  • Well he only ended up buying Twitter because he was forced to when he tried to back out after signing a contract. If he's stupid enough to do that he's stupid enough to ruin the platform through sheer incompetence. That being said, killing Twitter basically helps out him/his financers so I'd suspect at least some of it is on purpose.

  • Starfield sounds like an okay game but all the PR responding to complaints sounds like an absolute disaster. Stop letting Todd answer these things directly

  • Mugen just means infinity in Japanese so it gets used for a lot of things

  • I feel like I get closer and closer every day, but video games still keep me anchored down

  • If you go to settings you can add/remove tabs which includes trending. You can also add your own tab with any combination of hashtags, but pretty sure this only sorts by latest

  • There's not really much evidence that targeted ads work any better than random ads. Plus they already have a point of data to serve ads: what video the user is watching.

  • I mean, we didn't have nearly as much social media back then and a 24/7 news cycle that causes random tweets to be blown up into IGN articles. I think the initial tweet was just a random thought that got spun way out of proportion

  • The above post isn't saying that Larian or other devs shouldn't make games like BG3. It's saying that we shouldn't expect the massive amount of content and options in BG3 for every game

  • People have invested a lot into Twitter. They've built social networks there, they have brands or client bases for people who make money and it's also just where most people are. Leaving means giving up most of what they need or want Twitter for. It's a captive audience

  • That's normal, if you understood it you'd hate it even more

  • The World Ends With You (or the sequel, Neo: The World Ends With You) is an action RPG that does away with random encounters. Battles are initiated by you scanning for enemies and picking fights in your own, you can even lower your level or string multiple fights together for more rewards. The original is 2D (and best played in a DS/2DS/3DS but if you don't have one there's also a single-screen version on Switch) and the sequel is 3D on Switch and Steam.

  • Sweet and spicy is such a great combination!

  • Gotcha, still new to Fediverse stuff so not sure how all of it works.

  • I don't doubt they know things the devs of Mastodon don't, and from the ways the winds are blowing they seem like the next big bet. But their priorities with Bluesky seem like they're in the wrong place. The fact that virtually everything is public (including things like blocklists) makes me worry about the future of privacy on the platform. Though I have the same issues with Threads given that it's run by Meta with its eternal quest to doxx all their users.

  • Twitter's original founder is crazy though, that's not really an upside. And Bluesky's underlying technology just feels like a worse version of Mastodon, the only reason people are going to it is because the names behind it are recognizable and it doesn't ask you to choose a server

  • Sure some gamers/devs don't care about themes/narratives in games, but that doesn't mean all of them don't. We can see with genres like walking sims, adventure games or visual novels that story matters quite a lot to some people. Games like Mass Effect 3 have been roundly criticized by gameplay-focused fans on their failure to provide a good narrative. Plus, politics is relative, what one person thinks is politics or an agenda being pushed into a game (ie: a trans character or themes) might be extremely important to someone in that community

  • If you want something short and sweet, Monument Valley 1 + 2 are both gorgeous and fun. I also had a lot of fun with Sword and Sworcery

  • What I want to know about these "unprofitable" tech companies is where all the money is going? Wikipedia, which is run entirely on donations, has an operating budget of ~$150 million. Reddit, Twitter, etc... make many times this amount and even with the greater number of employees and salaries it still sounds like some creative Hollywood accounting that they're unprofitable. It feels like a big chunk of money is just going to investors/C-classes so they can just say they're not actually making any money while the big players get their payday.

  • It would be nice to have clients that could merge several communities for convenience, but ultimately I don't think this is that big of a problem. People will generally gravitate towards the largest community and that will take over as the default. And even on Reddit there would still be splinter communities for people who didn't like the direction of the main community, sometimes even overtaking the old subreddit
