  • Specifically in this year? Hmm, I mean for all of the complexities and hurdles, I'm just grateful to be here.

I think while technology is a double-edged sword, the benefits it can bring are massive. I've learned so much because of the internet. I've also met many amazing people. So in that way I'm grateful.

If I could bring back one thing from past eras, I would bring back a slower, more grounded way of living and tighter communites. I think technology has advanced, but the owning class has used it to min max everything, so we haven't seen the benefits.

I think people need more time for rest and taking care of themselves and their families. Our most precious resource is time, and we lose so much of it, often for arguably not enough compensation.

  • That sounds frustrating! I've been seeing similar messages on various comment sections now. You would think there would be some kind of QA testing prior to launching this lol.

Kinda not surprising though, because youtube seems to launch experiments very haphazardly.

  • I'm not sure why but I'm able to disable them on mobile. The tricky part is guessing what the original track is. I'm on YT premium which might be why?

I think the ideal functionality would be having (ORIGINAL) next to the audio track that isn't dubbed and have that set to the default setting.

I think if they can get the dubbing correct and actually working as intended, that would be incredible for opening up cultures for everyone. I think crossing language barriers is really cool.

  • Other than the obvious money windfall, I genuinely don't know. I actually think about this a lot. I thought I would have figured everything out by now, but I feel like I haven't figured out anything 15 years later.

I think if I were older and knew everything would work out, I would want to know. Heck I wana know that now. But if it doesn't, then...idk maybe I would give myself advice to just min max my time to ensure max happiness?

  • I think that's really interesting. I often think about these moments of community/humanity. The closest I can get is if I have a nice conversation with a neighbor if I have the time. Or finding like-minded people online to chat with.

Smartphones became common place in my last year of high-school, but even at that point mobile data plans weren't large enough to cause a major impact, but community gathering spots were already gone by that point where I live, so school was the community place. Once I graduated, that was gone. Very weird time to grow up. I'm meeting a lot of people in their early 20's now who don't even have the luxury of remembering those simpler times.

It feels super odd because it seems reminiscent of old stories passed down from generations. I hope that this trend ends positively in the future and that the future youth remember these terrible years as a paragraph in a history book and how we overcame these issues.

  • Sorry I don't have a way to help. I noticed this changed recently as well and was really frustrated by it.

Believe it or not, a decade ago, EA support was actually good. I know it sounds insane but I had the BEST customer service call with someone from the Midwest US. I was trying to get into the time trials in the game Mirrors Edge. For some reason, I was getting a weird connection error.

I spoke to this customer service rep who walked me through some bizarre steps, which seemed effectively like clearing the cache of my xbox. All the while, we just shot the shit and discussed games. It was just a casual call, she was genuinely helpful and SO efficient.

At the end of it I didn't wana hang up the phone LOL. It was the best customer service call I've ever had and it kills me knowing that they axed these people at some point. It was a call that I think is rare to experience nowadays with service reps being overworked and monitored to hell and back.

  • Interesting. I feel like surely there must be a way to...make things genuinely helpful lol. I would rather have effective security than shitty security. Idk if I would want nothing though? Weird. Thanks for sharing!

  • I was going to say "but someone could post a picture with the date and their username" and then realized that can be spoofed. And then I thought what about some kind of video? Wait that could probably be spoofed too.

Maybe you could have it so only real people could get in via word of mouth? But eventually I'm sure someone with bad intentions could enter

  • I often hear how the TSA was/is security theatre. Was this ever proven with any kind of stats? Did they ever stop any big incidents from occurring?

I remember going through various American airport security in the 2000's and thought it was intimidating (i was a kid). But i figured it would at the very least deter people who might attempt some kind of crime of opportunity? Idk.

  • I've been streaming recently, and one thing that stands out to me is when you first boot up a game and it doesn't have a start menu with settings.

I noticed it before, but now I really notice it. If something is wrong with the settings, sometimes that intro is unplayable or a less than optimal experience. So you have to try and skip, fix the issue, and then restart the game and try again. This seems to be more of a PC issue than a console issue, but even on consoles sometimes you need to adjust things like brightness or add subtitles

  • Oooh, grounded felt like they didn't play test for solo players. The end game suddenly got very grindy, and I decided not to finish because of it. Loved the game otherwise. I'm hoping they will try to balance it more for the second game

  • So I had never tried duckduckgo until just now and it seems they recently added ai summaries, too, lol. Dang it. I'll try start page in a sec

Edit: start page seems good. They do have blurbs but they're from Wikipedia and don't seem to be ai related

It's time I finally get a new PC. Can someone guide me in the right direction?

Forza Horizon 5 will be coming to PS5. Likely other xbox exclusives will too.

What are the scariest games you've played?
