  • Yup. The best time will always be now, because conditions will just get worse, opposition will just get more fractured, and Trump will just get bolder every time he gets away with pushing the line.

This has been the narcissist's playbook for forever.

  • Sure, I just mean, look how long BOTW has been sold - it will be a fraction of that length of time before Switches cease being sold. Mostly I was pointing to the system refresh as not only a chance to reissue BOTW, but to reset pricing expectations.

There will be a future where BOTW S2-edition is still being sold and the Switch is not. From them on, BOTW will be a $90 game, since it will be the only way to get it.

  • I mean, there were always people that would skirt the rules. But the "appearance" of respecting conflicts of interest is not an illusion, it substantively kept a huge amount of corruption from happening.

That's because these are parasites who don't like the light, and most would-be self-dealers stayed in the dark under their rocks since the possibility of being caught and ostracized, or being made the rare example of in court, was an effective deterrent.

Trump turned off the light, and it's much, much worse.

  • Yeah, he's an shameless opportunist, like every Republican on this train.

He positioned himself as a moderate for most of his career and was effectively a Never Trumper, before he kissed the ring, so we know he'll betray any principle he has to get close to power.

  • This is exactly the trick that has got us to this point, and you are giving the average news consumer way too much credit.

Yes, democrats being villains on this is novel and republicans being villains is not, but news reports bias our attention and skew reality. Viewers who are only exposed to this unconsciously end up completely turned around, saying in general democrats are the problem. This is how we end up with elections where voters stay home. And young people have internalized the disproportionate criticism of democrats, and that is probably helping give right-wing influencers credibility.

Objective and credible news should NOT just report on what's novel. They should report on proportional responsibility.
