  • I'll share my perspectives on Indian colleagues. Not Indians raised Americans (who are more Americanized), but Indians who are from India.

Like others, I feel like this is a general sweeping comment that can be seen as racist and inaccurate. I agree. I try my best to keep it in check.

Indian women come off as entitled. They are both strong because men in India have been rude/off-putting to them, but also demanding. I recall one Indian woman tell me how she used to get catcalls and even had some pretty rape-y language thrown her way and she shrugged it off, calling those men pathetic. But then in her own words, "Would have been treated like a queen" by those toxic men.

Indian men come off incel-y. Not just the young ones, but the married ones too. My one "friend" made a pass at my 14-yo cousin. I now keep him at arms length. The married couple, the husband was a total creep to my wife. Then he defended himself saying that's normal Indian men behavior. His wife was upset, so maybe it wasn't? Either way, I didn't appreciate it.

I only know about a dozen Indian folks in my circle. And again, Indians born in America are completely different.

  • I went back and forth thinking you meant code like Building Code, or Traffic Code. But you literally mean programming code.

They work hard and get shit done, but it’s always some kind of hacky kluge made from copy-pasted code.

    Honestly, I agree.

I will argue that the only code I ever saw from India was from coding firms hired by American companies thinking they can save a few bucks. But then people like me are paid 10x more to fix it.

That code seems to lack any sort of creative thinking or big picture. It's loops within loops. It's using stuff like letters for variables, or abbreviations. It's duplicating code in 3000 line files.

At first, I thought it was just laziness or trying to get it done asap. But then I felt sad when I gave them a lot of feedback, got the changes back, then the next set of code, saw the same issues over again. Like they really don't see a problem with this.

  • Https://Rockpapershotgun.com is one of the few sites I still visit on a frequent basis. I don't care about half of their reviews. Their writing and personality is just entertaining and the commenters are fun.

As a developer, I love https://js13kgames.com/. These masters of JS make games that are under 13k, smaller than font file!

This blog has been my late night addiction. https://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/ reviews old PC RPG games like Wizardry and Eye of the Beholder. Theyve been doing it for more than a decade.

  • People on Lemmy, who kinda are on the upper echelons of technical aptitude, forget that the average user is really fucking dumb. Work a stint in level 1 IT and you will get the absolute wildest head smacking issues ever.

And companies capitalize on that by making it incredibly easy to give them money.

  • That's the problem I have when people of that slur use it. And worse, they act like it's not a big deal. There's offensive words I can use because of my skin tone that would absolutely get any non-colored person choked out.

But you nailed it. If I brush it off like it doesnt offend/isn't a disgusting word, then I am giving permission to others that it's okay to say.

  • This is not the flex they think it is. It's not that fetch quests suck, it's how they're presented.

Ubisoft sucks at it. Grab 100 feathers. Climb all 20 towers. It's mechanical in its delivery and the payoff is often stupid like a bump to your stats.

But look at Zelda. Find all 8 triforce pieces. Or Dark Souls. Get the two halves of the elevator medallion. The journey feels real. Even Skyrim's optional fetch quest - collect all the dragon masks, the delivery is amazing.

And in a role playing game, hanging out and enjoying the world has its benefits.

  • Yikes.

Police said that a little after 8:30 p.m., attendees informed officers stationed at the parade that a chemical agent — potentially mace, hair spray or something else — was released into the crowd. Police confirmed it was not released by law enforcement.

I pray that it's a nothing burger. People just having a celebration do not deserve this.

  • When the news came around about boeing airplanes having fault issues last year, I actively avoid all boeing flights. If I was forced to use Boeing, I'd research the model and ensure it wasn't on the Boeing shit list. Of the five flights I had since 2023 when the Boeing shit show happened, I changed one of them and actively shopped for flights without Boeing.

If you think I'm a paranoid for doing this, I absolutely bet you there's millions like me. People who will rather pay extra to avoid a Spirit airline experience, you will pay for convenience. Families who would rather throw some more dough to ensure their vacation isn't ruined. Companies that would throw more dollars knowing the airline ticket they got wont result into a multi million dollar insurance claim that the company has to pay for.

So yeah, Boeing has a big fucking problem right now.
