  • I see. Well personally I'm like the way it goes but I understand that many people don't see it like that. Nevertheless it has a huge database we could profit from.

  • That's rather simple: P2P payments. I know people here really don't like cryptos but they fill in this gap really well.

  • It's not the platform itself that hosts the content. It's more like a huge database with links redirecting to the free content. But I still get your point.

  • I'd love an implementation where under each book you would have the option to donate a custom amount to directly support the author and/or the library.

  • Exactly. And as I already wrote: the worst part of it is that they may take valuable sources of information with them.

  • Yeah thought about it too. Maybe annas archive could develop into a book publishing platform one day?

  • Anna's Archive is way more than just a redirection to sources where you can get the books for free. In that sense the content itself is hosted on different platforms like IPFS, through torrents or on zlibrary and AA is just a discovery, curatorial platform. But Thanks for the info about OpenLibrary!

  • Bookwyrm for organizing your book library and making reading goals (just like in Goodreads).

Also, few weeks ago I switched to friendica from mastodon and it is really such a better experience. You have so many features and it's compatible with a lot of other fedi apps that it quickly became my hub for the biggest part of the fediverse.

  • You are right, text input is by far it's weakest point. You can't even make a text bold or in italics like you would normally do.

  • I switched from designer to Inkscape and for me it was perfectly fine.

  • I tried the plasma 6 alpha and although it's still a bit rough around the edges this should be a marvelous release given the time they still have to fix all the bugs.

  • Here are the things I replaced my Google/Microsoft/Meta services with:

    • Tuta(nota): Email
    • Nextcloud: Cloud
    • Typst: LaTeX/Docs alternative
    • LineageOS: Degoogled Android rom
    • Aurora Store: Google Play Store alternative
    • NewPipe, Odysee, Peertube: YouTube alternatives
    • Firefox: Chrome/Chromium alternative
    • SearXNG: Meta search engine
    • Linux/BSD: Windows alternatives
    • Bitwarden: Password manager & 2FA client
    • OpenStreetMaps (OsmAnd): Google maps replacement
    • LibreTranslate, Deepl: Google translate alternative
    • Signal, SimpleX, Briar, Matrix: chat and group organization

DO NOT FORGET TO MIGRATE ACCOUNTS BEFORE DELETING

  • Bold assumption you did here...

  • No that's not how my story continues. I didn't buy the "pessimist guide" I bought the "personal resource management" book.

  • You become the gigachad who realizes that most of school education is probably not worth the attention, you skip through classes and master things you really enjoy doing in the meantime.

  • I'm sure that AI will be used to optimize software, hardware and configurations like this somewhere in the future.

  • This is inevitable. You are fighting a fight against the natural development of a language. Maybe we really should start caring more about licenses but the terms will be used by other people nevertheless like they want.

  • Then wait for bcachefs to land in 6.7

  • And soon with ActivityPub integration? Pls?
