I am pretty grateful for everything I have. I know a lot of people have shit way, way worse than me.

But I really wish I had all the little personal things my siblings lost, stole or destroyed that time I took a job on a cruise ship and was gone for 5 months. Almost none of that shit can be replaced. They either weren't retail commercial things (IE limited edition or special made items that are no longer available) or were photos, journals, etc.

Gemini itself sucks for pretty much everything. The non-AI assistant that preceeded it did a much better job, IMO. Though, it didn't have item recognition capabilities at all out side of music. It feels like it's just a language bot being forced to do things it wasn't designed for, so you ask it what a thing is and it just spits out text that seems normal but is also completely wrong.

The general "thing" recognition is better on my Quest 3's room scanning function. But it's not meant for telling you what things are, just for making furniture in real space appear in virtual space too 🤷‍♂️

These are easier for me than normal Magic Eye pictures, because I can just use the "floating hotdog"* method of putting it right up to my face, letting my eyes get used to being focused there and then slowly moving away from it until it pops out of the page/screen.

*(to do the "floating hotdog" trick, put your index fingers end to end then put them right up in your eye line. Now slightly move your fingers apart until the floating hotdog appears)

I am smarter than my dad in a lot of things. But not programming. Or math.

At the same time, though, a huge portion of what I learned in school was wrong. I got As for being able to remember information that has since been changed, debunked, or otherwise made inaccurate due to new discoveries. So kids today probably are smarter than me, but will likely end up in the same boat at my age when everything they were taught is discovered to be wrong.

The only real constant is math. Math never changes.

The safety issue thing is bullshit. First of all, there isn't any kind of sounds that would indicate any kind of danger other than the fire alarm (which also has lights and is loud enough that even noise cancellation doesn't muffle it) where I work. Secondly, deaf people are allowed to do the job and they can't hear anything ever.

It truly is all about "looking professional." Why not make me clean toilets in a tuxedo, then?

Oh man, I know this feeling kinda? Not a water moccasin, but a rattlesnake. When I was like 19 or 20, sometimes after high school but before most of my school friends moved away, we were having a big bon fire out in the country, but it was up in the foothills on private land (we were trespassing). The site the fire was at was on the other side of 3 big ass hills and my fat ass had to stop and take a breather at the top of the first one, but nobody else stopped with me and I got left alone for bit. When I finally was ready to move on after about 5-10 minutes, I took 2 steps forward and heard the rattle of a rattlesnake somewhere ahead of me. It was already after sundown at this point, middle of a hilly field about 2 miles from the nearest road, so it was dark as fuck and the hot new phone on the market was the original Motorola RAZR (for those too young to remember: these phones didn't have flashlights and the screen light was dim as fuck).

I just slowly backed away and then tried to call for help but nobody could hear me yelling and I didn't have service to call anyone on the phone. So I basically sat there, all fucking night, too afraid to move and constabtly scanning the ground around me as best I could to make sure no snakes were gonna bite me until the party was over and everyone came back my way.

And then my car wouldn't fucking start when we finally got back to the road. One of the worst nights of my life. 😮‍💨

It's my two dogs' names combined. Loki and Kona. But I also misspelled it and the KOLA should have been a KOLO. KOloNAki.

Why does pain hurt so much there, but it doesn't also come with extra good sense of touch, like being tickled or rubbed? 😩

The only thing I've ever really wanted that didn't used to exist was an app that could identify things visually. So you find a bug or a bird or an object and snap a photo, and it tells you what it is instead of having to ask real people.

This is now possible and is getting better all the time. But I still haven't seen an all invlusive app for everything? Like there's one specifically for bugs. Another specifically for birds. Saw one that specifically was for identifying your dog's breed. Haven't seen one that is universal and can identify everything in an image at once.

Ideally, this would just be a feature of things like Google Lens. Like I could just open the camera, set it to ID mode, and just point it at the thing I am looking at and have it tell me what it is and not just find images similar to it.

Yours is pretty good, actually.

Most names I see here are just references or trying to be ultra edgy and offensive (SatansMaggotyCumFart for example). They might be memorable, but I wouldn't say they are creative.

Not many people have puns or even well done portmanteaus for usernames. 😔
