  • I think the leadership is fine. I think former Disney CEO Bob Chapek did a lot of damage, but he's gone now. I think this is going to be a good year for Marvel. Obviously if I'm wrong then yeah, I'm more concerned about Secret Wars. My biggest concern is if they'll have time to set up and tell the story.

  • I really would love a short series about just Foggy. Just Foggy having a good day, but annoyed that Matt is late for everything.

  • Yeah the scene stopping just to show you the bone pop, we're getting TV-MA for sure. Hopefully this show is great and does well so we can continue to explore it.

  • Actually the most widely used OS worldwide is Android. Nearly ½ of all devices are Android while only ¼ of all devices are Windows.

Now if you want to adjust the scope and only look at "desktop" operating systems then yes, that is the majority. However over the past 10 years Windows has declined by ~15%, the majority going to macOS, but a small percentage going to Linux. Linux is generally on the rise, albeit slowly.

Also keep in mind the data I've referenced above applies to ALL devices. The landscape changes dramatically when you look at console vs "PC" gaming. Console gaming is roughly ~60% of the traditional gaming market. So while a Windows user may not become a Linux user, they may disappear and become a console user, decreasing the number of Windows users.

While I fully expect Windows to be around for a while, unless a change is made it will continue to lose market share. It would be a mistake to look at these numbers and think Windows is safe and beloved. By all metrics Windows is going away. It's not going to happen overnight, but 10 years from now?

  • I agree it was expected but it's important that it happened.

I've always assumed Meta's investment in Threads's ActivityPub compatibility was purely to show the EU, "Hey look, we're trying to follow the open standard."

For that reason I've believed that giving Meta a VERY short leash was reasonable. While I believed them to be full of shit, I think extending an olive branch and allowing them to be part of the Fediverse at large was a worthwhile effort.

They have however put almost no effort into being a good part of the Fediverse. They've implemented minor features and sharing, just enough to say " technically we're working on it."

Now we can see them directly blocking. Now maybe in a few days they'll say "whoopsie", but I think this clearly shows they truly have no interest or intention of being part of the Fediverse.

I'm not surprised by this. I fully expected this. But I was willing to give them a chance. Maybe they didn't deserve that chance. I think they've certainly forfeited it now.

  • At the time (and possibly still) Dell was promoting laptops with Ubuntu preinstalled. These laptops also avoided the "Windows Tax" and were ~$50-$100 cheaper.

*The "Windows Tax" being that Windows cost money. Most companies just built the cost of Windows into their product with no (easy) method of not purchasing Windows. So if you bought a $800 laptop, you actually bought a $700 laptop plus a Window license, even if you never planned on using Windows.

  • Also worth adding, since this story was big many years ago, when the college was contacted they were fine with her laptop. They had no requirement that she use Wimdows.

  • The Pentaverate is solid. It's no Austin Powers or Wayne's World, but it's solid. It was great to see Mike Meyers back in form, even if it wasn't his best work, just really good.

My hope is that he was just out of practice and he's working on some great stuff behind the scenes. I know The Love Guru was a big miss for him and it really cut him down. He thought he'd created the next Austin Powers and it just fell flat. It wasn't the worst film, but definitely a huge step down.

Long way if saying if you're a Mike Meyers can, the Pentaverate is probably worth your time.

  • I appreciate trying something new, plus it's clear we'll have the classic suit at some point, probably the end of the season.

  • Friendly neighborhood Tom Holland.

But also I can see how that would work, you're angry but suddenly Spider-Man shows up, you probably want to meet Spider-Man more than you are angry.

  • Hold on. This is my dream. You don't have to wait here. Shrink down and get in my pocket.

  • imPastaSyndrome, I'd like to be alone with the sandwich pizza for a moment.

  • Cheese pizza and a large soda?

    Same as my PIN number.

  • In the streaming world of TV/movies everything is available "sooner". Shows that air at 9pm EST are available at 6pm PST. Shows that are available at midnight are actually available at midnight PST and not 3AM EST.

  • Excellent decision to have such a different Norman Osborn acting as a mentor to Peter.

I hope they slowly build his turn into the Green Goblin over multiple seasons and save their ultimate conflict for the series finale (many years from now).

  • I agree that Infinity Ultron was underutilized.

A whole episode could have been devoted to finding an Infinity Ultron that more closely aligned with their views.

  • I think the Eminence had watched for so long he forgot his purpose, which is to ask the question, What If...? (Or obverse the unknown.)

When the episode opens we get Uatu's backstory and even he asks the question of why do they watch. The Eminence explains that only after watching will he understand.

In many ways the Eminence had the same problem as Infinity Ultron. Infinity Ultron destroyed everything, because with everything destroyed nothing would be in conflict and nothing would change. We hear Uatu say that the Eminence has seen everything, every version of events.

Except he hadn't. He hasn't seen the world's that Uatu changed. Those changes, those conflict, bothered him. And if course by the end he ends up in Strange's Universe. A Universe he's never been in. He, like Ultron, assumes death is the only answer.

The role of the Watcher is to watch, but it's also to know when to interfere. Just because something can happen doesn't mean it will. The role of the Watcher is to ensure what can happen, does. To ponder the question, What If...?
