  • This is the type of republican endorsement Harris should be touting. His politics may be shit but at least he's got broad popularity across the aisle , unlike Cheney and the five delusional people who still think his opinion is worth considering.

  • Also could be good to help struggling cities and provide jobs. Probably can't have some national security department in Detroit in case those damn Canadians try to invade, but maybe the USDA or something could bring a lot of well paying jobs there or any rust belt city.

Could also save the government some money because cost of living is low enough that hiring a white collar worker in Detroit is way cheaper then in the DC metro.

  • they still have cachet in some important conservative circles

What circles, people are acting like Liz Cheney was a big leader in conservatism like Romney or something but she couldn't even win a Senate race. She lost her last primary in a blowout this time around and won't even be returning to the house.

The only thing your average person knows her for is her last name and that has become associated with Iraq and war profiteering and tainted in the last decade. Yeah you may pick up a couple middle age bush Republicans in the suburbs but your alienating even more people who despise the Cheneys and everything they stand for. Tons of progressives and Arabs are already staying home this election because of Kamalas Gaza policy, bringing on the war criminals daughter would only make that worse.

  • rumored to be in contention for a seat in a potential Harris cabinet

No, fuck that. Do not let this neocon anywhere near power, we saw what happened the last time a Cheney was in the cabinet. Use her for the campaign if you think it'll help but dump her ass as soon as we win. She has nearly no political capital, she even lost her primary and is out of the house, there's no reason to court her.

  • Any exclusionary conformist society can look good on the surface if you ignore the people outside the dominant class. The 50s in America looks idyllic if you ignore black people, women who didnt want to be housewives, leftists etc. Same with barbie world, if you arent a hyper femme straight cis women you probably wouldn't have a good time there. That was sort of the message of the movie too, if you don't make your society open to different people or ways of life it will build resentment that can lead to the fall of the society

  • Revolutions by Mike Duncan. It's a history podcast with each season about a revolution, American, French, South American etc. with a huge backlog

Already listened through once but now I put it on to go to sleep, cause it's fine if I miss something now.

  • It's an enemy-of-my-enemy situation

Thats the same situation that stein is in, and the wider pro-palestinian movement are in with white supremacists like David Duke. Yes they support your movement but have completely different worldview and in most cases opposing values and motives. The right thing to do in that case is what stein, and most of the pro-palestinian movement have done and call these people out for the trash they ,denounce them, and remove them from the gathering spaces. Granted Cheney is a different case then David Duke and it's up to each group to decide where to draw the line. I personally would draw it away from a plutocratic war criminal like Cheney.

If not for moral principle then for strategic reasons, having those people around discredits you. Yeah the pro-palestinian group could gain a couple white supremacists but they lose far more support among the great majority of people who despise white supremacists. Yeah the dems could gain some of those Romney Republicans , but they're also alienating the people who hate Cheney and everything he represents. That ratio is obviously less one sided then the Nazi, anti-Nazi ratio, hopefully, but it's still a chance your taking on Cheney. I wouldn't take that since Cheneys popularity and legacy have tanked in value in the last decade.

  • If you think this reflects badly on stein ask yourself 2 questions, did he endorse her because she's also a white supremacist? Did she accept the endorsement?

The answer to the first is probably no since stein is a Jewish women so I don't think she'd get along well with all the other white supremacists who think she's sub-human. The reason he endorsed her was because she's the only one who would end the war in Gaza and fight the "Jewish lobby". If your a Zionist and believe that any action against Israel is anti-Semitic then yeah stein and Duke are the same. If you live outside that delusional world then you'd recognize dukes dislike for Israel and steins, (and most of the worlds) dislike for Israel come from two completely different values systems and world views.

The answer to the second is easier, No, her campaign rejected it and called him trash as soon as they heard about it.

So does this actually reflect badly on stein, or is this just the ravings of an insane person who's trying to elect a Jewish woman to take out his imagined grand Jewish conspiracy? Critique stein if you want but this is nothing.

  • That explains why they support her, it doesn't explain why Harris is bragging about that endorsement and campaigning with him. Especially when her main message is saving democracy and he's the guy that actually stole an election.

  • This is just a small gift to the black bourgeois who make up a small portion of the black population and need help the least.

What black people need is broad programs that help all people. Investment in inner City schools, free school lunch programs, affordable and public housing, Medicare for all etc. Black capitalism and neo liberal programs like this aren't going to help your average black person

  • First off fuck trump and his authoritarian attacks on free speech. Even if the media is being misleading we need to protect it. He needs to be kept as far away from any position of power as possible, preferably behind bars.

Also fuck CBS though, this wasn't him getting mad about them publishing a damaging story on him. It was about 60 minutes editing there interview where the actual clip shows Harris giving a completely incoherent non answer when questioned about netanyahu not listening and escalating the war, and replaced it with a slightly more coherent non answer about it. The media is supposed to speak truth to power and press candidates when they give bullshit like this on serious matters, not help them cover it up. If not for ethics then just to maintain there credibility. They don't deserve to be shut down or have there license revoked but they should be shamed and held to a higher standard.

  • Yeah, and Vietnam should've worked on rebuilding there country after the war instead of taking out polpot.

Genocidal regimes are a threat to all humanity and need to be fought against, especially when it's just a denouncement which costs nothing. It's not like they're sending billions to the area while the poor in their country go without food, like the u.s.

  • They might be only able to do those other things since they are able to pay an army to terrorize, intimidate and bribe local and state government's into allowing them to exist and set up these protection racquets. It takes a lot of money to be able to be more powerful then a government, I don't think selling avocados or logging could generate that much

  • Ismail Haniyeh , the Hamas leader who was assassinated in Iran a couple months back, was also pushing hard for a cease fire and was much more open to negotiating then the guy who replaced him who is pretty hard line.

Netanyahu doesn't want peace and will kill anyone he can to keep this war going and keep him in power and out of jail.

  • Kangaroos hop because they can store a lot of energy in there Achilles tendon and use that to propel them forward without using much energy. It's good for covering long distances over flat terrain while using as little energy as possible , which is good for the Australian outback as they hop between small patches of vegitation separated by miles of desert. It's not that good for ambushing or quickly chasing prey in a rainforest like the t rex is probably doing.

There's also the issue of scale, a t rex's Achilles tendon would have to be stronger then steel cable and as stretchy as rubber to store and re use that much kinetic force from its weight.

  • What, does NK have some bizarre projection paranoia that SK will pour over the border like NK did

I mean they did once the Americans started backing them up, hell if Truman didn't hold macarthur back he probably wouldve marched into china. The Korean war is a lot like the situation in Gaza where yes the north / Hamas did hit "first" ( although in both situations there was a background of low level war and skirmishes initiated by both sides) but the reaction to it was disproportionate and borderline genocidal, carpet bombing of the north killed far more people than the North's invasion of the south. You don't need nukes when you can destroy 85% of a countries buildings with conventional bombs. The North's fear of the south isn't just projection.

Before someone calls me a tankie, yes NK is one of, if not the most oppressive regimes on this planet right now and shouldn't have nukes and Kim should be shot for crimes against humanity. I'm just tired of the framing that SK and the US were the good guys in that war. Syngman Rhee was just as authoritarian as Kim il sung, there were no good guys.

  • Ironically the parts of California that are burning are the ones voting for trump. The fires may get to some of the outskirts of the liberal cities but they're mostly devastating the rural Sierra's and central valley that are as deep red as Alabama.
