Because with stuff like this you cannot simply say "everyone should know better" they don't know btr, they don't care, they don't understand. For a myriad of reasons people will always do stuff counter to best logic, so you cannot ask them to. The only practical way to prevent stuff like this is through regulation and a government that serves the people. Lol it's nice to dream.

As someone who just last week cut windows out it does feel like this can be true. I am annoyed that xorg doeskin handle multiple monitors with varied refresh rates, so you use wayland instead, but wayland doesn't play nice with remote access programs, and then you find out that nothing will allow you to use gsync/freesync unless all of your monitors can use it. Also as someone who uses Autocad daily I have to figure out a gpu passthrough VM at some point.

So i am losing the some of my "ideal" setup in my move to linux, but im still happy to lose a smidgen of things I want for the far greater advantage of not worrying about windows updates reinstalling bloatware, or harvesting data that goes above and beyond what anyone else has been doing up to this point. I'm kind of unwilling to have my OS monitoring me, and i can read the witting on the wall, it will only get worse.

Our govt is pay for play at this point, I struggle to see anything like this going through, especially so close to a new AG appointment.

That argument sounds great until you consider that a piece of paper won't contain almost the entirety of your personal information, web traffic, location history, communications. You may say you could find most of that pre computer era in someone's house, but guess what you would need to get inside and find those pieces of paper...

Oh wonderful, a new anxiety is unlocked.... Though I will say that this wouldn't happen until mid to late December, and we will have election results around Nov 6-8. This is definitely a much harder gambit with over a month of time knowing the result of the election, that is to say, it'll be much more clearly a coup than if it happened during election day. Lets just hope this is a landslide for Harris, and the chance of this being a viable option for trump being even lower.
