  • Which firefox version are you on? I'm on 122.0b1 (flatpak beta) and changing these settings just defines what happens after I download the file. Also my download folder is set to ~/Downloads

  • For me it still downloads and then opens it in firefox. In the description it clearly says: Choose how Firefox handles the files you download from the web (...). And I don't want it to download the file to my disk in the first place just store it in chache like a regular website.

  • Can't you change that in the folder settings? Changing it to a temp folder?

  • Oh wait what?! There is a WhatsApp bridge?

  • Exactly, and thats why you have to introduce them to it very gently

  • Or you could just create your own locked down, nerdy circlejerk instance for people like you.

  • Doesn't defederating just mean they can see our content but won't see theirs? At least it was like this few months before. Now if this is true we would lock ourselves out of the discussion while they could still do anything they wan't with our content.

  • God why are all crying about XMPP? If you want to make it more popular just start using it yourself. If you don't have anyone to speak with over there just speak with me (seriously DM me).

Also we have a lot of open source alternatives by now so XMPP is just one of many good options which means that the people will go whith what they feel comfortable with. Trust me, if XMPP would be the only decentralized, open source chat protocol around I'd be using it exclusively and many others would probably too.

  • So you post on social media because you want te be publicly discovered? Yes
\ Then why are you whining because your public posts were publicly discovered?

  • Well public domain or not this changes nothing for the sailors of the high seas.

  • Looks like a pretty solid release. Can't wait to test it.

  • Yeah man. And it keeps getting better!

  • I love it. I ditched LaTeX and Word entirely for it.

  • Well it is not that easy obviously. WhatsApp isn't a chat-with-friends app anymore. For me it has become a part of my work life and I hate it. That's why I said I need to take steps incrementally.

  • If you don't protect yourself they will easily find you because of the information you leave everywhere, if you go full privacy mode you will stick out like a sore thumb and they will find you too but at least they don't have much info.

  • I think so too. It worked with my parents.

  • I don't know but the mastodon documentation does not mention this: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/moderating/#block-domain

Personally I'd expect that anything I post on social media is being public and freely accessible by anyone if they want to. If you don't want the information to be used by others you probably should not share it with the world.

  • Sure I didn't mean it exclusively.

  • I'm doing my part!

  • An infinite canvas accessible by only using a keyboard? Shut up and take my money!
