  • Some Verizon retailers are more or less based on what they sell you. Motorola pays the most while Samsung and Apple pay the least amount. Meaning there is incentive to sell you something over something else.

  • I am an Android user but this comment should be taken very lightly. As this is not the cause the truth is that Apple is at fault here for still using SMS as the default messaging protocol. However, with that being said, SMS breaks messages on iPhone and the devices have been geared towards iPhone users in away that makes it seem like Android is the issue with image quality and texting. The marketing is excellent on Apple's end towards the competition and it is working.

However, that doesn't mean iPhone isn't the problem. I have a sibling who got bullied for having an iPhone. Apple's answer to these problems is just, "get an iPhone." This is equivalent to, "can't figure it out? Just Google it." The problem with this mentality is it gives more power to monopolizing platforms. Apple is a growing giant and if they had their way you would just have an iPhone and if Apple has expressed anything in the past 8 years it's that they aren't exactly the innovators with mobile devices anymore. To me the problem is on an iPhone nothing would change.

A little irrelevant rant but my point is that the average iPhone consumer has been given a marketing ploy so it is a deal breaker because they think it is an issue and in all fairness it is one but only Google is trying to fix. Issue is that Google should have tried to fix it years ago. You can't blame iPhone users for wanting to use other platforms to message you if your message is compressed heavily by Apple's shitty and stupid fucking decision to keep using SMS to control the market. The care about user experience is overshadowed by the desire to use that as a means to make money off of a user that doesn't understand messaging protocols. Fuck Apple.

  • I love that your response is informative to a degree relating to your experience, and you kept a leveled positive response and even tried to understand where the OP. Is coming from. As someone who used Reddit for 7 years going on 8 I saw a lot of changes on that platform and I can say I love the idea of the Fediverse and I wish I would have spent more time on Lemmy.

However, I saw a post where someone described Lemmy users as anarchist and it made me cringe and laugh a little. Since I have been on here I have seen a lot of, "the mainstream world and mainstream supporters of platforms are lost and the world is lost and we must put an end to it."

Coming from a digital forensics/security/IT background. My way of thinking has changed some over the years about my data and privacy. However, what I have found is that every platform has its issues like normal. For me it isn't so much an issue but people using the Fediverse have some form of mentality that they have a portion of the internet figured out and the anarchy and push against the mainstream is some bigger plan. The truth is, at least to me, the Fediverse actually seems like a security nightmare. Being a part of a community that understands other aspects of the internet doesn't make you invincible to the problems exemplified by other portions of the internet. The Fediverse is popular in its own way because it is small.

As you said it is disposable. You aren't an anarchist because you can put down mainstream ideas. You are also in another world of hurt if you think anarchy works at all. History it doesn't. Neither does libertarianism and libertarians are just anarchists that don't want to admit they are anarchist.

I am fairly new to the Fediverse but based on what little I have seen and know I do also understand where OP is coming from. The users of some of these. Platforms are very strong and forward thinking and in people's defense they aren't entirely wrong. But some of the people on the platforms seem to think they have a portion of the internet truly figured out and that kind of thinking makes you vulnerable.

  • I deleted my account after a week when I found out Sync for reddit was done for. I am now waiting for Sync for Lemmy. I only use reddit when it gives me a result in Google search. So far I am loving Lemmy and Mastadon. I thought about looking at Pixelfed. Even if my friends/family don't use it.

  • Do they have as great of a sense of humor as I want to believe they do?

  • I was just looking at lift off.

I was trying to look at other 3rd party apps just to see which I liked while I waited on Sync.
