  • Jesus, your reply reminds me of an old Reddit/4chan post (can't remember which, probably 4Chan) I read about on Reddit years ago about a guy who admitted to killing his wife. He posted images and described how he did it and where. I believe he ended up getting arrested the next day. There were people who were in the hometown it happened at, posting news articles and links to videos where they had seen it on the news.

  • That seems kind of shitty. Where did you end up going? I just started an IT job for a hospital in my city. Still learning the ropes for sure.

  • That seems like a reasonable and logical decision.

  • Sync has nice features that let you customize your experience pretty nicely. It feels like using Reddit which for some of us that migrated is a great experience.

On top of that, it is fully functional in a tablet mode style with larger devices and it just works really well. The layout of the app also makes it seem a little easier on the user to add instances and accounts. There is also a migrate button, scheduled theme modes, and other nifty little tucked in features. Give it a try if you like it but the Ultra subscription to help the dev. 100% worth it.

  • Does anyone know if the Sync Ultra purchase is working yet?

  • It's unfortunate for you guys who choose not to because eventually you will have to.

The even more unfortunate part will be the security risk you pose for yourself when support ends.

  • Is that the lightening?

  • The issue is brand brand loyalty. My younger siblings was looking for his Twitter app earlier and was like, "where is Twitter... Oh wait I forgot it's an X now."

  • Can anyone recommend where I could get short sci-fi horror stories? Even for audio listening like a podcast.

My love for aliens, space, etc was born from Alien, Star Wars, and even wierd movies like Splic despite it being kind of meh.

I absolutely love Arrival, The Martian, Interestellar, and even Ad Astra.

Even more so I love horror being thrown into the mix and I want more of it. My love for sci-fi grew even larger with video games like Halo and more recently Stellaris.

I loved Annihilation and Dune as books. I am almost finished with the last book of The Three Body Problem series and the last book is a tough read. The Dark Forest is easily the best of the three so far.

I saw a massive list on this thread and have book marked it for later but I love listening to sci-fi horror. Every now and again, The No Sleep Podcast will tell a Science Fiction Horror story and I just want more.

  • Is that first one all one book. If not, give me some commas please.

  • Apple and Android both need to exist. Apple isn't your friend and market privacy to take a market and when they have it they will shit on it. Google doesn't care about your privacy but are at least working on doing better and are trying to unite platforms.

Don't put your eggs in one basket.

  • Yeah, except it gets more complicated than that. Google wouldn't necessarily be promoting it either. As their algorithm looks for popular searches. Terrorism seems to be an overly used word for comparing protests to terrorism.

As an example, I live in a pretty red state. I would consider my self democrat/liberal in this state. When the George Floyd protests were happening a lot of people in my state were referring to the non-protest raids as terrorism. Despite the fact they will all defend the very clear terrorism on the capital as an attempt to save the U.S.

Point being you take the word protest and terrorism. You set it side by side as an exaggeration for literally anything half the the country disagrees with and boom you get popular terrorists searches.

I also don't think Google isn't at fault since their algorithm is designed to continue feeding that kind of content and the deeper you go the more ingrained into content you get and the more insane it gets.

  • While I agree it, does get tiring to see it in my feed 24/7. I can see this being useful for people who need a break.

  • Oh 100% a fantastic game so far. I am waiting for more abilities. I love powerful woman with a weapon of any sort.

  • Control, story based, owned it for awhile and I finally have the GPU to play it.

Next is The Wircher III as I plan on reading the books. Currently finishing The Three Body Problem series.

  • Large thinking on your part here. However, the issue is people will purchase it no matter what. Your efforts to stamp Netflix out personally are great but they are overshadowed by a company that makes millions and doesn't need your 13 to 14 dollars a month to stay subscribed.

If we want to show companies we aren't going to participate then we have to indefinitely convince the population not to participate. That isn't going to happen. These companies know that they will make money and people will keep buying.

This applies to almost any industry. Take something more environmental. I haven't eaten fish in 3 years because of how bad the fishing industry is. Mind you I am hypocrite and eat chicken and beef and those industries are just as bad but I am trying to cut back on them as well. Problem is, my one little attempt to not aid in the fishing industries endeavors are swamped by the millions that don't care, are oblivious by choice or, just would rather exist in a world where there are no problems.

The truth is the big companies should hold a responsibility but our laws (at least in the U.S.) fine them small amounts of what they make double of. Their are no laws to truly stop massive corporations because the corporations are fined rather than the people running the company and that is by design because technically the fisherman can't be held accountable in the companies wrong doings if the CEO was the one doing the wrong doings but the fisherman is aiding those wrong doings unknowingly so you punish the company not the people running it.

Then it boils down to if you can't change the company then it becomes the people's responsibility and we have one but we blame the company and or ignore our responsibility.

The truth is it's everyone's responsibility. The companies the people's. The human equation just doesn't care. People aren't going to stop watching Netflix over money the same as they won't stop giving fishing companies money to kill the ocean that gives Earth life. Because there is no immediate effect to their lives. It only matters to most when it's too late.

We could divulge into a thousand topics. This isn't meant to discourage your efforts. Don't pay Netflix save your money but getting on Lemmy and stating, "Netflix will fall." Can only happen when people give a damn just like you or when the companies give a damn. Companies have one incentive, money. People have incentive to buy a product if it works and brings some form of usefulness to their lives. No matter how you look at it or how much an end user wants to bitch about money. The truth is Netflix works so we are going to spend money to use it.

You could apply this to Google Search, Apple products, etc. There is no incentive to allow competition, care about your privacy, care about your well being, if the incentive or money takes precedence. Additionally, that means we have a problem but on the other hand. You know what works? Google Search, do you know what gives Google Search the edge? Your data and money. You know why iPhone is popular because it's easier to buy an iPhone to talk to friends and the messaging just works. You know the problem with Apple products? No incentive to switch to better platforms like RCS over SMS. Apple doesn't want to change the consumer should and we will keep buying their product.

Point being people have to truly change to change a company.

  • The real issue is your YouTube algorithm bro. What in the trash tube are you watching?

  • I mean have you played Stellaris?

If not, the Prethoryn Scourge are hands down the most terrifying thing in the game, IMO. They are Galaxy eating hive minds. Stellaris is a real time strategy game made by Paradox Interactive. You create an alien species and pick their traits, ethics, civics, etc. It is mainly centered around role play and it is a blast playing with friends and great material for short stories.

It is also greater for mocking politics, ethics, morals, perspectives, and often referred to as the Xeno hate simulator. The game is different each times, the DLC adds so much, the mods are a greater way to spice it up even more. In the game you face what is called the end game crises. There are 3 standard end game crises, technically more but they don't pan out as end game anhilators, and you have to survive the wiping of the Galaxy. This is where the Prethoryn Scourge am alient hive mind that eats all live to thrive. However, the scourge discover your Galaxy by informing you they are running away from a greater threat.

Prethoryn sounds awesome to me, there aren't too many Stellaris players on Lemmy at the moment at least that I can find community or instance wise. So I am securing the name quickly. Plus I now have the game of world eaters.
