Adding to that: Compliance is not even that hard to implement. I build almost all of my websites with GDPR compliance in mind and it's not really a big deal. There are easy to use tools like Cookie Consent and some of the sites don't even need a banner at all if they have no tracking (which you know, is completely possible too).
The real mildlyinfuriating part is that they probably got inspired by Arc, a relatively new browser. They already copied how their window splitting works.
Pretty crappy for MS not to have good designers themselves and then copy (often poorly) what one of the small players is doing.
Some people might argue it’s a different thing but for me individual YouTubers have replaced the role gaming magazines / websites took in the past. I follow a few who tend to enjoy the same games as I do. They usually do not release their videos right when the embargo is lifted but take a bit more time - which I enjoy.
That said, I could see how a fediverse focused gaming outlet might fill a niche. I don’t think anything like this exists yet and existing outlets barely have a presence here (or I didn’t notice, I haven’t exactly been looking for this).
My guess would be at least 10 years. They just switched processors, so I don't think they will do it again in the near future. Maybe for some devices they'll do it earlier.
Yeah that digitization part upsets me. Everything in Germany is done by snail mail and lots of businesses don’t accept card payments. The fastest internet I can get in the middle of the city is DSL with 100 MBit/s.
Germany is doing worse than most developing countries in this regard and few people here seem to bother.
The magsafe cables are braided and they’re nice. Maybe someone else can chime in if they actually last longer as I‘m rarey using mine, so it being prestine is not a surprise in my case.
Doesn‘t quite have the userbase at least for me. I‘m only using it for one work contact and that’s it. I also heard from others who use Element a bit more that it’s quite buggy, although I haven’t experienced that myself yet.
With the open nature of the fediverse I actually see some potential here. Right now there isn’t a single messenger that I truly like. They’re all just different shades of okay or worse.
They only sorta provide IMAP. You need to run Proton Bridge on your computer and that program will connect to their service and provide a local IMAP connection to your mail app of choice. It’s all a bit hacky but works well enough.
I just tried it. Custom UI with wonky text, doesn't support system dark mode, started up taking over my whole ultra-wide screen in a flood of white. Immediately removed this.
Java apps can be made well though but this isn't one of them.
In general phone notifications should only be people directly contacting you and stuff like reminders. No group chats (except mentions), social media, games or any crap like that.
I’m baffled how many notifications people leave on and then they don’t see important stuff or get stressed out by their phone.
For me it's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. After Breath of the Wild I was super hyped for a successor. When they announced they were gonna reuse the same exact game world I was a bit worried but thought it could work if they do it well.
Well here we are with like 90% of the content being reused. The gameplay is more interesting than Breath of the Wild and the dungeons are better and so is the story. But my main draw for Breath of the Wild was exploring the world. All this fun is missing in TOTK. The new parts of the world like the sky and underground are pretty bland and not quite as much fun to explore as an entirely new game world would be.
They already solved it. Premium was way cheaper before they started bundling it with Music which is just utter garbage. I’d pay like 5€ / month for YouTube Premium without Music IF the experience was actually good and they didn’t shove shorts in my face everywhere like that non-dismissable panel that breaks up my subscriptions now.
Yeah it used to be terrible. Now it’s somewhat usable (used it in the beta for a while). It’s still bad if you type in multiple languages though.
