I've been on Pxlmo and I love it there so far, except for some reason I've never been able to get video posts to work. That's probably just user error though.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I've also been using it as an image host for posting pictures here! I kinda figured that, since Pixelfed is literally designed for picture sharing, it might be better at handling all those files? Hopefully?
I dunno but... For comparison, I have a B.S. in Computational Mathematics with a minor in Physics, and I have never once actually used it for anything. My current job required a degree but not specifically that degree. It is ostensibly one of the those useful, in-demand majors, but I couldn't find many job opportunities for it that applied to me, or that I actually wanted... So honestly your path sounds MUCH MUCH better to me, personally. Plus your major sounds way cooler.
I guess if i had to make a prediction, maybe a significant chunk of the whole network will migrate over to Veilid protocol? Probably not, just throwing it out there
lol that's fair! Illinois bundleflower is a legume that produces nutritious little flax seed looking things, manoomin is kind of a grain similar to rice, rockweed is an algae, miso is a paste made of beans and cultured rice, pattypan squash is a summer squash shaped like a flying saucer.
doing that is going to create a rotary tumbler. i think for this specific object that might work totally fine, but it might be too rough for anything with fine details or sharp angles. vibratory tumblers are more likely to keep the object's overall geometry intact, whereas rotary ones will eventually sand things into kind of an ovoid shape?
as for parameters, the main ones are which grit levels for each stage, how long to run it for each stage, which tumbling medium to use, and how much water. i haven't really ironed out any general guidelines but in my experience (perhaps obviously) most plastics don't need nearly as long as most minerals.
it doesn't seem like many people have gone this route yet, so if it works out, please post about your process!
i only had a nightshift job for a relatively short period of time, so my insight is minimal. personally, it mostly felt like being exhausted all the time, bcause the rest of my life refused to make any allowances for the adjustment in my sleep schedule. like, friends still only wanted to hang out when i should have been sleeping? same with setting up appointments, going shopping, etc etc.
otherwise, i felt like if that wasn't the case, i would have been pretty happy with it. mostly because there were less people overall to interact with in my waking hours, which was nice.
where I work, we ocassionally put stuff like this in a vibratory tumbler for post processing. it's finicky to get all the parameters just right from one material to the next, but when it works it's AMAZING.
Might be a bit of a stretch, but start a paper mill company! They make a whole town smell REALLY REALLY BAD. During my childhood there was one in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and it was not a tourist destination at all. Then the paper mill closed and suddenly it WAS a tourist destination.
Also, does Lemmy have an Unethical Pro Life Tips community yet? This question would be perfect there. Also also, don't rule out criminality so quick!
oh yeah, me too! i've been thinking it was just my phone slowly going bad lol
