  • Oh oh I've got an actual potentially brilliant solution for you! 😁

It's called an Infinity Cube. I've bought like 20 of them and given most of them away (I have 2 now lol). They're not expensive but they have made a huge difference for me in being able to listen to people, period. I also use it for all the meetings I go to and in fact now I really notice what a struggle I go through if I forget to bring one.

The one I linked is made of smooth black, rigid, silky material and has a perfect weight to it. It's also very quiet so people won't notice you're cycling it. I say cycle because that's kind of what it does in a sort of infinite loop and I think that's why it's so perfect for the brain squirrels.

The other interesting thing I've noticed about it is that people more towards the AuDHD end of the spectrum don't vibe with it at all. Letting someone I'm talking to play with it has almost become a way to stealthily test if they are my flavour of ADHD hehe

  • Thanks for the suggestions! :) While I was looking I also stumbled across Monomyth. That seems like it could scratch my Stygian Abyss itch as well.

  • Games @lemmy.world

Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss - Closest modern equivalent?

  • Rise Of Flight - United

I've always been a little obsessed with Sopwith Camels because they are one of the prettiest but also most insane things to fly into battle with. ROF does an excellent job or giving me that fix :) Also ROF is free to play (and the DLC with the Sopwith right now is super cheap).

  • Wow :) you're the only one to engage with my post and not the throwaway bit at the end when I randomly thought about dentists.

So I can easily describe to you how my behaviour became less masked using the "golden retriever" analogy. My energy has often been described by close friends as being "golden retriever" like, a bit like Dug, the dog from UP. Kinda goofy and positive and bouncy. Before I knew about ADHD I used to keep that fairly hidden except to friends. Now that I know why I behave like that I can be a lot more me, a lot more of the time. I'm a much happier person for it too.

My leading theory at the moment is that now I feel the world understands and accepts ADHD a lot more, I'm not only dropping the masks I show the world but possibly also the unconscious masking of my behaviour from myself.

I'm still trying to understand the ins and outs of it though hence the question in here. I just wish I hadn't got distracted and added the random thought about dentists. It seems to have triggered a few people. Probably dentists 🤣

The ADHD genie ain't ever going back in the lamp...

  • I feel exactly the same as you. I have ADHD so fluff is painful and pointless grind is just depressing. I thought the most obvious way to recommend my favourites would be to go by hours played, so here's my top four:

    My Time At Portia - 594hrs Hardspace Shipbreaker - 498hrs Kingdom Come Deliverance - 370hrs Just Cause 3 - 255hrs

Special mention too for Assassin's Creed Odyssey (164hrs) because that is one well made game in almost every respect. Very little fluff, grind and you're always in control of how big a challenge you feel like facing. To my mind it makes all the other AC games look clunky and drab.

Also I hate difficulty spikes so much that whenever they happen and just seem to be there so the devs can grind a few more hours of playtime out of you for their analytics, I just reach for WeMod. Big shout out to WeMod in fact :) It's made so many games I'd abandoned fun again.

  • It's all just Woody Harrelson crying gif to him though.

Any tips on loosing weight when you've got ADHD?

    ADHD @lemmy.world

Because of my extroverted ADHD behaviours I assume that every social group I join will eventually have "had enough of me". Anyone else experience this?

  • Feels like we're closing in on a time when remaking something like Toy Story, or any animation, would be as simple as writing a prompt. "Remake Toy Story but it turns out Slinky Dog is an evil mastermind who engineered Woody's fall from grace".

  • There's the obvious ones already mentioned but for me Ro Laren was always so hot 🔥 Michelle Forbes back in the day... Wow...

  • Wow that's exciting! Huge fan of Bannerlord anyway. Wishlisted and looking forward to June :)

  • Just nabbed Salt 2 and it's so good already and I've only just started! I love how colourful everything is. Also, I made the mistake of going for a wander on the first island too late in the day without realising how DARK night times get. Fumbled my way to the nearest beach and managed to spawn my little raft and just about navigate back to camp. Thanks for the recommendation. I can see this is going to claim many, many hours of my life already 🤣

  • Ooh Coral Island sounds interesting... Wishlisted! Thanks :)

  • Really appreciate the effort you put in your reply :) Thanks, lots to look at!

  • Ooh that looks really interesting. Feels a bit like a single player Sea of Thieves maybe? Also 50% off right now on Steam... nice.

  • Wow... 1987! Shows that fun isn't necessarily about high end gfx :)

  • Ooh I didn't know about the peaceful servers. Might have to revisit that soon :)

  • Games @lemmy.world

What is the best Sea based game out there in your opinion?

  • "In a world where every breath you take might just be your last"...... oh dear.

I love to applaud creative ideas but this just looks like a shopping list of cliches.

Yet another post apocalyptic setting "Do you remember the forests?" ✅ Co-op in spacesuits ✅ Same goals as in a million other games "Build, research, survive, scavenge" ✅ Giant mutant bugs ✅ Writing cringe-fest: "Up here, we don't let the past become our prison" ✅

Just doesn't look fun at all. Hard pass.

  • Thank you so much to everyone who commented with suggestions! Some really surprising ones in there too that I'm very much looking forwards to playing soon. So far thanks to this post I've grabbed Heat Signature as well as Shady Part of Me and I'm replaying Dysmantle. I've also wishlisted Creeper World 3: Arc Eternal and will nab that the minute it goes on sale.

Edit: Ooh and I'm also looking forward to the release of Outworld Station on Tuesday. That looks like a really interesting top down, space station factory automation game :)

  • Wow, that looks amazing! and 85% off on Steam... Think I'll grab that right now :)

  • I enjoy watching people play manic shooters more than playing them myself. I just get overwhelmed really quickly by them.

  • This one feels a bit more like Risk in space and I never got on with Risk, or in fact any of the Civ series of games, which this also reminds me of a bit. I sort of meant top down in the Desperadoes 3 style but I'm totally open to other ideas :)

  • Games @lemmy.world

Suggestions for a top down game that is genuinely different to all the others?
