  • I hate this about lemmy. It looks like youve been banned/deleted/something from the thread. So now all your comments and all replies have disappeared from the conversation.

I think I said this before, but in case I didn’t: I agree that the mental health side of this equation is also critical. That doesn’t change the fact that the gun control side of the equation is a major factor. Also, if you’re going to cherry pick Switzerland stats, then don’t forget to also look at their gun control laws, which are much stronger than the US (and it appears Canada, although I’m less sure there). You seem to want to cherry pick data to show that it’s all mental health and guns aren’t a significant part of the problem. Good luck with that.

  • how is gun control going to help the fact that some people out there want to kill as many lives as possible?

By reducing access to a very powerful tool for murder. Here is a comparison of USA and Canadian homicide rates

Are you pointing to a single incident from 5 years ago as evidence that non-gun mass murders are common in Canada? Do you think that when gun control is enacted, all the people that would have committed murder via gun would instead commit as much murder using improvised weapons? If so, can you show any data that bears this out?

Even though other methods of murder can be devised, restricting access to the easiest, fastest method is effective in reducing murder.

  • That was quick. Thanks!

  • Edit: I just realized your comment wasn’t directed at the IRS specifically. I’ll leave my comment up because I still find the info interesting.

I think the IRS tries to be agnostic to the legality of income. Yes, taxes are set in accordance with law, but their role isn’t make sure you obtained your income legally or ethically… not that I would trust them not to “tattle”.

Here is an overview on the IRS’s guidance for reporting illegal income:

  • If you just want the numbers:

Starting today, Netflix is raising the price of both the Basic and Premium plans in the US, UK, and France. Those members still on the Basic plan will start paying $11.99, marking a $2 increase, while the Premium tier jumps from $19.99 to $22.99. UK subs will now pay £7.99 and £17.99 for Basic and Premium, respectively, while French prices are 10.99€ and 19.99€.

The prices of Netflix's $6.99 ad-supported plan and the $15.49 Standard tier remain unchanged.

  • Sorry if it wasn’t clear; I’m not trying to criticize. I thought you would like to know these things. I didn’t see them noted in the release notes, so I assumed you weren’t aware.

  • Thank you for working on this great app! Unfortunately, it looks like 1.0 has some big wrinkles to iron out. Here is what I experienced:

I lost all my settings. I had to log back in, then try to put my settings back to how they were.

Many items in settings are non functional. Off the top of my head, most of the problems were on the link items under settings, such as all the stuff in “about”. Other settings I noticed aren’t working were Allow NSFW and Blur NSFW. These can no longer be toggled; both toggles immediately revert to off when you press them.

I can’t find a way to add a second account. If I hold down on my account icon at the bottom like I could do in 0.6.0, nothing comes up.

This was on 1.0(21). I reverted to 1.0(20) to see if things were working there. My login and settings I set in 1.0(21) stuck, but the other issues persisted. Reverting to 0.6.0(2) still functions, with my accounts still in place.

  • From the article:

At the start of the study, 20% of participants reported some level of smell or taste loss. After the third day of treatment, the proportion of participants reporting such symptoms in the ensitrelvir groups started dropping more sharply than did the proportion in the placebo group. At day seven, the percentage of participants with smell or taste loss was 39% lower in the group taking 250-milligram pills than in the placebo group. Three weeks after treatment began, all groups reported similar symptom scores. [emphasis added]

Unless I’m misreading this, they saw some notable reduction in symptoms at 1 week, but the benefit had faded away by the time they hit three weeks. This seems to imply that the drug doesn’t provide any reduction in long-term loss of smell (or at least, such a benefit was not shown in this particular trial).

  • I may have used the wrong term. When I talk about internal resolution vs upscalers, I’m trying to differentiate between what resolution the games are initially rendered at by the “console” vs post processing what comes out of the console and upscaling there. From what I understand, many PS1 emulators are able to actually render polygons in game at higher resolutions so that you get crisp 3d graphics. I think N64 emulators can do the same (but I’ve never really dug in to those).

Thinking more, since this is not an emulator, it seems unlikely that it could increase the render resolution (but we can hope). That just leaves upscalers to increase output resolution. This is what the Super NT does - which makes sense for sprite-based games/systems anyway.

  • 4K output alone doesn’t provide much (if any) benefit. The article (and I assume the company as well) says nothing more. For this to mean anything, they need to talk about the console doing something to internally render at a higher resolution or talk about what upscaling techniques it will use to go from whatever internal resolution the N64 runs at (480?) to 4K.

Putting 4K in the title seems clickbaity, considering there is “no there there”.

Edit: not accusing OP of clickbait, just the article.

  • While I haven’t dug into anti-chest specifics, I’m pretty sure they all function this way. Not that I like it either, but if you don’t want games accessing this information, you’ll probably want to avoid games with anti-cheat.

Eg Denuvo, which is widely used and recognized (recognized as shit that causes lots of issues, too), gets kernel level access, which means it can do anything it wants.

  • I usually have the same problem as you when I play rpgs (or rpg-like games), but BG3 has been different for me. Part of that is that I went into it wanting to just let the game play out. The other part is that the game does an excellent job of making results ambiguous (in a very good way, imo).

You can choose to save/kill/sneak through something and “complete” it, but it often is not obvious whether you made the optimal choice. Most approaches seem valid and you may not find out the real consequences until later in the game. Embrace it. Accept your consequences. And keep going. It really is an amazing experience.

  • The first one that comes time mind is the one I’ve watched the most times and pretty much know by heart: The Princess Bride.

That said, I wonder how much of my love for the movie is nostalgia. Maybe it would ruin it for me. But it would be interesting to find out.

  • Yeah, I feel like it would create a hell of a lot more chaos than half the world disappearing. And hijinks. And genocide.

  • I kinda like the idea of randomly distributing how much each person gets shrunk. Each person ends up anywhere from 99.9% to 0.1% of their original size. Think of the added chaos it would create.

  • I think there is an important factor you are missing here — although I fully acknowledge I may be missing something; I’m no tire expert.

Per your source, fat tires have lower roller resistance than narrow tires at the same pressure. A quick search shows that 700cc tires are usually run around 100psi. Fat tires appear to run at or below 30psi. Fat tires generally provide a cushier ride because they deform, but that deformation expands the contact patch and ups the rolling resistance. Are there super high pressure fat tires? I’m guessing no, but maybe that’s something I’m just not aware of.

  • Dude pretends he can’t understand the difference between stupid and offensive and trolling. A question can be some, all, or non of these things. His stupid questions aren’t removed because they are stupid. They are removed because they are offensive and trolling… but he knows that. He’s just trolling until he gets banned and creates a new account to continue his “work”.

  • Claim whatever motivations you want, but reading through this series of comments does a great job of showing everyone your real motivation. You are not here for rational discussion of moderation policy. Your trying to argue that bigoted materials should be allowed.

I can’t stop looking at this train wreck. But ima try.

  • If you wanted to discuss that, your first step would be to look for Nexusmods moderation policy and read it. Or if they don’t have one published to note that fact.

Then start a post discussing that moderation policy and asking how moderation should be done.

Instead you started your post by focusing on the removal of a particular bigoted mod, which of course makes it a needlessly charged discussion if you’re looking for purely rational discussion about how moderation decisions are made. Then you keep making these absurd arguments — like claiming this mod may have just been about streamlining. This looks like trolling. And it talks like trolling. You claim I’m missing the point. I don’t think I am. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck… it’s probably a maga troll that’s “just asking questions”.
