  • They are in ancient history though. They're in the Bible that these people treasure so much, the philistines are mentioned a lot as people who live in the southern Levant who aren't Jewish. After the roman emperor hadrian expelled the jews from Judah he renamed the province Palestine, more to spite the jews then to honor the philistines, which is the name of the region and the people who live in it who are not jews to this day.

Yeah they absorbed a hegemonic imperial Arab culture in the second millennium but that doesn't mean they don't exist. That's like saying Canadians don't exist because them and the u.s. we're created by the same empire and have a very similar culture and language.

  • Your numbers don't show that it's vote by mail. Kamala lost ~ 13% compared to Biden nationwide and in your example vote by mail state Oregon she lost ~14%

California isn't in yet but doing some rough math she looks like she'll get ~9 million total compared to Biden who got over 11 million, so around an 18% drop in another very heavy vote by mail state.

  • Starting to think this might be the beginning of the incumbent disadvantage as both parties continue to put up unpopular candidates that fail to address the systemic economic issues plaguing the country.

  • Investors are, however, betting that Trump's plan to cut taxes and raise tariffs will push up inflation and reduce the pace of interest rate cuts.

Higher rates for longer mean investors will get better returns on savings and investments they hold in dollars.

So they are hoping we'll get more inflation so they can get better returns on their bonds, and trump will spin this as good for the economy . Fuck finance, fuck Trump and fuck this shit country.

  • Oh no, a strongly worded letter! Did he send it attached to the new shipment bombs?

Rhetorical opposition doesn't mean shit when your still giving them everything they want materially.

but he said he might stop sending bombs

Keyword said not did, most likely in a ploy to flip some pro-palestinian voters last minute only to pretend he never said it after the election.

  • There was a massive media campaign against it. Every other political ad on tv was against it .

Progressive policies are popular until billionaires spend millions of dollars convincing people that the world will end if we help poor people a bit.

  • This article goes over a bit of both if you trust npr more than some random socialist propagandist but The trends for both are nationwide. Police staffing has been going down since BLM became a thing and public respect and love for cops went down. This one doesn't give years but it says 5% over the last couple years. The change is bigger in larger more liberal cities. Chicago is down 13% since 2018 , san francisco which inspired this meme is down 20% since 2017 while at the same time seeing a ~30% decrease in crime over the past year.

Crime is also down all over the country, home break ins have been steadily declining since 2018 when the police staffing "problem" started. Murders have also dropped 12% over the past year along with alot of other crimes

  • You could maybe argue that if the drop was only in small petty crime. Yeah a shopkeeper may stop reporting shoplifting after the 10th time the police don't respond. That under reporting goes down as the crime gets more serious. Your probably going to report a home break in to the cops even if you know they won't do anything since you're going to need a police report for insurance, home break ins have been steadily declining since 2018 when the police staffing "problem" started. This seriousness holds very true for murders which have dropped 12% over the past year

That's assuming the victims would be under reporting, if you're saying the police departments, government etc. Are under reporting then that's getting into conspiracy territory. Especially because we're seeing this trend reported across the nation so the conspiracy would have to be massive.

Also if the government had the ability to do this why would they start now? This idea isn't too complex so someone could have easily come up with it and started doing it a while ago. If that were the case we'd never see crime rates go up as the politicians would just under report every year and make it look like crime is going down. But we have seen reported crime go up, noticeably in 2022 , and instead of hiding that many politicians and police departments showcased it as a reason to Crack down on crime and increase there budgets.

  • Police staffing has been going down since black lives matter became a thing. They dont get the same unquestioned respect and love like they used too so no one wants to be a cop any more. This one doesn't give years but it says 5% over the last couple years. The change is bigger in larger more liberal cities. Chicago is down 13% since 2018 , san francisco which inspired this meme is down 20% since 2017 and all the mayoral candidates are falling over themselves to say they'll solve it even though crime is down.

  • If you let the sauce simmer for long enough, 4-5 hours, or pressure cook it the starches of the tomatoes will break down and you won't need to add sugar. The acidity will also go down the longer it's simmered too.

  • Health care reform is popular, expanding Medicare for dental and vision has 69% Republicans support, so does capping prescription drug prices and both of those have 75% support overall. Even more "out there" ideas like Medicare for all and eliminating medical debt have 62% support overall. It would be even higher if democrats actually campaigned on it and explained the benefits better. Health care reform is popular among people, it's just not popular among the pharmaceutical and insurance companies that are giving millions to both sides.

  • Have you been to a protest or talked to pro-Palestinian voices. The demand has always been to stop weapons shipments to Israel, even before October 7th. This isn't moving the goal posts, the goal posts have been there for decades, it's just both parties have and continue to ignore them.

  • Seems a bit of an exaggeration to say everyone. The population at the time of the revolution was around 2.5 million. Of that maybe 500,000 were the land owning white male "patriots" that would support the revolution and of those maybe half read or were influenced by Thomas Payne so around 250,000. We tend to attach a lot of significance after the fact to the American revolution, and Adam's, Payne etc. Since it spawned one of the greatest empires the world has ever known but at the time it was a relatively minor tax revolt.

this isn't even a matter of the world in general was smaller back then, France at that time had a population of 28 million. Payne would go on to have less success in convincing everyone there on his ideas because the scale is just so much more massive. Same with modern day.

  • Yeah you can choose the instance your profile is on or where your browsing but you can't choose what instance a post was made on. If I see a meme on lemmy and want to share it with a friend who doesn't know about lemmy depending on how I get the link it could either be for the cached version on my instance or the "actual" link on the instance where it was posted. It seems the default behavior on the web ui for the share button is to do the cached version but depending what client you use this can be different.

It makes adoption harder if when people actually do try to spread posts the person on the other end is afraid to click it.
