  • The opening of the article gets it wrong but is so close to realizing it.

I stopped buying most games for my Nintendo Switch the day I bought a Steam Deck.

    I did not.

My Switch has been a Mario and Zelda machine ever since.

That's why I did not. Switch has the exclusive.

It’s simple: the Steam Deck took the Switch’s best trick — pick-up-and-play portability

That's a great feature, but the best is the games.

  • That's done using science-faction.

But also I think that's their way of saying it isn't in space.

  • I fully expected this to be a week to week release but this looks fast. Exciting!

  • Official release schedule and episode titles for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man".

    But here's the trailer, https://youtu.be/N3J2JRQg040

But if you want words, Spider-Man animated TV show set in an alternate universe where Spider-Man's mentor is Norman Osborn.

  • Even with verification the Internet will be full of misinformation.

Let's look at the recent 2024 Springfield pet-eating hoax. A woman, who I can lookup the name of, posted that she heard people in her neighborhood were eating cats and dogs. That misinformation quickly spread and was shouted at a US Presidential debate.

While the woman who originally posted it apologized, no one who spread that misinformation did.

While verification might help keep some people honest, it's likely only going to keep those already honest, honest.

  • That was my first thought too.

Although it's also possible some edgy teen made a comment online from a Chicago School computer. And by comment I mean threat worth investigating.

  • In theory it is supposed to be, at the moment it is not possible. Bluesky uses the AT Protocol, vs Mastodon/Lemmy that use the ActivityPub Protocol. Unlike Mastodon/Lemmy, there are no open source AT Protocol servers, and there are no clients except for the Bluesky app, which only talks to the closed source servers. Additionally I think the AT Protocol doesn't define enough so things like Authentication require something homebrew and possibly incompatible.

Also, because of all of this, there is at the moment no concept of federation on Bluesky.

Now, that isn't to say that someday this will change, but currently Bluesky is just as centralized as every other service.

  • Because Bluesky blocks hate speech and Nazis. Sure Conservatives say they're blocking "conservative ideas" but as soon as you ask which ideas specifically they throw a tantrum.

  • Same as basically every Marvel film, except for Deadpool.

The new Daredevil shows they're willing to go TV-MA (I assume), curious what the first non-Deadpool R rated film will be.

  • This doesn't seem like your typical episode. This seems like more of an EXTRA episode, but I suppose Everyone Loves Hypnotoad.

  • That won't happen. As Twitter dies those users have to go somewhere. While Reddit isn't a direct competitor as a service, it is in terms of time/eyeballs.

Ideally folks would move to Mastodon/Lemmy/etc, but that's a different problem.

  • I wonder if Doomsday will be Doom conquering Earth/the universe. An early death will be the Sorcerer Supreme offscreen or otherwise implied. The universe will seem normal at first but slowly get a little bit weirder. Ultimately we learn the Sorcerer Supreme in this universe wasn't Doctor Strange and this wasn't "our" universe.

  • Series 1 & 2 we're absolutely fantastic. Series 3 was a significant step down and series 4 was just weird.

If they made a series 5 I'd still watch it, but I'm ok if the series stops there. Of course if they come up with an amazing idea and want to do a Christmas special or something, go for it.

  • Sure, but even if TikTok sold it wouldn't solve the problem. Hell them not selling also doesn't solve the problem.

The problem is that data is gobbled up and sold. Data/privacy protection laws to stop that would be useful.

  • So technically you're right, but the law they passed left a HUGE loophole. And by loophole I mean just don't be based on those counties and you can gobble up whatever data you like.

  • I'm no lawyer but I don't even think it's that complex.

The law as written states "...However, the prohibition does not apply to a covered application that executes a qualified divestiture as determined by the President."

It goes on the clarify in a little more detail what a " qualified divestiture" is, but ultimately the determination seems to be by the President.

Trump can "make a deal" that he considers a "qualified divestiture" and allow the app again. For example ByteDance can sell TikTok to AmericaDance, a new company that just so happens to work for and does everything ByteDance does.

Now this wouldn't hold up in any real court, but that would take A LONG time to resolve at which point Trump declares a win and likely everyone just moves on. Bonus during the 2028 election Vance or whomever can say that Democrats want to ban TikTok.

  • Why not good? Most Marvel movies are ~2 hours long, this is on the lower half but still about average.

  • If no one cares enough to reopen it once every 6 months, then it's probably fine to ignore it indefinitely.

It's a matter of psychology. If I file a bug and it is ignored for years, I'm annoyed but eventually I either accept it, find a workaround or move on to something new. I may still file bugs in the future, especially if I've got a workaround, since other people probably want to know.

However if my bug is closed and I have to reopen it every six months. Now I'm kinda pissed. I have to be reminded every six months for years that this is just broken. I put in the effort, but now some bot has just come along and closed it. Plus it's going to be harder to find an existing or similar bug. I'm less likely to look at closed bugs. But also, what if I find four similar closer bugs. Now if someone was tracking that bug they don't realize this has happened to four different users. If we had just kept it in one big we'd all know. Also someone elses workaround is better than mine, or maybe it's worse.

I understand if a project wants to declare bug bankruptcy. It shouldn't happen often but if you do that's the time to organize things.

  • I think you could do a show with Billy, Agatha, Tommy & Vision tracking down Wanda. They could solve all the puzzles, take all the right steps only to discover her missing. We, the audience, could then see that Doom got there first. Of course that would require an existing Doom being a known threat.

  • Yeah I thought Shang-Chi established that Wenwu "took care of" the knock offs. Although even if they somehow survived I assume Xialing has since cleaned them up (or taken over?).
