Oh, now I see. It was never about the pronouns, it’s just about streamlining the user experience. How could I have been so stupid, thinking that the only intent behind this mod was bigoty, when in reality it was innocent streamlining.

My next step (before driver stuff) would be to figure out where in the chain you are having issues.

(1) check if the camera is working on its own (assuming it can record to internal memory or something). No? Time to troubleshoot the camera.

(2) connect from the camera’s mini hdmi to a tv/monitor and see if you’re getting a picture. No? Time to troubleshoot the hdmi out or hdmi cable.

3. plug some other hdmi source into the capture card. Does it work? No? Problem is probably with the capture card/computer.

I started reading the series around 2002, when there were 3 books. Martin released book 4 in 2005. In the afterward of the book he said that book 6 was basically already done… book 6 didn’t come out for 6 more years (2011).

It’s been 12 years. We're waiting on book 7. Given his age, it doesn’t seem like the series will be finished by Martin. Hopefully he actually does know what happens through the rest of the story and has it down for whoever takes up the mantle.

I recommend starting with season 4. Then if you end up liking it, loop back to seasons 1-3. This is old TV where each episode is made to stand on its own.

Yeah, that’s my first assumption when a college student is coming home after midnight. Especially if something bad happens.

Edit: yep, same issue for me. When I got to safari and go to the url, It wants to download something instead of going to the comment.

Edit 2: this doesn’t appear to be a voyager specific issue. I navigated to this comment in safari while logged out of lemmy - so directly on lemmy.world. If I press the link button on a comment (next to the user name), it opens the comment as expected. BUT if I try to use the url it took me to, I get the “download” issue.

Edit 3: I tried the same thing on a lemm.ee comment and didn’t have an issue on initial testing. My assumption is that this is, indeed, a lemmy.world problem.

I hear you. I’m trying to be hopeful, but agree there is a good chance the shooter was looking for a reason to shoot.

The article is really light on details - all I see is the guy was trying to enter the wrong house and was dead on the front porch. Hopefully (for lack of a better term), the student was actively entering the house and threatening the shooter. Maybe he was shot in the doorway and collapsed on the porch, or was shot inside the house and retreated to the porch before collapsing.

And, of course, it could be a psycho who just shot at the first perception of a possible threat.

Situation sucks no matter what.

Alarmed (iOS only, unfortunately). It allows you to set nagging reminders with notifications and has great features for snoozing a reminder or setting up routine reminders.

It’s great for ADHD. I basically use it for my schedule I’ll have it remind me the morning of something (or the day before depending on the event), when the reminder comes up, I’ll snooze it to to just before I have to leave.

I had been using apples “reminders”, which just seem to disappear into the ether if you happen to miss the notification.

Lol. One recommendation: when arguing about copyright, don’t substitute physical goods for material that can be easily duplicated when making an argument. Substitute a patent? Sure. Substitute a different type of copyrighted (or copyright adjacent) material? Sure. But it’s really hard to get past the fundamental difference between stealing a physical good — in which the person you’re stealing from no longer has the item — and copying a good, in which now both people have the item.

To compare stealing a car with stealing digital goods, it would go more like: how would you feel if someone snuck over and built an exact duplicate of your car and drove it away?

Force close the app. Didn’t fix it? Restart your phone. Didn’t fix it? Delete and reinstall the app. (Warning, you’ll lose your data)

If I recall correctly, he says it is hard on his vocal chords to do the voice. Have you read something where he says he wants to keep doing the voice acting? Or might he be happy to move to an easier role?

I suspect that this a simultaneously an unpopular and opinion. From the perspective of internet culture, dunking on Arby’s and making it into a meme is popular (and therefore liking it is unpopular). On the other hand, I think the “silent majority” (including me) agree with you. So while it’s popular to say that Arby’s sucks, the more common opinion is “yeah, I’ll eat that”.

Edit: just in case this sounds like a criticism of your post, it’s not meant to be. It’s just a thought I found interesting.

I strongly agree. it would be incredibly helpful to be able to search within a community and within an instance. As is, the search is almost useless for me.

Hopefully this is something that can be implemented in voyager and doesn’t require changes to lemmy first.

Three thoughts:

1. I wonder if you would still have this take if you played a newer, high quality AAA game on a high end setup. I don’t mean to imply that your mind will definitely be blown — really don’t know — but it would be interesting to see what doing so would do to your opinion.
2. Gaming is about entertainment. There is no denying that better/bigger/smoother/more immersive tends to add to the entertainment. So devs push those boundaries both for marketing reasons and because they want to push the limits. I have a hard time seeing a world in which gaming development as a whole says “hey, we could keep pushing the limits, but it would be more environmentally friendly and cheaper for our customers if we all just stopped advancing game performance.”
3. There are SO MANY smaller studios and indie devs making amazing games that can run smoothly on 5/10/15 year old hardware. And there is a huge number of older games that are still a blast to play.

No need to be hostile, nor put words in my mouth. I gave my view and reasoning without doing so. You should try to do the same. This isn’t Reddit, and I would prefer it to stay that way.

Thanks for that. Looking again, I see now at the top that I’m looking at pull requests and not “issues”. And because I don’t really know, I just looked up what pull requests are:

Pull requests let you tell others about changes you've pushed to a branch in a repository on GitHub. Once a pull request is opened, you can discuss and review the potential changes with collaborators and add follow-up commits before your changes are merged into the base branch.

So that means that code has been written and requested to be merged into the main branch. Does that mean it’s already been tested in a non-main branch and is (hopefully) ready for prime time after some final review?
