  • Someone should tell the guy who put his heating on this morning that he's going to want to turn it off again.

  • Didn't they only just reform after previously being laid off?

  • We've had a housing issue in the UK since long before the 'cost of living' crisis started to affect the middle-classes.

  • They don't care. Look at the P&O scandal. The fine was costed in before they made the decision to break employment law. Heck, the select committee that was responsible for holding those assholes to account even said this was a test for the government to respond to and they did absolutely nothing.

  • When did I say people aren't playing the system? I said it's massively overestimated given the numbers of people that aren't playing the system.

And welfare spending also includes Pensions. It's also by far and away the largest portion of that pie. Maybe we could take the state pension away from people who already have a nice cushty private pension and distribute that percentage back to people who aren't in a position to retire at all?

  • We've come full circle on this one. This is pretty much exactly the same shit they said 13 years ago when we all had to 'tighten our budgets' whilst the richest people in the UK got significantly richer at our expense.

  • But in the grand scheme of things it's a relatively small percentage of people. And If they were serious about saving the tax payers money they wouldn't have written off a few billion in COVID loans a few years back.

They couldn't give two shits if some bloke is down the job center claiming a few hundred quid to sit on his arse, and tbh neither should we. There's significantly bigger fish to fry.

  • This may come as a shock.....but the 15 wasn't meant to be taken literally.

    I know right.

  • Mate I work a minimum wage warehouse job and my partner works part time in a supermarket. We rent a 2 bed terrace house that hasn't had any work done to it in 20 years and can barely afford to keep the lights on. Middle class I ain't.

  • Maybe the photos are part of a larger collection, maybe a book?

  • I mean I'll happily have a debate about the merits of UBI in a world where we're rushing towards mass unemployment, but that's aside it's a very very small segment of people on welfare who are "playing the system".

It's bullshit rhetoric designed to get people shouting down at the poorest in our society whilst the richest get away with stealing from us all.

  • We've got one of those mini-bus services in Leicestershire and it's frankly...wank.

Half the time they won't get you because the route doesn't fit in with their larger route and then even if it's already been agreed they'll cancel on you without warning leaving you utterly screwed.

  • First night in a week that my eldest has slept without coughing all night...wakes up and she's covered in a rash.

    This shit never ends 🤣

  • There's like 15 people in this country who could be looking for work and aren't. How does inflicting revenge pain on them raise any sort of money for the rest of us?

They're either lying, or utterly incompetent when it comes to understanding who's in the welfare system.

    Or both I guess.

  • I'm a bit surprised by the lack of engagement with you after appeal, that alone would signify that the person behind the account is a genuine human and not a bot.

Can't speak to .online but I know .Social is infamous for being a poorly modded instance (largely because they're inundated with members). This obviously doesn't make it okay and certainly doesn't look good on their end.

One thing I would say, and I know this isn't an issue users should be dealing with, but I'd highly recommend signing up to a smaller instance. Tighter community with (in theory) a more personal modding system in place.

  • Iirc Kbin.Social got defederated from Lemmy.World.

  • It's amazing to me how many Tory MPs are looking for an exit when it looks like they're set to lose their seat. Almost like being an MP and representing your constituents is second to earning a big bucket of cash with a job in government or as a consultant for some dodgy company looking for influence.

  • I prefer to say they 'barely clung onto a previously pretty safe seat whilst using a wedge issue as a bludgeon to beat the opposition'.

If it was a Tory mayor pushing it they'd have got absolutely fucking obliterated.

  • Is this one of those 'difficult' choices' that they go on about? The one's that almost exclusively fuck over the poorest in our society? Those choices?

We've had thirteen years of 'tough choices'. Maybe it's time we tried something other than punching the poor?

    I dunno.

  • Can't you individually block bot accounts? I remember blocking an account that was posting transcribed posts in the comments.
