  • I was curious what lemmy.ml has to say about this but it seems the linked post was deleted in the meantime 🤡

  • Dotage just released, it's a relaxing boardgame / city builder made by a single guy over the span of 9 years. It's very addicting in that "one more turn" way, if you're into these types of resource management games.

  • I think something like what modern Deus Ex games had is a perfect balance of 1st and 3rd person camera. Most of the exploration, sneaking and shooting is first person but whenever you enter cover or shimmy along the walls, you get a 3rd person camera so you can see and aim better. It's both practical and immersive IMHO. Takedowns were kinda bad since it took you into a basically cutscene every time but if done differently, more seamlessly, i'd be a good fit for cp2077.

Also I wouldn't mind 1st person camera in vehicles at all if it was actually good, but it feels like I'm driving from the back seat, FOV was just terrible. And that's coming from someone who enjoyed doing GTAV heists in first person mode...

  • Yep, there was some in the early days but nowadays it seems to be gone to the point I think it's bugged and hiding all NSFW content regardless of your profile setting.

  • The issue is that people who do want to moderate dont have the tools for it, and/or burn out doing it like it's happening to beehaw. The fediverse software just isn't ready for stuff like this unfortunately, and it's a shame. Their focus really should have been moderation tools and safety in the past few months...

  • Nice, thanks. I've been (slowly) preparing to switch, for me its probably gonna be mint at first but if that doesnt pan out popOs sounds like a good fallback.

  • You stuck with popOS ever since? Had any issues or had to reinstall after switching or was it smooth sailing pretty much?

  • OP's thread is about american politics being everywhere, if you read a sentence beyond the title. I did not change the subject from that.

I guess we have different definitions of curation. To me that's a way of filtering out stuff so only what is of interest remains. To you apparently curating means not using the platform at all, and replacing it with a different platform that will just have the same issue again.

Also, me using lemmy as a news source is not changing the goal post, it is asking for specifics on how to implement your proposed solution. If you say that getting US-centric content is a user issue because they are lazy to curate, and then I ask you how to actually apply that in practice, that's still the same discussion.

So maybe to simplify and go back to the original subject. You say generic big communities are bad and you block them to avoid what OP is complaining about and this is a solution that all non-lazy people should do. Can you recommend some communities here that can provide similar content to the big generic (worldnews/tech/politics/entertainment) communities that don't have US centric content or bias instead? Or are you saying something else altogether and you don't have a solution for the problem and I misunderstood again?

  • It sounds to me like you are now moving the goalpost from 'don't be lazy, curate communities on lemmy' to 'block everything and go somewhere else for news'. Even if I do that, which is not what you initially said that can be done if I stop being lazy... What guarantee is there that other news outlets won't be US centric / biased?

  • If I just block all (world)news communities with american politics I'm just going to end up not getting any news at all. I care about stuff like tech news for example but some of the recent articles there are "U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Sues Tesla over Racial Abuse of Black Workers" or "The NYPD is deploying a 420-pound robocop to roam Times Square's subway station".

The implication you made was that if I stop being lazy I can curate american politics out of my feed. If your answer is to just block all news sources from my feed than that's not a solution at all.

  • The thread and OP are talking about specifically too much American politics and news, not all politics and news. How do I "stop being lazy" and specifically curate American politics out of my feed?

  • How do I curate American politics out of my communities? Genuinely wondering.

  • When I say opening / beginning I don't mean the 20 minutes of prologue, I mean the first 5 hours of game showing new mechanics and worlds to you, making the illusion that there's lot of unique fun content to do. Eventually it all started to look like same formulaic shallow crap to me and the game didn't live up to that initial impression of freedom, exploration and progression, it's half baked in everything.

  • It's definitely growing but it seems like communities are buckling under that weight and can't actually maintain the instances properly anymore, that's the issue. If even a few % of reddit decide to move and be active here instead, it will kill servers (and moderators) all over again.

  • I think they said you can't interact with trains on elevated rail at all, un/loading works only on ground level.

  • Same, I pirated it to give it a try, put in a few dozen hours to make sure I'm not missing anything but left pretty disappointed tbh. It has a strong interesting opening but the more you try to get into the nitty gritty details, the more shallow and flawed the game becomes until you're just doing chores for the sake of it. Some people find enjoyment in these chores but it ain't me, maybe in a few years it becomes better. I got phantom liberty instead and am having a blast there instead

  • Oh, so he's just talking about DLSS3 features, gotchya. I thought DLSS 1 performance improvements are also frame generation but I see now thats different

  • Wait, DLSS doesn't work on Linux at all? That's a pretty big thing to gloss over whenever someone is talking about linux gaming and how comparable it is to windows nowadays. I doubt I'd be able to get anything remotely close to a stable framerate on cyberpunk2077 without it, and same goes for other newer games like dying light 2 or starfield!

  • Really? I've seen threads with people claiming to run dozens of services on it. What do you recommend instead, just any rpi OS and installing them like I would on regular linux?
