Most Americans aren't smart enough to connect the disappearance of Medicaid and stuff to anything.

They'll just see it disappear, be angry for a little while and write things like "make it make sense", "a suit without a man" or whatever the buzzwords are then.

Then the next outrage thing comes along and they'll bite, forgetting what they used to have.

Has been for quite a while, it's just that Americans have been told they're number 1 for so long and most of them don't travel so they don't see anything else.

Eh, there can be as many theories and rational thoughts as possible but the fact remains that Americans are passive, nothing will change and the people taking action know this. They just pushed full steam ahead and there's almost no resistance. The people who are already in government and stand to lose power are doing what they can to fight but the general population is just online sending crying emojis, repeating their latest buzzwords (did "a suit without a man" fade away yet?) and getting their feelings of accomplishment online.

It's bizarre to see a country like the USA be so passive. Absolutely amazing.

No, pretty easy to make friends. Closing in middle age, a bunch of variety of people in different age groups.

Don't know what advice would be real or helpful to you but whenever you feel like it's not worth it, don't pursue it. Whoever you randomly encounter that you like, keep hanging close to them. Make sure you're someone who makes things happen, don't just be invited to stuff. It takes effort at first but you shouldn't feel exhausted. If that happens (over and over, not once) you're not with your people. Make sure you have boundaries and demands, not in their faces but for yourself. Invite people to things you'd wanna do and if they don't like it that's ok, if they put you down for it, fuck 'em.

Something I randomly picked up along the way is the lifeguard motto (or whatever it's called,ni don't know...) you have to save yourself before you can save anyone else, it's an analogy, ok? Make sure YOU have fun first and then you can accurately see how other people behave and feel.
