  • Yeahhhhh this is a nazi dog whistle in a nutshell. I mean Trump is pretty much one big nazi dog whistle. My heart goes out to all the Jewish communities who have to deal with this nazi bullshit yet again.

  • Australian here. We got the same shit going down here and it's very much not organic to our culture. We're having a referendum this year for our first nations people to be recognised in our constitution. I shit you not the campaign against this is being funded directly by the same bad actors behind the culture wars bullshit in the US.

  • I agree with those people, don't do it. Not unless you have a very specific reason for doing so like wanting to be an academic (you'd have about as much success with this as trying to be a professional athlete) or a phd level industry position.

  • Smart enough to get into a phd program but dumb enough to think doing a phd was a good idea.

  • From what I've seen gender diverse people generally seem to understand the difference between someone's who's just made a mistake and someone who refuses to use the correct pronoun despite being corrected numerous times.

  • Shit has become so unhinged. This is my first referendum so I'm sure how it compares. But the rhetoric just feels so vicious. The no campaign say the voice is divisive but it's their campaign that's divisive. They're importing some of vilest culture war tactics from the US.

  • In feminist land we would call them pick me's. They've sold their souls to the conservatives in exchange for political capital.

  • What do you feel like you're unable to say?

  • I downvote comments that I feel are not constructive to the conversation. This includes things like unnecessary aggression / attacking, spreading misinformation, using offensive slurs or language, and trolling. I don't downvote based on differences of opinion - in fact I upvote people who disagree with me if they've engaged in a respectful and genuine way. I also upvote comments that I think are well written and insightful. Sometimes I upvote comments that have been downvoted and I can't see a valid reason as to why.

  • This is so strange to me. Not the polyamory, the weird hate of it. I'm in a monogamous relationship and polyamory just doesn't appeal to me. But I don't really give a shit about what other people do or who they fuck as long as it's consentual.

  • Jordan Shanks isn't for everyone and yeah I think he comes across as insensitive at times. I know some of his family members and to put it bluntly Jordan has a lot of room for improvement in his interpersonal skills.

But he's not a piece of shit. Compared to Barilaro, Jordan is an upstanding, moral citizen.

  • I'm honestly surprised by this because doesn't Finland have like one of the best public education systems in the world? I've always thought strongly funded and accessible education is like the antidote to fascism, but it seems it's much more complex than that. Fascists just always know how to push the right buttons to exploit people's fears.

  • I hope this email finds you well.

  • I mean this isn't really surprising when there's a policy structure in place that incentivises rent seeking. It's interesting how all of these people are like shocked when they realise neoliberalism isn't that great. Like what's next, realising that Marx bloke might have made a few good points about capitalism.

  • Cats are one of the most adaptive species on this planet. All of their needs can be met inside. Inside cats in Australia have a better quality of life than a lot of humans do around the world.

  • Potentially if scientists can find a way to generate the heat and pressure that's needed more efficiently. It has the potential to be more efficient (and assumedly cheaper) than any other energy source. But that's likely still a while away. We definitely need to be investing in this type of research and development rather than building nuclear fission plants though.

  • It could end up being a situation where wind and solar are needed for the transition to nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission at this point is not worth the cost it would take to set up. And by the time we set it up in Australia, the rest of the world is transitioning to fusion.
