  • You can only act yourself and try to convince others. So yes federating with threads seems to be a big step in that direction.

  • Well now you can block instances yourself. So no point in bannkng it for all...

  • That solely depends on you! There will always be a need for a decentralized open source social media network and as long as there isn't any other alternative that can achieve that the people who rely on it won't go anywhere.

  • You can hardly kill a decentralized network. Even if we fall back to field 1. People who actively chose freedom will stay.

  • That would be great. It would be similar to choosing a language for each post.

  • What if it was built into the website? Like included in the HTML or something?

  • Couldn't instances or accounts just license their content? Like would it be legally binding if I write in my profile that all the content I wrote here is licensed under a specific CC license?

  • I mean I'm all in for AI generated memes as long as they make me laugh but this shows me that we arent quite there.

  • VPN should suffice if you want to hide your traffic from your ISP. But annas archive isn't primarily a torrent site so don't mix these two things up.

  • Yes that's what I think too.

  • Or just use the api for retrieving the books info and a link to annas archive if you want to see more (or download). Officially bookwyrm would provide no direct download links only redirect to annas archive if the user wants to see more. If you combine this with OpenLibrary this would hopefully dillute the piracy concerns.

  • I'd say so but I'll check if I get home.

  • Look, downloading books for free if it's only for private consumption isn't illegal everywhere.

  • There is a mobile app although it's really simple and looks a bit dated.

  • I like Nu and I like Nushell

  • I don't see much of a difference to Goodreads. You will find most of the features you already use on bookwyr including book lists, reading goals and book info. It's up to you to decide if you want to sgare these info with everyone, just your friends or keep them for yourself. There are a lot of lists that are public too so don't worry about that.

  • Combine this with a direct, p2p donation option and you have a perfect book hub.
