeker and I couldn't afford more visits due to be uninsured & now unable to work. They also would not refer me to a physio/physical therapist without more appointments and several expensive tests.

A chiropractor gave me an initial "adjustment" and I was finally able to hobble for a few minutes without collapsing. But I could not afford more appointments.

The pain and anguish went on for over 2 years. I was literally on the verge of killing myself by the end of it.

Finally.. my dear mother referred me to another chiropractor and offered to pay for a few appointments. I was at the point of ending it anyway, so I figured "why not?"

I went in, the guy took x-rays, and informed me that one of my vertebrae was lodged in my pelvis, pinching so many nerves, he was surprised I was even standing. He said he'd see me again to assess me, then the third appointment he would hopefully be able to help.

To keep this from being any longer, he fucking fixed it. Over 2 years of near unbearable pain, and he cured it. I could walk upright. I could reach upward. I could reach the floor. I could hug my kid again.

He then told me to come back at least 3 times per week to keep everything in shape and I was like "lol no". To be fair, I did 3 more appointments to make sure this wasn't a fluke, but after that, I researched everything with a mind clear of pain and figured out how to heal and maintain.

Am I stupid for going to a chiropractor? No. I was poor. I was desperate. Did it help? Yes. Would I recommend them to others? Fuck no. They're predatory in the way they maintain their "patients". Swear to god, I'm pretty sure he tried to fuck something up in my shoulder to get me to return later.

But don't blame all folks who go to chiropractors. Some don't have much of a choice.

  • Used to watch Homestarrunner on dial-up.

Would take about 20 to 30 minutes to load a 3-4 minute toon.

Don't miss that part of internet antiquity.

  • Back when I was young, I waited in a hot, minimally air-conditioned government building in Tennessee. For nearly 3 hours.

I finally went to the front desk and asked if I was even supposed to be there today, as my name had not been called.

The lady at the desk asked my name, and I gave her my last name, which sounds vaguely foreign. She looked surprised, leaned forward, and whispered "Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't realize you were white!" And immediately ushered me through.

I moved out of that god-foesaken town / state months later.

Love how their eyes contrast with the color of their feathers, too!

  • To be fair, I'm not at all offended by your desires! I understand that some folks have desires that are not necessarily rooted to reality. A fantasy, and that's perfectly fine. Of course no one wants PTSD.

I think my concerns lie in that disconnect, though. Someone fantasizing about a threesome, meeting a historical figure, or a positive experience is something I'd understand. A desire to experience a tragedy? It's a bit alarming. Even knowing that you're just curious about the factual experience, the disassociation from the reality of human suffering paired with the events may cause a pause.

If you're questioning yourself about your desires or people close to you have expressed concern over these thoughts, I'd say go to a professional and talk to someone. Otherwise, research into it. Explore these events, read, watch documentaries, interviews, and things like that.

The human mind is a weird thing. Not inherently bad– just weird. And it's okay to explore that and think about things sometimes.

  • As well-thought out as the answer before mine is, here's the scoop:

The Oncler in the newest adaptation was once heavily meme'd as a "Tumblr sexy-man"– an internet bad-boy that folks would write edgy fanfiction about and make thirsty art depicting them, among other things. It was era that people who had that phase look back on and cringe. It is not something that people are proud to remember about themselves.

It was clearly unintentional by OP but once they saw the resemblance, they were filled with deep regret considering the history of the Tumblr-fied-era Onceler.

So comparing OP to the Onceler is bringing up feelings of adjacent cringe, as being compared to a Tumblr-phase-animated-fanfiction-sexyboi-twink really makes your brain scream "OH PLEASE NO" if you remember "those times".

  • Oh no..

They even had art drawn of them!

    Brutal.

  • I am a sufferer of PTSD from various horrific traumas.

In short: yes. It's weird. You should talk to a professional about it.

If I could take away these debilitating, paralyzing memories and responses my body has formed due to trauma, I would. It prevents me from living a normal life and I suffer from it every day. Even have a note in my charts that lets medical professionals know that my massively elevated heart rate & blood pressure are a trauma/anxiety-response, not an underlying condition.

I guess maybe I'd view your desire as those kids on Tiktok that were mimicking/cosplaying mental illness, autism, & Tourettes syndrome, because they didn't really understand the implications of suffering that a lot of folks who have those things go through.

Again: I'd strongly suggest seeing a professional about this.

  • You'd be surprised at how many people state false "facts" about NK, as if its people are emerging Neanderthals.

Unfortunately, you often have to assume that statements like these are serious. Because many are.

    No worries!

  • Know what tipped me off that Lemmy really doesn't get nuance?

There was an article about a ride-share / taxi company that cateted to women and provided drivers who were also women, to make them feel safer getting a ride.

The comments were absolutely venomous, calling it out as "sexism" and how "what's to stop me from identifying as a woman and calling? They can't refuse me!" which.... fuckin' oof.

But I figured out why they're upset: because they want people to be treated equally instead of acknowledging that some people have different needs that may require extra services to level the playing field.

    Equality vs. Equity.
